It seems a little confusing (at least to me) whether you need the 2 bundled updates seperately or not.

 

"Updates 3036197 and 3023607 are installed automatically and transparently together with security update 3021952. Updates 3036197 and 3023607 will appear separately in the list of installed updates when it is viewed in the Add Remove Programs or the Programs and Features item in Control Panel. If you already have security update 3021952 installed, you will notice that security update 3021952 will be reoffered by Windows Update or by WSUS if updates 3036197 and 3023607 apply to your computer but were not installed. Installing three packages together will require only one restart."

 

If I installed the proper 3021952, shouldn't the 2 bundled updates be there installed too (when you install 3021952)? Or why might I have not have them as suggested by MS?

 

edit: ok more instructions here:

1. You must first install the following KBs: KB3021952 and KB3023607
2. After you verify that 3021952 has successfully installed, install KB3034196.

I installed KB3021952 and then KB3034196 and left it at that. I must be missing KB3023607.

avoid installing KB3023607 on computers using Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client application.  a "fix it" solution is posted in Microsoft support KB article 3023607 for this broken patch

Just an fyi for everyone else, found out the hard way that these updates even though show up as integrated, they still come up in windows update. Or i'm just being an id*** when integrating them.

Some updates will still show up in WU, even if you've integrated them. You can install them or just do what I do, hide them.

 

There will be no Service Pack 2 for Windows 7 as it is now in extended support, and no longer in mainstream support. Though MS should release a update rollup like they do for Windows 8.1, and it should contain at least half of the updates that have been released since SP1. At last count there is approx. over 600 updates, this includes request-only hotfixes released through MS support.

This might be a dumb question but anyways - i don't integrate language packs into my build and just install them via windows update, but i've run into a rather weird problem, when the language pack is installed and you go to check for updates, windows update offers your a lot of updates that have already been integrated.

 

Is there some way to avoid this or is this intentional?

I get this on IE11, because Wintoolkit won't let me integrate IE11 language packs so I have to add them post-install. So even though I do integrate all IE11 updates, after I install the language packs WU will still tell me I need the 2 current IE11 cumulative updates. So even though I integrated them, I have to take them again.

 

As for Windows itself, I integrate the language packs I want and WU doesn't offer me anything.

I could be wrong, but I think that the "normal" Windows updates are language neutral, while IE updates are language specific.

3035131 replaces 3023562. 3023562 was removed from february list, but 3035131 is missing in march list. Why?

Another FUBAR Micro$lop update: KB3033929 & KB3035131 were both released 3/10 March patch Tuesday but 3033929 actually then simultaneously supersedes 3035131.

How is this update (3033929) related to the 3035131 update discussed in MS15-025?

This update (3033929) shares affected binaries with the 3035131 update being released simultaneously via MS15-025. This overlap necessitates that one update supersede the other and, in this case, advisory update 3033929 supersedes update 3035131. Customers with automatic updating enabled should experience no unusual installation behavior; both updates should install automatically and both should appear in the list of installed updates. However, for customers who download and install updates manually, the order in which the updates are installed will determine the observed behavior as follows:

 

Scenario 1 (preferred): Customer first installs update 3035131 and then installs advisory update 3033929.
Result: Both updates should install normally and both updates should appear in the list of installed updates. 
 

Scenario 2: Customer first installs advisory update 3033929 and then attempts to install update 3035131.
Result: The installer notifies the user that the 3035131 update is already installed on the system; and the 3035131 update is NOT added to the list of installed updates.

 

 

 

By the above reading I would conclude that KB3035131 is not needed in the ULZ list & doesn't need to be integrated.  I integrated both into a fresh ISO and tested on VM, both showed as installed but when I ran Win Update Cleanup it removed KB3035131.

Known issues with this security update

    If you manually install the security update that is described in advisory 3033929 and then manually install security update 3035131, you receive a message that states that update 3035131 is already installed. In this scenario, security update 3035131 is not added to the list of installed updates. Update 3033929 includes the security updates that are provided by update 3035131. Therefore, the system is not in an unprotected state in this scenario, even though update 3035131 is not added to the list of installed updates. Customers who plan to manually install both updates are advised to install the 3035131 update before they install the 3033929 update. If customers manually install the updates in this order, the list of installed updates will include both updates.

 

 

 ... I would conclude that 3035131 is needed in the list & should  be integrated.  FUBAR indeed.

 

As a side note KB3033929 is causing reboot loops in some users dual-booting Linux OS's.

Did you even read my post? How is a feature of an installed os relevant to the question i asked?

What i wanted to see is something along the lines of this:

I had a hunch some updates were obsolete by now, therefore after some googling on how to compare folder contents, found out that these ones are no longer relevant.

Btw is there a website to check which updates were superseded, my google fu gave me irrelevant results.
