FantasyAcquiesce Posted August 12, 2025 Posted August 12, 2025 (edited) Hello, I've tried to install Minecraft with an unofficial launcher and multiple versions of java (21 and later) without any success. In my case, Minecraft hangs after downloading. The launcher freezes upon accessing Japanese fonts, it claims. Has anyone tried running the game on Windows 7 in 2025 with an Intel HD 4000? My OpenGL version is too old. Edited August 13, 2025 by FantasyAcquiesce
superleiw Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 Sadly it seems not all HD4000 are equal, some only support 4.0 while others support up to 4.4 To get the official Minecraft to run, it requires OPENGL 4.4, which one do you have? Also, you could try the last version of the graphics driver for HD4000 if you don't have that version already : https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18606/intel-graphics-driver-for-windows-15-33.html
Guest Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 Hello, This might also be a Java runtime problem. Try to use Azul Zulu's Java runtimes instead of the official Oracle ones: https://www.azul.com/downloads/#zulu Azul Zulu's Java runtimes support Windows 7 & JavaFX too. Otherwise try using Adoptium's Java runtimes: https://adoptopenjdk.net/releases.html https://adoptium.net/temurin/releases?version=21&mode=filter&os=windows&arch=any For Minecraft itself, try using mods: https://github.com/WindClan/oldgl/issues/1 https://github.com/KabanFriends/ForceGL20 https://modrinth.com/mod/forcegl2.0-remapped https://github.com/coredex-source/ForceGL2.0-1.2x https://github.com/coredex-source/ForceGL3.0 https://modrinth.com/mod/forcegl4.0 https://github.com/coredex-source/ForceGL_ARS You will surely need: Azul Zulu Java runtime Unofficial Minecraft launcher (not the official one!) FabricMC ForceGL4.0 mod I hope that this will help!
FantasyAcquiesce Posted November 20, 2025 Author Posted November 20, 2025 Ah, a bit late but I just used PHDGD Now drivers to fix the issue. Minecraft runs fine on my i7-3450s [I might be mispelling the model]
Bottetoundra719 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 I may be wrong, but as far as I know, Windows 7 maxes out at Minecraft 1.20.4 because it runs on Java 17, and sadly, Java support for Windows 7 dropped with Java 21. Why am I saying that? Well, because Mojang decided to require Java 21 for Minecraft 1.20.5, so technically and officially, yes, Windows 7 maxes out at 1.20.4. Perhaps there are some community workarounds that I don't know about, but I doubt Java can easily be backported. (although as you may know, you can expect anything from communities like this one ) Btw @FantasyAcquiesce perhaps you meant the i5-3450? I couldn't find the i7-3450 Anyhow, I'd like to hear what you folks think, and have a good day.
superleiw Posted Thursday at 01:21 PM Posted Thursday at 01:21 PM Indeed, people will always find ways to backport all kind of things ! Here someone backported Java 21 to run on Vista and even XP https://github.com/Win-DVD/openjdk-jdk21u-vista I haven't tested it myself but perhaps it can also be used on Windows 7.
