Kext: DIY KernelEx extensions

Recommended Posts

Anybody else having issues with Flash at Youtube ?? The player does not start - in fact the field just stays pitch black !!

Flash is working on every other site I tested it with. IMDB, Bandcamp, Arcor, ....

I guess Youtube just stopped supporting my old SeaMonkey 2.0.14.  :o

Jumper, in case you are reading this. Are there any chances that with one of the next updates of KernelEx the bookmark issue of higher versions of SeaMonkey (and IIRC other browsers) can be fixed ??

In Opera 12.02 (Kernelex 4.5.2 in w2k compat. mode) I have no problems watching Youtube with Flash-plugin 10.3.183.7 (

Shockwave Flash 10.3 r183 C:\PROGRAM FILES\OPERA\program\plugins\NPSWF32.dll)

Test "Big Buck Bunny 1080p FULL HD Trickfilm animation (1080p HD)" By the way: best choice for my XP3000/333 computer is 480p.

@ Jumper. To make sure that there is not something really wrong with my system/setup I have tested the Flash issue with K-Meleon 1.6.0 Beta2. According to their website this version is based on Seamonkey 2.0.11. and Flash is not working there either.

But during these tests I have noticed that one added stub for K-Meleon is crashing Sumatrapdf ! After commenting out NtSetInformationProcess Sumatrapdf works again. Not that important (for me) but maybe you can find a fix ?

Non-working Flash on Youtube in K-meleon is a javascript issue, use Opera 12.02, it still handles the new Youtbube javascript and is fully featured.

No crash with sumatra plugin for me with NtSetInformationProcess def in kstub822.ini. (tested 2.5.2 and 3.0).

Thanks for the feedback, Loblo. Unfortunately I do not like Opera so switching is not really an option for me so I hope that Jumper soon finds a fix for higher versions of SeaMonkey. Flash is working at 2.6.1 (and surely later versions) again.

Maybe NtSetInformationProcess does not cause this crash because you are on ME ??

The new Flash 18.0.0.203 runs fine but unfortunately still not directly on Youtube !! I can play files from Youtube without any problems though when they are embedded at other sites !!

@ Jumper. Are you still there ??

For information or for those who write their own Kstub.ini: Now the Flash Player requires [NTDLL] RtlInitUnicodeString. It is already supported by Kstub822. The browser crashes without this entry.

Needed in the ini file to run the Flash Player:

[ADVAPI32.DLL] ChangeServiceConfig2W

[Gdi32.dll] GdiAlphaBlend

[iPHLPAPI.DLL] GetAdaptersAddresses

[Kernel32.dll] GetSystemWow64DirectoryW

[NTDLL] RtlInitUnicodeString

KernelEX 4.5.2 (November 2011) Flash Player 19.0.0.185

Sumatra PDF 3.1 portable requires to run: [Kernel32.dll] InitializeSListHead (supported by Kstub822)

- There is a problem with the installer. The window is empty without buttons and text.

I have some prereleases. The Installer of the prerelease 3.1 10314 (September) works.

- Can someone still print with ComDlgKs.dll or ComDlgEx.dll (topic - Printing with KernelEX)?

* printing happens (again) always as image which leads to more reliable results at the cost of requiring more printer memory; the "Print as Image" advanced printing option has been removed
If "Print as Image" didn't work in previous versions, then there is no longer a way to print until we debug it.

The 3.1 installer uses SSE multi-byte NOP's (without testing for it), so I can't do much there until I update fineSSE or (re)install 98se on a better box.

3.1 portable does an SSE "xorps %xmm0,%xmm0", so is also buggy and beyond my testing reach at the moment. ImportPatcher gives it a clean bill of health, however.

I'm running 7Zip 9.38 beta with [Advapi32.dll] LsaAddAccountRights= and comp. mode Win2000SP4. Maybe someone can check this.

New release 7Zip 15.12: Right click Context menu doesn't appear and work (windows version check). Set KernelEx comp. modes of the executables and dll's in the 7Zip program files folder to Win2000SP4. 7-Zip.dll (Shell Extension) , 7zG.exe (GUI)...

Running 15.12:

- Kstub822:

  [Advapi32.dll]

  LsaAddAccountRights=r0xC0000002s4

- KernelEX compatibility mode: Win2000SP4

Drag & drop from the 7-Zip file manager is broken for me in all 15.xx releases so I have only been updating 7z.dll, 7zg.exe and 7z.exe (I don't try updating  the shell extension out of lazyness). Doing this I have no broken functionality and unless I am wrong it appears to support newly supported formats and all OK (zipx, rar5 and whatnot).

I have c&p'ed the installation folder from XP over to my Win98SE system where 7zip 9.20 was installed.

After renaming of the folders and setting comp. mode of only 7zFM.exe and 7zG.exe to win2000 everything seems to work.

Right-click version check, drag&drop, etc.

Edit: After a reboot the context menue entry is gone   :o  Trying Loblo's method now.
