  1. If this is a Windows 7 PC, it will not have Outlook Express but instead Windows Live Mail. Works SE is the equivalent to the Office Starter. Basically you get a couple apps (for example with Office you get a stripped down Word and Excel) that will either be a 60 day trial or an ad-based product that does not expire. This version of Works may give you the ability to upgrade to the full version, but I'm not sure. Office and Works are separate products, but I am not entirely certain why Microsoft keeps Works around.
  2. There are 2 steps you need to do before trying to get an app to work. 1. Determine the memory footprint. WinPE x86 will require 512MB RAM and x64 requires somewhere over that, but let's just say 1GB RAM. In my experience, even a PC with 4GB RAM using WinPE 2.1 x86 cannot properly run on a 2GB boot.wim. You also need to consider how big your Ramdisk needs to be and/or if VirtualBox will want to write cache files somewhere. 2. Now that you have VirtualBox in your PE, run Depends (Dependency Walker) on it FROM the PE. Do not bother running Depends on VirtualBox from a normal OS, you will get back too much information.
  3. A Smart Card can be used for various things since it is programmable. To sum it up, think of it as a hardware key similar to how some high-level engineering applications use. Microsoft sums it up well with this: From: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd277362.aspx
  4. Update: You can specify a wallpaper with DesktopBackground, but that object will not be used unless a ThemeName is also specified. For my purposes, I use "aero" as my ThemeName. So for example, this DOES NOT work: <Themes> <DesktopBackground>c:\wallpaper.jpg</DesktopBackground> </Themes> But this DOES work: <Themes> <ThemeName>aero</ThemeName> <DesktopBackground>c:\wallpaper.jpg</DesktopBackground> </Themes>
  5. You need to sysprep /generalize an image for deployment. Why can't you do it? Its because Microsoft made Windows 7 deployment more versatile in comparison to XP Deployment. XP was dependent on hardware, Windows 7 isn't, providing you do it properly. And by "properly" I mean you need to generalize the image.
  6. My question was, that if you disable the showing of icons, does it still search for them anyways?
  7. If anyone is having this issue, posting a full crash dump may be a good thing just to verify it is not a problem with the update and perhaps some other program/driver that uses win32k.sys as a dependency.
  8. I wonder if we should consider this a "beta" product as far as conversation goes...
  9. I wonder if I ever get banned, if I will never be able to "know" anything anymore, or I will endlessly search the internets for places to go to "know" but not "know" how to get there...
  10. Interesting use of "IT"...
  11. Welcome to the MSFN!
  12. Have you tried IP Board Mobile skin? You can select it at the bottom of each page.
  13. In the F8 menu, see if you have a Step-By-Step configuration. Not all systems have them. But if yours does, you can see what it tries to load after MUP.SYS because it will ask you to confirm loading it.
  14. I found the only (supported) options for me are the Wallpaper and the User Tile. The other ones I can't change due to licensing restrictions! For the wallpaper, I used DesktopBackground child of Themes object, but Windows picks the default. Possible reason: ComputerName page in OOBE is set to not display! Same type deal for User Tile. This is set by OOBE.XML, and I checked the Panther logs and it does show it reads that file and locates the custom user tile. However, documentation says that Windows will choose one of the default icons if User Name page in OOBE is hidden! User Tile has been confirmed by the documentation, however DesktopBackground isn't as easy to figure out. Here is an example: User Tile info: And DesktopBackground: The first part makes sense, but the Note makes me think you should be able to specify it even if the Computer Name field is hidden.... Quotes from here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744376%28WS.10%29.aspx
  15. The Administrator account isn't hidden, it is just disabled. You can find it both in C:\Users and in Computer Management.
  16. Happy XP DGR EOL Day!

  17. Your PE will need the Scripting and HTA packages installed. Otherwise, code questions will get this thread moved.
  18. You are refering to using the skip rearm, which allows extra times.
  19. 1. We have a vLite forum. I am going to move this topic there. 2. vLite is for personal use. You should read the License that comes with it.
  20. Oooo I have some questions! Can these be accomplished with the unattend? CLG for Windows 7 Pro x86. I checked the help file and can't find anything, so I won't be disappointed if no one else knows. 1. Taskbar Style. Let's say a user makes the taskbar half-height, wan't the wide minimized boxes and sets a smaller font size. 2. Desktop icon arrangement. I already have icons in the Public Desktop, and are arranged in certain places on the desktop in Audit Mode. After sysprep, these icons are still there but are now set to auto-arrange by name. 3. Start Panel being blank. Take your regular Windows 7 (not classic) start panel and remove all the recently used and pinned icons and this place is blank. After sysprep, the default items appear. 4. Start Menu items. We know you can manually customize what items are in the Start Menu such as Computer, printers, etc. If you specify a custom arrangement in Audit Mode and sysprep, the default menu items return. 5. Profile Picture. By default, Windows will randomly pick one of the built-in "avatars" for a new user. Can I specify a specific picture instead? That's it for now!
  21. Not sure about the touch pad, but I have Ricoh drivers injected into my Win7 install images and that works fine.
  22. The Info Tool comes with AutoIT. Actually its called AutoIT Window Info. Basically you open the program you want to automate. Then open the Info tool. You can select buttons on the installer and the tool will tell you what the Modal values are for those buttons or windows. BUT! Some programs will show no info so it is not the perfect solution. If there is a silent command line you can look or ask in here: http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/80-application-installs/ I have made an autoit app that installs Nero and just passed the full command. The reason i do not like specifying coords is because sometimes the windows do not always open in the same place, or screen resolution can be different.

    hi

    Welcome to both of you!
  24. Tripredacus, thanks for your reply. I would think a heads up would be appreciated here. Don't know what IPS is. So, enjoy, John. IPS is Invision Power Services. They are the company that develops the base of this forum software. People who use IP.Board can make their own changes or add-ons, but the underlying code is handled by them. Have you seen if there are any updates for IE9 beta? Anything in Windows Update or maybe a newer download? I haven't gotten IE9 beta yet (I was an early adopter for IE8 Beta tho) so I'm not sure what is out there.
  25. Is it possible that the code breaks if it encountered an access denied condition? Is this a shared app used by multiple people, or is it using files available to multiple people?
