[Research] Windows 7 and eMMC drives

@Ratte Your mentioned drivers cannot be ported with Extender, as I already told you in PM, there are too much missing imports in newer drivers than 8056. I have already tried adding all PoFx.. functions as blank stubs. This wont work. Until you decompile and rewrite these functions. They have a lot of callbacks and probably not possible to rebuild them without some code leak.

They are predicting that after windows 10 end support in October 2025 lots of computers will become just that; e-waste.

Which is very good for the Western economy.

Wished there was a way to natively run windows 7, I love using win7, now i use win8 but this constant metro ui switch makes me go nuts.

Just use Open-Shell:

https://open-shell.github.io/Open-Shell-Menu/

It works with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and 11.  I use it on my Windows 10 desktop and my Windows 8.1 notebook.  I also use UBitMenu with Microsoft Office 2010:

Yeah I know I use it but it doesn't feel the same. I used win 8 to 7 transformation pack but it f**ks up after applying a update. Modern lightweight Linux distros don't even work efficiently in this laptop. I currently use windows 8 pro, its very good in terms of performance but I hate the design. I tried using Windows 7 using WinToUSB but it's IO performance is really bad. There is no SATA interface on my laptop, everything is soldered. I ordered USB SATA adapter and I will try to solder that USB and put small SSD inside.

I also tried windows 8 developer build 8102 (EEAP). I could get it working with eMMC and install graphics driver after disabling DWM but I couldn't get Wi-Fi to work, only ethernet works. I tried many Windows 7 ISOs including OEM, POSReady, Thin Client and so on and nothing works as expected. I followed a guide that shows eMMC installation on a industrial device that has same configuration as mine, I applied the same processes and it didn't work (I applied KB2732471 and Intel IO drivers also tried backported drivers).

I love the form factor of my laptop and obsessed with Frutiger Aero design and hate this current flat design of 8.x / 10 / 11 , I will try my best to get it working. (Unfortunately, I couldn't find any other 11 inch (that has non soldered ssd) good laptops in my country)

Not sure if this is useful as it would need to be backported but Microsoft had released a eMMC Hotfix for W8.1

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/emmc-device-is-not-detected-as-a-storage-device-by-windows-8-1-or-windows-server-2012-r2-ee95ef54-081c-135c-f38e-142cc4dbbf14

The hotfix can be downloaded from here :

https://thehotfixshare.net/board/index.php?/files/file/20825-windows81-kb3078919-x86msu/ (32bit)

Contains dumpsd.sys and sdbus.sys and sdbus.inf fileversion 6.3.9600.17931 from July 2015

That's weird... I thought 8.0 (6.2) supported eMMC's out of box?

It might also depend on the version of the eMMC card. Comparison Link HERE

The way I understood it is that this hotfix may only be useful for eMMC cards version 4.41 (and higher?).

Older cards would not require it. But then again this could be a 8.1 problem only...

Edit : I just verified and Windows 8 received updates to dumpsd.sys and sdbus.sys through Security/Cumulative Updates all the way until 2019 !!

For some reason Windows 8.1 never received any updates to those files beyond 2015. So I guess this hotfix is indeed only needed for 8.1 then.

W8 might have had this problem as well back then, but it probably has long since been fixed through regular Windows Updates !

I do wonder now if it's possible to go the other way around -> using those updated W8 files on W8.1 for better support for the latest eMMC versions.
