  1. So I need ODBCCP32.DLL to run MediaMonkey. On page 1 it says that it needs both ODBC & Jet Database Engine. Does anybody know the files needed from Jet Database to run MediaMonkey?
  2. Really? I thought OOo needed Jet Database Engine to run since MS Office needs it. Now if I can only find the files that are truely needed to run MediaMonkey.
  3. I'm basically trying to remove ODBC and Jet database engine from the install while still being able to run OOo and MediaMonkey. So does anybody know all the files that are needed to run OOo and MediaMonkey that are part of ODBC and Jet Datatbase Engine?
  4. Removing it completely I guess since I'll be selecting it for removal in nLite. The icon for me has never been a problem. Since I don't need network connections if I can input my IP address and other info a different way, I might as well remove it.
  5. Is this service necessary for Windows XP Home or can I remove in nLite? What programs require it in order to work successfully?
  6. What is this for? I know it says it's used by antivirus programs and others, but what exactly are the programs that depend on File System Filter Manager?
  7. I do have a static IP address and already removed DHCP and WMI from my install. I have removed all the services/components that you have mentioned, except DCOM and I don't get that "acquiring network" icon. Maybe it's DCOM that causes it.
  8. How important is it to not remove network conections from nlite? Can I still connect to the internet without? I found where in the registry to put in all my internet settings such as Default Gateway, Subnet Mask, IP Address, and NameServe (Primary & Secondary DNS)
  9. Is there anyway you can set your IP address, DNS, etc through the registry?
  10. Does anybody know the exact files needed to be able to install MediaMonkey and run it?
  11. I actually have that same problem. I fill in all the information and yet I still have limited privileges. It takes me to the login screen on startup and there's always my account with limited privileges and another account (Owner) with admin privileges. I would like a solution as well
  12. I'm running FireFox right now and don't have IE or the IE Core in my install. It works perfectly fine.
  13. I wouldn't install Adobe Reader 8 at all. Go and download Foxit Reader. You can get it as an install or as an executive so you don't have to install it at all. It's about 3mb without the installer. Does everything Adobe does, but a much smaller and faster program. I never use a Real-Time antivirus scanner because I have yet gotten a virus, spyware, adware, trojan, worm, etc. I don't even have Windows Firewall on. I removed that from my install and everything is fine. If you don't need a real-time scanner, get ClamWin. Then you don't have any extra services taking up resources. ZoneAlarm firewall just sucks up to much resources for my taste. Like I said, I don't run any firewall and am perfectly fine. Even the regular Windows Firewall does a well enough job that you shouldn't need a third party one. Do you really need 7-Zip and WinRAR? I just have 7-Zip and it does basically everything WinRAR does just without the fancier interface.
  14. Am I allowed to remove more stuff from the install when using nLite? So I can't add back anything at all?
  15. Thanks Madhits45. I'm going to read up on this and read everything through. Then I'll get going on making another partition and running this thing.
  16. I know you can use a different shell to replace the Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer though is still on your computer. I want to be able to remove the Windows Explorer and then intergrate a different shell (like GeoShell) into the install. That way you have just that shell and the Windows Explorer is completely gone.
  17. There is no "manage" when right-clicking on My Computer. Must be something else that is taken out by removing IE Core. Why shouldn't I remove the IE Corem Jeremy? I have everything installed that I always do and it all works 100%. If I don't need it, why have it? If only I could remove the explorer and slipstream in a replacement Shell.
  18. I removed the Internet Explorer Core with nLite and that also removes the ability to add, remove, and change User Accounts. Is there away to delete a user and set it so I don't have to go to the Welcome Screen through the registry?
  19. Do I need hotfix KB886185 if I remove Windows Firewall since it deals with a restriction option in the Windows Firewall? Do I need hotfix KB914388 if I remove DHCP Client since it deals with the DHCP Client Service? Do I need hotfix KB920683 if I remove DNS Client since it deals with the DNS Resolution?
  20. Service Pack 3 won't be released at all from what I've read. It kept getting pushed back further and further. [ No, that's against the rules. ]
  21. I already have a router, use common sense when using the internet (hence, I only go to a handful of sites so I know where I'm going), and I use FireFox at the moment, but will switch to Opera since it's the most secure of the big three. Also, I already slipstream the Windows Update fixes into my install using nLite so I don't have as many holes from the get go.
  22. That still though doesn't allow you to remove Windows Explorer. My settings were already like that after I tried LiteShell. It automatically creates the path in the registry and changes the original Widnows Explorer shell to USR. It's so easy though to bring back the original Explorer and it still loads in your processes. I'll just keep the original Windows Explorer unless there's a way to completely remove it and load a different one using nLite or something similar.
  23. If you can remove Windows Explorer, you can use a Shell instead that will use less resources than Windows Explorer. Ex: LiteShell uses 4mb of ram compared to 12-16mb of ram that Windows Explorer uses. Plus, LiteShell is much more responsive and quicker than Windows Explorer Only thing lacking with LiteShell is you don't get the system tray at the bottom of the screen. This can be taken care of by using TrayModule. A little tricky to install and get used to, but so are most things that you try for the first time.
  24. I'm finishing up my nLite process and I just have a few questions about if I should remove these or not. I'm running Windows XP SP2 and my browser is Opera 1) Has anybody removed "Extra Fonts" and had no problems at all with it? Would you guys/girls recommend me keeping that in the install? 2) If I remove "Logon Notification" will I still be able to shut down my computer? I only have me as a user and I bypass the login screen all together.
  25. All the firewalls I have used are resource hogs and I don't have that much to be using actually. I only go to a hand full of sites, like 10 or so. Not wanting to make a whole different topic or anything so I hope I can ask this question as well. What exactly needs Windows Management Instrumentation? other than what is stated in nLite of course.
