Zuko One Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 (edited) Windows 8 is fast & there isn't much it can't run when updated. it's fluent & Fun. I installed it on a rubbish PC. I'm quite amazed how fast, stable & capable it runs Edited October 10, 2023 by Zuko One 5
yoltboy01 Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 When it comes down to speed Windows 8(.0) was very underrated. I also installed it on an old Netbook (Mini 1012) and it was the only OS that ran fluently. Windows 7 and 10 couldn't compare (11 obviously not) 4
Zuko One Posted October 9, 2023 Author Posted October 9, 2023 Thanks for the reply bud, glad i'm not the only one who recognises it's brilliance & yes, it's very underated. I'm gonna install it on one of my much faster systems as i'm so impressed with it. 3
Dixel Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Interesting! How do you change the white colour folder background in Windows 8 (not 8.1)? 2
sonyu Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Yes, a very underrated OS. The last amazing OS after XP. Windows 7 and 10 couldn't compare (11 obviously not) Try Ex7ForW8 (Explorer from Windows 7 ) on it and see how the OS flies. Modern OSes (10,11...) started with 8.0... well I wrote a lot about it... I don't want to say the same again, but I'm happy to see when people appreciate this nice OS and I hope we have a good KernelEx for it one day. 4
Zuko One Posted October 31, 2023 Author Posted October 31, 2023 Installed Avira fully paid for a monthly subcription & It found no threats at all. Just goes to show that the lesser it's targeted, the safer you are.
HarryTri Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 And remember that Windows 8 has no telemetry. 2
broken120x120 Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Out of curiosity, what would be some of the reasons to use Windows 8 as opposed to 8.1?

Less pagination. first metro version; so less metro components and can be disabled completely. Ex7forW8 (7 explorer runs on it). w7 based. No UI lag. Less telemetry. Last Windows version that runs smooth on OLD hardware. And it's the ONLY windows version that needs less memory/hardware than it's predecessor. Edited January 28 by sonyu

I'm currently in love with this one: Zenburn High Contrast Dark Theme https://www.deviantart.com/eluinstra/art/Zenburn-High-Contrast-Dark-Theme-for-Windows-8-552177110 you can then open chrome://flags and change these: Forced colors: Disabled (so CSS images and backgrounds are displayed) Dark theme: Enabled (in case you don't want white backgrounds) (no UX theme patch required since it's high contrast theme) or hc-midnight-v033 / win8msa https://github.com/nitschis/GreyEveTheme anyway, since you asked for AERO dark theme... https://www.vinstartheme.com/sem-theme/ https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v= e_ebJiTHl5U https://winaero.com/gray8-theme-visual-style-for-windows-8/ https://www.deviantart.com/hkk98/art/2012-theme-Windows-8-Dark-Version-286725057 https://www.deviantart.com/ezio/art/Gray8MOD-dark-Visual-Style-Windows-8-1-Upd-1-U20-346677370 https://www.deviantart.com/hkk98/art/2012-theme-7N8-Windows-Dark-Metro-29814121 Edited February 1 by sonyu 1

That development post was especially interesting. I didn't realize that so much "10-isms" were (unfortunately) implemented with Windows 8.1. I wish I had known before I installed Windows 8.1 on an old laptop! I made a similar mistake. 2
