Either of you tried to spoof the UA (user agent)? There are plenty of extensions for that matter.

Good idea, but I have tried it with User Agent Switcher indicating Chrome 110 and it has not worked. I think this is the best extension for User Agent

You're welcome, now switch the fake agent on and go here:

What do you see in the AppVersion string?

No extension needed, you can change the browser's default user agent string in 360Loader.ini.
Make no difference I'm afraid.

It doesn't mean the spoofing worked to the best extent, google has other ways to determine who you are, AppVersion or ClientHints, for example.

Here's the result of successful spoofing of Chrome 109 (last supported version for Win7). The Browser I'm on - Opera on Chrome 111, running on Vista.

I even spoofed the language, just in case, I'm not using the US language, I'm using the UK, of course.

I don't suggest extensions for the sake of switching the User-Agent.
As pointed out, they don't "always" work because there are other means to detect your browser.
That said, using the loader.ini to set your User-Agent does correctly also update AppVersion accordingly.

by extension , embedded is gone and so is the context menu ...
https://www.crx4chrome.com/crx/142425/

the context menu is still workig for me.

question: is it necessary to rename the crx extensions folders with the same name as seen on chrome web store ?

I ask this because I had a couple extensions installed in developer mode that disappeared from the extensions folder after a browser crash

You should not have to rename the extensions folders.

The seemingly-random extension folder naming scheme is an algebraic checksum of the extensions inner files.

The .crx is just a renamed .zip.  Change any file inside that .zip/.crx and the extension folder name will change accordingly when installed via Developer Mode.

folder name is: extension_2_4_1_0

if I don't want chrome to wipe it out I have to rename it to opnopjchpfpndkpiijgpjkfnenbpbagn

That series of random letters is the checksum on the .crx contents.

the ID on the chrome web store is bocbaocobfecmglnmeaeppambideimao

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/edge-translate/bocbaocobfecmglnmeaeppambideimao

updated on May 28th so MV2 is still alive and kicking

I can have both installed together at the same time :dubbio:

I don't quite understand your message.

so you are on chrome 111 on WinVista and you tried to spoof it down to 109 ?

how do you edit the AppVersion on arcticfoxie's browser ?

All it takes is ONE letter difference on any of the files "inside" the .crx and it will have an entirely different set of letters.

There "might" be a case where an "auto-update" from one version to the next would keep the same set of letters, have not tested because I disable auto-update.
