  1. No tricks, nothing in the hands.... Most times when we can't find something on google, its usually because we are using the wrong search terms. So a single search may not give you any answers. You need to look at what you do find and try different terms. It might seem like some magic trick!
  2. The only difference between those two lists is that these items: Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\WinUSB.sys Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\lan9500-x64-n51f.sys Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\lvuvc64.sys Loaded driver \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\usbaudio.sys Load earlier (after mouhid.sys) in the "failed" boot, and load later (after srv.sys) in the normal boot. Try these: - boot the OS without the NIC connected. - update your LAN drivers.
  3. Just so you know, using uptime as some sort of feature of Linux is an invalid argument.
  4. Does it not work in both x86 and amd64?
  5. Remove this from your XML and try it again. <InstallFrom> <MetaData wcm:action="add"> <Key>/IMAGE/Index</Key> <Value>1</Value> </MetaData> </InstallFrom>
  6. Out of the box, if using GPT format (even on a BIOS level), Windows 8 is going to automatically create the MSR and boot partitions. In this case, if you are using GPT on BIOS, you'd get a 2TB max GPT volume (even if the disk is larger) but the OS won't be able to boot because Windows 8 cannot write the boot files for a GPT disk on BIOS. But it is possible to manually install Windows 8 (not using Setup, but using DISM) to a GPT disk on BIOS, as long as the two other partitions aren't created. That, however, isn't a supported method of installing an OS on GPT.
  7. What is the difference between that and the Start Screen color? ColorSet_Version3 http://www.autoitscript.com/forum/topic/145063-change-windows-8-start-metro-screen-background-color/
  8. And from that article: Enterprises won't go to it because the Enterprise support cycle allows them to skip products. Its no surprise that most skipped Vista and will go to 7, its because XP extended support lasted long enough for a new OS to come out. So unless the currently accepted (and incorrect, imo) business model changes, I don't see any corporations going to Windows 8 if they don't have to.
  9. I can verify that on both my desktop and my laptop that IE hasn't appeared in the Start Menu at all. On the laptop is a few days' old user account but definitely has used IE some, and the recent programs list isn't fully populated yet so I know IE wasn't just bumped off the bottom (I have it set to 17!). On my desktop there are programs that I've launched more recently, but only once ever whereas IE I have definitely launched at least one or two handfuls of times. v1.1RC is installed on both PCs. I haven't actually used the internet with Windows 8 yet, but I am under the impression that there are 2 implementations of IE in Windows 8. One that runs as a Modern Style app, and one that runs as a Desktop Style app. If this is the case, if you are running the Modern IE, it wouldn't show up as a recently used program. You guys probably have more experience in the day to day workings of Windows 8 than me by now.
  10. Wow glad I don't get alerts to my phone!

  11. It probably stores that setting in a cookie. As I mentioned, Yahoo does the same thing BUT it won't do it if you are signed in somewhere already. Yahoo (at least) still considers the IM and the Email separate. So as an example, while I don't really use Yahoo IM, I have all my Yahoo accounts signed in on an IM client (Trillian) and set to away. Then anytime I log into email, Yahoo can't connect the IM because they are already in "use."
  12. Ok, it may come down to your answer file. Are you specifying the location of install.wim? Are you sure your ODD is actually letter D?
  13. Have you looked into Process Explorer? I am not sure if it can create a log file. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
  14. Unfortunately, we won't really be of much help in this. To be fair, the term for the concept you are inquiring about is "high-availability"
  15. Unlike their desktop counterparts, notebooks aren't very tolerant to physical abuse.
  16. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/11/15/surface_lawsuit/ Get in on this, if you feel you were wronged. For some reason I feel it will be a very small class.
  17. I've done limited sound testing with Linux. Knoppix should be fine presuming it has the drivers.
  18. Try using a startnet.cmd (blank out your winpeshl.ini for this test) and have this at first: wpeinit wpeutil initializenetwork ping 127.0.0.1 -n 16 -w 1000>null net use z: \\7SERVER\images password /user:kdineen I personally do not use winpeshl.ini for any boot images that connect to the internet. Note, the InitializeNetwork command may or may not be required. The ping is in place because not all NICs are immediately usable after being enumerated.
  19. That error you are getting is generally seen when trying to boot an image. Is that when you get the error?
  20. Windows renames the INF file. It is 146 because it is (probably) the 147th INF file that was injected into the WIM. If you use DISM's /GET-DRIVERS on the mounted image, you can view all the injected drivers, which shows the oem# as well as the original filename and other information. Since you have over 30-40 things in there, you'll probably have to > text file to be able to see them all.
  21. What roles are running on this server?
  22. You can also try Fraps, which has a trial version that doesn't expire... but puts a watermark on the top.
  23. You will find any VBScript (HTA) related things in this section, including a recent thread about a progress bar. http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/66-programming-c-delphi-vbvbs-cmdbatch-etc/
