Can you translate what Verizon told you there, into a European language? :)

Two questions:

  1. Will you have to contact Verizon?
  2. Is there anything I can do at my end to help with the process?

--JorgeA

Are you a Customer of Verizon (yes/no).

If Yes, go here:

http://my.verizon.com/micro/whitelist/

http://my.verizon.com/micro/whitelist/RequestForm.aspx?id=member

and tell them that you are not receiving e-mails...

Thanks jaclaz, I may try that. (I am a Verizon customer.) What's confusing is that @xper reports that Verizon said

The email sender or Email Service Provider may visit http://www.verizon.net/whitelist and request removal of the block.

In the current case I'm neither the sender of the e-mail nor the provider of the e-mail service, so it didn't sound like my input would be welcomed by Verizon.

I already have my Verizon spam filter turned off completely (and relying on the Outlook and Symantec filters) because it was stopping wanted e-mail, but I'll be happy to try contacting them if it might help.

Hi,

First, thanks for the forum.

I have been active only in the Windows 8 section. Since I did not know about this thread, and also since the problems I'm having are specific to Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8, I posted some problem reports over there.

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171031-problems-with-this-forum-using-ie11/

You likely already know about these things, but for the convenience of those here, I'll repeat what I posted at the above link:

I've never managed to get a very good experience from this forum ever since moving to Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer version 11. I can read posts here just fine, but it's just difficult to edit...

Problems:

  • The first problem is basic, really - I can't paste anything. It's surprising how much I rely on cut/copy/paste. You really notice when you can't do it. Not being able to do so really hobbles the user experience on a technical forum. Pasting in things like registry data, script code, etc. or even moving blocks of text from one place to another while composing a message are painful.

  • Another problem is that the quoting facility doesn't work. When I press the
    button, there's just an empty edit box. If I use the balloon icon, just an empty "Quote" box appears.

    Thanks for your attention.

    -Noel

I did some changes. Please clear your browser cache and try again.

Hate to be a pain reporting so many things, but now I'm getting embedded ad links in thread posts. This wasn't happening earlier this week.

I think my MSFN subscription is current. At least, I'm still listed over in the left panel as a Forum Sponsor rather than a Member.

See the attachment for examples:

post-287775-0-29998500-1398614886_thumb.

--JorgeA

P.S. When I simply went to Preview this post, even before submitting it, the word "subscription" above showed up in blue with a double underline linking to Azure.

Huh -- the second time I Previewed this post, the ad link was gone. And the third time, it was back. :wacko:

Is there a difficult part in:

http://my.verizon.com/micro/whitelist/

If your organization is having difficulty delivering e-mail to Verizon Online addresses, or if you are a subscriber to one of Verizon Online's Internet access services who is unable to receive certain e-mails, please fill out the appropriate form below and submit it to Verizon Online Security. We will investigate the issue and attempt to find a solution that allows you to send or receive e-mail from a restricted source.*

Thanks for the excerpt. I had no reason to question what xper reported.

@xper: thank you for looking into all of these weird issues.

--JorgeA

Update: FWIW, the embedded ad links didn't show up this time. :thumbup

(Although this topic; http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171672-im-no-longer-receiving-notifications-for-anything/ suggests that the

notification problem has recently been resolved, if you find that it is still not working...)

after you have got a reply back from that Verizon internet form that jaclaz

mentioned, then perhaps try posting in the Verizon forum, like seen here;
http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Verizon-net-Email/571-Server-IP-is-blocked-HELP/td-p/638369 to try and get Verizon to whitelist the MSFN

notification email adress you see in copies of previous notifications you have received

i.e. the address that begins nobody@ ...etc., and the MSFN IP address; 74.86.39.114 .

========
@Xper
www.MSFN.ORG and/or its IP address appear to have a current blacklisting, according to;
http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=blacklist%3a74.86.39.114&run=toolpage#

The SORBS listing is probably the most likely culprit. SORBS has apparently kept an active

listing for the IP address of 74.86.39.114 .
http://www.sorbs.net/lookup.shtml
The SORBS listing shows this information;
"Summary information for 74.86.39.114/32
Note: Times shown are for the latest entry only!
Found 2 network entries and 0 host/domain entries.

Problem Entries, (listings will cause email problems.)(CURRENT LISTING - ACTIVE)
10 "Spam" entries [18:56:12 23 Sep 2013 GMT+00].
74.86.39.114 - 10 entries [18:56:12 23 Sep 2013 GMT+00].

Problem hostnames/domains (could cause email problems.)(HISTORICAL LISTING - INACTIVE)
1 "Spamvertised" entries [14:51:16 10 Sep 2013 GMT+00].

74.86.39.114 - 1 entries [14:51:16 10 Sep 2013 GMT+00].

(Some further minor information has been PM'd to Xper.)

@JorgeA

Just in regard to the embedded ad links (ads links that are associated with

keywords {which appear with 'double underlining'} in forum pages).

One explanation for this is that your ad-blocking software is set to deactivate

upon webpages that have a partial URL pattern e.g. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php... etc.

(that is, forum webpages used for making a 'Reply' or 'Edit' or 'Preview' post)

but is activated on partial URL patterns of e.g. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/... etc.

(so the ad-blocking software reactivates when viewing forum posts).

I myself have my ad-blocking software set to deactivate (upon those forum

webpages used) when making a 'Reply' or 'Edit', simply because the ad-blocking

software prevents the full editor appearing (yes!, I could remedy this, but I have

never bothered to chase down what/which filter I have set in the ad-blocking

software that kills the full editor).

Cheers

Huh, how weird.

The thing is, I'd never experienced those embedded ad links before (unless I was signed out). And, to make things even more curious, they haven't reappeared since I reported them that day. No changes to browser settings had been made at any time around when the issue cropped up.

I didn't know that it was possible to selectively activate/deactivate ad blocking depending on the kind of page being viewed (as opposed to globally for a site/domain). If the problem recurs, I'll look into that, thanks!

FWIW, the issue occurred in IE9 on Windows 7.

--JorgeA

P.S. Thanks for the info on the other post. I guess we (@xper and I) are both waiting to see what Verizon does.

Yeah, that part is fixed. (For now ;).)

Thanks to @xper for the fix.

We'll see what happens with the e-mail notifications. (Nothing new to report yet.)

We have a member who decided to use an username written in Katakana: viz. ハイドン (strangely enough it means "Hydn", a European name).

There's no way to cause the forum to show his profile now (the error is different in FF and in Opera, but certainly is due to the strange characters used.).

Before the upgrade it used to work. Also some of the other members with odd names one can see in the 1st page one gets after clicking in the "Members" tab on the top row of the forum UI also do show the same issue... in fact, all usernames containing the hash (or sharp) character, as well as those containing "bigger than" and "less than", fail to be displayed. So, in other words, up to now I know that, besides Katakana characters, the presence of the following characters in the username do cause the issue I'm reporting here:

 # > <
Fixed.

Database converted to UTF-8 and took me several hours to do it properly. You can test encoding characters and leave post if something is not parsed right.
