No, for the same reason that you can't take the original Windows 7 kernel and put it into 8.0 or vice versa. Each Windows component is very tightly integrated together, even taking components from different update levels of the same OS (for example, 2020 updated Windows 7 vs 2024 updated Windows 7) can cause problems. However, VxKex should work on 8.0 if you modify the imports in the source code to match what exists in Win8
UCyborg Posted June 29 Posted June 29 Aye, those components don't have to be compatible with other components from different builds. Though Windows 8.x is unusually buggy in some places in my experience, couple of years ago when I still used it, I could use Win10's (one of then actual builds) quartz.dll on Win8.1, that fixed otherwise broken quick preview functionality of QTTabBar when it came to certain audio and video files.

lll888 Posted July 2 Posted July 2 You should at least make a backup copy of your files via a bat file. I tried your work and it doesn’t work for me, I restored the files and deleted the rest. Also, do not forget to turn off the test mode when returning through cmd bcdedit /set nointegritychecks off bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING OFF But first you need to return your files in place, otherwise you will not start the Windows and even safe mode )) The fact is that in testing mode, for example, my online game did not start. But if you turn off the test mode and turn on the signature check without returning your files to the place, then it will be problematic to start your Windows )

I have been putting some WIP betas of v5 out for donators, hoping to get a full release out soon once everything is worked out. In the mean time, here's a little teaser from those betas: @dotexe1337 hey man, I've been following your work for the past couple of weeks, because I was looking for something that would allow me to use Windows 7 again, because I miss it so dearly! Then I found you and your extender! And then, I see here that you posted this recently about opening it to beta for your donators. 2 small questions: 1) When do you think you'll release the final version 2) If it's still going to be a while, how can I become a donator? 😀 I'd love to get into the latest fixes that you've made before I go back to Windows 7. And it seems like this v5 has fixed some major headaches for you (from what I read on your blog website). Thank you so much for putting all this time into this project. Your work will be forever something that I cherish 💜💜
