But then again, it's so off-topic, but still you're allowed to post off-topic, so why would I not be allowed to do the same? add No off topic from me again because I respect the forum users! Dave-H Posted January 9 Posted January 9 This thread has run its course, and has just set off a lot of bickering with no good purpose. Now locked. 1
Dave-H Posted May 29 Posted May 29 I have unlocked this thread by request, as hopefully there will now be more information about this issue added to it. If it descends into personal bickering between members again or goes off-topic, it will be locked again immediately.
AstroSkipper Posted May 29 Posted May 29 (edited) Today, I have opened a new topic called "MSFN and its lack of search results in Google, Bing, and all search engines depending on them". Now, there are 4 replies but 0 views. Here is a screenshot about this well-known issue: And this means nothing has been resolved for months. The forum software is buggy or no longer maintained. And BTW, the forum editor is also very buggy, and the statistics on the main site is completely outdated and no longer current. So, a lot has to be fixed by @xper and @Tripredacus. AstroSkipper Posted May 30 Posted May 30 (edited) And today the same, 20 replies and 0 views: The "views" used to always work. @Tripredacus Or did you deliberately turn it off so it wouldn't count anymore? Anyway, what's going on here? Edited May 30 by AstroSkipper
AstroSkipper Posted May 31 Posted May 31 (edited) Ok, I’m now in a position to pinpoint the error, bug or whatever setting has been set. After two days of zero views, today there’s a number other than zero: 55 replies and 694 views: It seems to be the case that the forum software counts views of posts only periodically. Of course, this is just a theory that has yet to be proven. I hope this might be helpful. Edited May 31 by AstroSkipper 2
NotHereToPlayGames Posted May 31 Posted May 31 I'm not sure about here at MSFN because I've only observed this effect on other forums AFTER it was no longer "counting" properly here at MSFN. Other forums have a "one count" for folks not logged in and a "two count" for folks that are logged in. I've seen that on forums that "count" how many times an attached image is "viewed". Forum software of all kinds seems to have their own set of flaws (ie, a thread that is counted differently than the images posted inside that thread).

What kind of periods I can't say. The first period, after creating the thread about "MSFN and its lack of search results in Google, Bing, and all search engines depending on them", was two days, but today, it updated the views twice with a distance of some hours. Now, there are 70 replies and 973 views: 1

The over-time count is more important than a "real-time" count. I am suprised that it isn't "real-time". But what that does tell us is that all of our *FAKE* MEMBERS with a "0 count" for SIX MONTHS are indeed *** FAKE *** accounts - *axe 'em all !!! without prejudice* 1

I don't know if it is then real-time but here are new results: 70 replies and 985 views: Edited May 31 by AstroSkipper 1
AstroSkipper Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Everything I reported earlier is already old news. The error has been back in full force for almost a week now. Views are no longer being counted at all. For example: 2
xper Posted June 8 Posted June 8 You are right. I noticed it last night. I can't find where the error is. It's probably from the database upgrade. I'm working on it. 1
xper Posted Friday at 02:21 PM Posted Friday at 02:21 PM Views counter not counting caused by PHP upgrade. Waiting on patch. 2
