Problems with this forum using IE11

I've never managed to get a very good experience from this forum ever since moving to Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer version 11. I can read posts here just fine, but it's just difficult to edit...

Problems:

  • The first problem is basic, really - I can't paste anything. It's surprising how much I rely on cut/copy/paste. You really notice when you can't do it. Not being able to do so really hobbles the user experience on a technical forum. Pasting in things like registry data, script code, etc. or even moving blocks of code from one place to another while composing a message are painful.
  • Another problem is that the quoting facility doesn't work. When I press the
button, there's just an empty edit box. If I use the balloon icon, just an empty "Quote" box appears.

    Workarounds:

Sure, there are some workarounds, but the need to be using workarounds seems to be going on kind of long. It's not like IE11 is newly released any more. Makes me wonder whether the forum software authors have a particular hatred for Internet Explorer 11...

    • Drag and drop text from one place in the forum to another usually works. But after cutting text and finding out it won't paste somewhere else, one has to remember to use Control-Z to Undo the cut, then select/drag/drop. And you can't drag/drop from another window.
    • One CAN paste into a code box, then drag and drop out of that box and into the plain text area, then delete the code box - so that's actually an effective workaround, if a bit convoluted.
    • Sure, I have other browsers installed, and I could use them (having heard that they work on this site) but I'd prefer not to. I prefer to use IE for several reasons. This is not a fundamental "can't get there from here" kind of problem - just an irritation.

My understanding, reading between the lines of what others have said, is that the folks who run this particular forum really don't have a say in what the forum software supports. That doesn't sound quite right to me, but if it's true please someone say to whom we should send messages requesting proper IE11 support.

There are two "levels" involved in this.

The first one is made by the IPB developers (who in the past has shown a level of stupidity, arrogance, and obtuseness AND more generally a total indifference to their users issues and to the integrity of pre-existing data on boards running their software that I have rarely seen elsewhere).

Just check these:

http://reboot.pro/topic/15275-release-botched-rebootpro-code-converter/

http://reboot.pro/topic/17521-the-board-software-is-like-wine/

http://reboot.pro/topic/17521-the-board-software-is-like-wine/?p=160569

to see what I mean.

The good guys @pastehtml.com have in the meantime decided that a html page containing javascript may be a threat and WARN people against accessing it:

http://pastehtml.com/view/b4t99xk89.html

(only if you have the guts to access it ;))

And in my signature there is still the good ol' MSFN broken link converter from two or three past updates.

The second one is the board management, which - ultimately - revolves around xper (or memmber #1 ;)):

http://www.msfn.org/board/user/1-xper/

xper is extremely good willing , and at each stupid board update has done everything in his powers to round the corners and make transitions as smooth as possible, but of course the most he can do is to tweak some settings, here are the threads about issues (some solved, some in the works, some possibly NOT solvable) with latest board software update:

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163472-ipb-update-july-2013-to-version-345-bugs-only/

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163473-ipb-update-july-2013-to-version-345-suggestions-only/

You should post a complete description of the issues you are having (or your wishes/suggestions) on those threads, IMHO.

@NoelC, Your right about the issue with IE, I reported this some time back but still not resolved, and yes I also almost always copy and paste into the threads and rarely just freehand type in like i am doing now, then again I keep forgetting or having a senior brain fart with this issue when I launch IE and type everything out then try and paste in and then crap its a no go . My backup browser Chrome is never a issue and on the plus side it saves my username and pw so saves me some time.DP :w00t:
