1. its better to use that command itself Why do you want a regtweak for that. 2. This one is do-able for explorer windows - take a look at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Window_Placement

MST Maker for Silent Install for MSI
prathapml replied to Astalavista's topic in Application Installs
Looks good Astalavista. Thanks for introducing me to this tool. -
Yes, that's what I meant.

Haha.... (lol @ the grit on keyboard) Well, one immediate solution I can think of is the MoveTo/CopyTo tweak - get it here. I'd say there must be some way to change the default copy action to move - until I find that, try DirectoryOpus or PowerDesk6 which allows the drag-n-drop behaviour to be configured.

crap! I'll be surprised if India's space program does anything new that NASA hasn't done. All they want to do is repeat what's been done by NASA - research the *SAME* things - therefore wasting money.

@leodio Since I see that you use classic desktop as well as classic start menu, use BOTH these settings in winnt.sif : [Shell] DefaultStartPanelOff=No DefaultThemesOff=NoDo post back on how it goes.

Its not a big deal. As I said above, the intent of the post was a suggestion - that using such a long variable somehow seems unnecessary - I like to keep things as "tight" as possible. What you do finally end up doing depends on personal preferences. -
You can actually use "/integrate:pathname" straight out.
-
place a brick on your shift key? (then you don't need to use it, and also you can type LIKE THIS, j/k)
-
yzowl and simonsays, leodio prolly needs the other way of doing it. @leodio Put these lines in winnt.sif to have classic start menu by default: [Shell] DefaultStartPanelOff=YesYou can go back to XP start menu if you want to, if you do it this way. Always try to set up what you need from winnt.sif, and look to regtweaks only if there's no way from winnt.sif.

Oh yes, I remember that.... Back from the time when everybody with an XP home wanted all the functionality of Pro! Well, you don't need third-party files for that. Microsoft's own documentation, updated for SP2. Check out this Excel file, it has all the reg changes that "gpedit.msc" (group policy editor) makes directly - link. (I wish I had this a year ago!)

Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?
prathapml replied to m8E's topic in Networks and the Internet
Here I am logged-in on firefox typing up a lot of text to say why IE's security is better, and firefox crashes on me! Well, I don't want to type it again. 2 simple ways to improve security with IE: - If using XP, install SP2. - Run "gpedit.msc" and configure IE security features. Opera is a complete suite of browser,mail,IRC,voice-command,etc. That is the one I use at home, and am extremely happy with what it gives. -
It doesn't work for you... in what sense? Does the EXE run? You mean to say the scripts it makes is not proper? Or something else is wrong with it?

Another RunOnceEx problem
prathapml replied to Martin Zugec's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Hmm... The key thing to find out for you now, would be the "some times". Once you find out under exactly what conditions the ROE occurs once again, you can fix it. (That's the key to fixing bugs - finding out more details, pinning down the cause, and working out a solution.) Please collect more data on the "sometimes" and post it here. -
Is Firefox & Thunderbird better than IE & Outlook?
prathapml replied to m8E's topic in Networks and the Internet
Do you want a fanboy-type reply, or an answer from experience? Okay, lots of fanboy replies *WILL* come here anyway - so let's talk real world. If you are on XPSP2, you have the best version of IE there is. How does firefox _seem_ to be better? Because it is crippled! Do you say a car is better because it has entrances only at the top therefore making it less easy to enter? If so, you are forgetting that if you had basic security knowledge (of locking your car when you are not around) there's no need for crippling your car, plus there's the fact that if someone wants to steal your car anyway, it doesn't matter to him where the door is (only thing that matters, is whether your car is worth stealing and whether you have taken appropriate measures to secure it). If you work in a corporate environment with managed settings by your Network Admin, and have custom apps which were made for the IE engine, you have pretty much no reason to have problems (unless your admin is a "defaults man" ). A barely literate user (but who knows to talk a lot) browses a few warez and porn sites with IE, gets a dialog-box to install something and he clicks yes without bothering to read what it says - now he's infected. :crycry: And his admin was dumb enough to not have users logon as *USERS* and instead all accounts are local administrators. BOO HOO! Why am I not surprised! So now what is their reaction? Abandon IE and run crying to firefox. These same people will once again run to something else when problems with firefox are discovered. They'll never have peace. Firefox has not enough users worth hacking, and it offers very less features. This is the reason its not hacked into as much as IE. A sane person will see that. A fanboy will not. Having said that, I don't oppose firefox. In fact, I've been a major supporter of it right since the days of v0.1 (that's when it was called phoenix after having branched off the mozilla codebase) and even during mozilla 0.x days - in those days the obnoxious firefox fanboys weren't around to push it down all throats. Competition is good - but using unreal arguments to get someone to move away from their preferred app is not. I still use multiple browsers. Do not base your decisions on "running away" from something or someone. Your choice should be positive (eg: XYZ *DOES* this), rather than negative (eg: XYZ does *NOT* have this fault). Personally, I would take a good look at what the usage of the browser/e-mail client would be, and then decide which one is best. ---------- Outlook Express - remove that immediately, use thunderbird. IE - If you have XP (with SP2) then you can continue using IE itself. Otherwise take a look at firefox or Opera. Mainly, decide why you're moving away from your current browser - features? security? ease-of-use? -
Well, xper seems to have helped by editing his post to normal characters. @rahul_puri20 Please remember for next time to post in non-bold chars. Because we can't be editing posts every time. The reason is, the forum where you promote your site will not be affected - but the site you are promoting will not get a good impression on the members who read it.

@SiMoNsAyS Yes, tried googling - but there's many sites that claim to be the real one.... and I did not really know what its supposed to look like. Atleast now I know what it is that seems to fascinate all those crowds on BBSes! Doh! I'm feeling weird that I asked for it actually. @cypher_soundz Sick! No thank you, lol I had enough for today. goatse and tubgirl doesn't make me laugh, but it sure mystifies people sufficiently, for them to make thousands of posts (on other forums).

Just specify the dir name! Example: cdimage -lYOURCDLABEL -bC:\xpcd\bootsector.bin -h -n -m -o C:\targetdir C:\xpsp1.ISO

Please learn how to post, before posting a new topic or replying in one. First, describe your problem yourself. If you won't take the time to help others to help you, why should others bother? Second, don't attach large images like the one you did above (slows down the forum). Upload it to an image host and use IMG tags while posting it here.

****, why do people think that using bold formatting is a good idea! Its *VERY* irritating and even if your site was good, a person won't care to visit. You are straight away giving a bad impression of your site.

Wow! firefox.exe -profile defaults\profileThat works. So now just run it with that switch, configure/install-extensions, and SFX it up for extraction to new install!

Registering File Extensions Unattended
prathapml replied to SiMoNsAyS's topic in Application Installs
@SiMoNsAyS The shortened variable you use here, can be called a perfect way to waste time (on typing and replacing text in notepad) (no offense meant). Either just use %ProgramFiles% itself in the batches, or shorten it to something *REALLY* short like %PF% - the usage of such a big variable (like %SHORTPF%) is unnecessary. -
How do you slipstream Viewsonic monitor drivers?
prathapml replied to Sgt_Strider's topic in Device Drivers
If the setup file is actually a CABbed or zipped SFX, then just extract with winzip/winrar. -
okay, both of you calm down! ripken204, the best way to do the user creation and logon, is this - link.
