I'm not under XP, I use NewMoon x64 under Windows 7.

One way, or the other, good or bad job (as I'm not blaming roytam at all, but reporting), the thing is that now NewMoon freezes more, after the 20260411 build. Even if 20260418 doesn't freeze that much, it just did on this page. On 20260411 and earlier, didn't.

It is true that GitHub is very intensive, but until 20260425, and particularly about February or March builds, GitHub rendering on NewMoon has enhanced a lot, as there were some glitches with some site functions that drive you to empty pages, as for example mark threads as read/done, and now (until 20260418 because 20260425 just freezes) works better.

There shouldn't be a difference if it runs on XP or Win7. In my opinion.

I have all three browsers installed under Windows XP, New Moon 28, Serpent 52 and Mypal 78. At the moment, Serpent 52 is the only one who works without any serious problems on GitHub. Logging in, personal messages, downloading files, searching and reading contents or issues, and even commenting is working on my old single-core Pentium 4. New Moon 28 has always had issues with GitHub, and they’re getting worse and worse. GitHub’s web technology is rubbish. :thumbdown

NM28 v28.10.7a1 (32-bit) (2026-04-24) (SSE2), under Vista SP2 x86; I, too, find that the browser is hang/crash-prone on several GitHub pages, e.g. when I tried to reload a few times:

https://github.com/martok/palefill/releases

(it's one of pinned tabs in my NM28 session), it resulted reliably in a browser hang ("not responding"), that forced me to exit the browser :( ; upon a relaunch, I'm presented with a session restore window...

Since I mentioned palefill, can a frequent NM28 user who has, sort of, followed its recent development enlighten me when/why PaleFill became incompatible with NM28

ZxvMj6B.png

Its install.rdf file still reads:

    <!-- Pale Moon -->
    <em:targetApplication>
      <Description>
        <em:id>{8de7fcbb-c55c-4fbe-bfc5-fc555c87dbc4}</em:id>
        <em:minVersion>28.10.0</em:minVersion>
        <em:maxVersion>35.*</em:maxVersion>
      </Description>
    </em:targetApplication>

Disclaimer: I haven't been regularly using NM28 for a long while, but I do follow this thread :P ; for GitHub, which I use a lot, r3dfox[esr]-140 is the browser of choice here :whistle:...

unfortunately I still can't reproduce it. all changes are shared in moebius and UXP, so if it happens in NM28, it should also happen in SP55 and SP52.

but still, I can't reproduce the hang in any of them.

even on a slow single core old qemu-0.15, it is just slow but not hang.

What are those? TTBOMK, GitHub itself still doesn't offer this functionality natively (i.e. PMs/DMs between GitHub members) :dubbio:;

Please elaborate...

Regards.

I meant the personal notifications. And what the hell is TTBOMK ... :buehehe: DKKWV (Das kann keiner wirklich verstehen)

Many thanks for this :thumbup ; it worked as described; still, this is a mitigation/a workaround, whereas the underlying UXP cause that now triggers the "incompatible" message remains unknown :dubbio:...

I see no reason for one to swear :P, is there?

Happens easily here, with or without uBO-legacy enabled:

That GH releases page will successfully load once (or even twice), then when you attempt a tab reload, will hang the whole browser...

Well, guess what? I downgraded to the build mentioned by @johk, which for me is

28.10.7a1 (32-bit) (2026-04-10) (SSE2)

and my "problem" page is now rock-solid, can be reloaded ten consecutive times without hanging the browser

This build is definitely a keeper for me, too...

That's why I reported it to the Palefill issues. :P

That’s not swearing. It’s just a typical German habit to get annoyed by such abbreviations. Native English speakers use an abbreviation for every little thing, which is completely frowned upon here. :rolleyes: :P

And it works on the last week build 20260418 too @VistaLover

Well, for the sake of testing while I have it on a ramdisk, I didn't notice that palefill stopped working, so I did the fix mentioned, changing strict compatibility to false on install.rdf, and while now can be installed and, I guess, works, on the latest build, 20260425 it still hangs/freezes, so the palefill availability is not the culprit of the hangs/freezes.

Why doesn't happen to you @roytam1? No clue.

Is just visit github.com/notifications and after load, freeze (unresponsive window to any interaction, except close).

I don't have the means to debug it.

And you know what they say, that if you play with fire your end burning yourself.

Well I got a BSOD (I didn't have one since a couple of years) when testing the 20260425 build in safe mode.

I send the dmp minidump privately to you @roytam1 as I think it might have some personal information.

You don't allow PMs, OK, if you want the dmp tell me and I'll send the link though K-meleon forum PMs.

I have to go to sleep now. See you.
