I have installed Xp rtm and hosted the site there. Unfortunately it still stops at this point. There was also a new windows update log created. Also, the page works better in IE6.

@maile3241 For some reason, mine stopped working and now just redirects to Windows Update v6.

I found these 2 interesting Windows Update pages that are still live today, first this http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/thanks.aspx?ln=en&&thankspage=6, and this http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/thanks.aspx?ln=en&&thankspage=7 Both seem to be old pages to preview Windows Update v5.

Windows Update v5 was closed in August 2011 just like v4?

I would suggest that we deal with v4 first, otherwise it will get very confusing again. Starting and Shut down means that I have accessed or closed the page.

I had that problem too. I deleted a certain entry in redirect.js and now I am no longer redirected.

Interesting. I think M$ did not delete v4, but set up a forwarding to v6 in the IIS.

Exactly. This file fails to download. Strangely, the error only appears 1 time for me. 

PS: A subfolder is missing in the wwwroot directory that contains the file iudent.cab , which can be accessed by the website. This file is currently missing. Maybe that is the problem why it hangs there. A similar message appears in v6. As soon as it appears, a file called wuident.cab is also downloaded.

We need to use the wuident.cab file in Windows Update V6 for the v4.

I tried something in Windows Update but it wasn't working. Windows Update v6 uses thé Windows 7 SP1 cab file

Same like v5, MS was not delete v5, but set up forwarding to v6

I do think they deleted Windows Update v4 though because as of Late April 2021, all pages on the v4 subdomain redirect to fe2.update.microsoft.com and going to http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp gives 404, it used to be just a redirect though.

That is correct. But if you only enter http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com, then you are redirected to v6.

PS: I would like to try something. Does anyone have the shared folder from v6? Wayback machine downloader does not download it.
