  1. Yes - but that is only when you use the MCE disc. When installing from CD1, if you give a MCE key, then you get MCE installed, and if you give an XP Pro retail key, then you get it installed without the MCE extensions. Using your vlk XP gives you XP pro vlk alone - no way of getting MCE with it.
  2. There was a father and son who were always in competition with each other. One day the son left to take an entrance exam at a university. He wanted to major in medicine. A week later he returned from his trip looking very down in the dumps. "How was the exam?" asked his father. "They asked quite a lot of 'fill in the missing letter' questions about first aid and stuff. I got a score of 75%. It wasn't good enough to get accepted," the boy replied. "Well in that case I better take that exam myself," the father said. So off to the university he went. A week later the father returned from his trip looking very down in the dumps. "How was the exam?" asked his son. "They asked quite a lot of 'fill in the missing letter' questions about first aid and I got them all wrong but one." "Gee, Dad. Which question was that?" "The question was...", started the father, "What do you do when you come across a lady which has fainted. You feel her pu_s_?" "That's easy", the son replied. "The answer is pulse." "Oh, hell," said the father," I got that one wrong as well."
  3. FACT: * 10% of all car thieves are left-handed * All polar bears are left-handed ==> If your car is stolen, there's a 10% chance that the culprit is a polar bear.
  4. It needed to be big so that ppl can scroll and then get shocked.... Okay, re-sized as per your wish, and its now a link to big image.
  5. If all one wants to do, is allow http proxying (to allow browsing the web on a lan) - then AnalogX Proxy wins hands-down. Its wonderfully simple and quick.
  6. If you've heard all about Ubuntu and just want to get the Install CD or test the Live CD, you can download it here immediately: Download Ubuntu through ftp and torrent. If you want it shipped to your door for free, read further below. I'm not normally one to fall for "free" offers. But this one looks good, so if you ever were interested in Linux, give it a look-in. Skip ahead to the home-page and see what all the excitement is about - LINK.For those who need to see what it looks like - Screenshots. This is a distribution based on Debian GNU\Linux - it takes debian and builds on it to result in a very good deal for the end-user. Its modularity and packaging system have been made for ease-of-use for even the amateur. Apps in Ubuntu and the components philosophy If you want a shrinkwrapped CD we will gladly ship it to you at no cost. To receive a complimentary copy of the Hoary Hedgehog CD -- or a handful to give to your friends, your school or LUG, place your request at:shipit - You can order the entire 10 CD distribution for free there. Don't be a sucker, be polite and order only as many multiples as you want - if you order 50 CDs and more for your greed, its only your own delivery that is going to be delayed. Orders placed here will be shipped in 4-6 weeks. If you are a windows user and want an OS that you can use legally, here's your chance. Those using windows without a license, might want to see how Ubuntu performs. And if you think windows is bloated and need something slimmer, then see this. Or if you are a computer geek and windows has got too easy to use lately, and you have learnt all there is to it, then check out something new - Ubuntu. Developers and coders of course, know that they are missing on something for sure if they have not been initiated into the world of linux. As for all others, don't bother to waste your breath complaining about windows if you never have the guts to move out of it and use something better! Grab this, you got nothing to lose by going ahead and ordering it for yourself. When it arrives, check it out after installing it, and if you like it, GREAT!! Here's to the forum junkies - The Ubuntu Linux forums And the IRC junkies - Ubuntu IRC Channel: #ubuntu on irc.freenode.net
  7. What's the best Proxy server software for a LAN? This is in the sense of being able to share internet sesources when only one desktop in a LAN is a server, because only that one has been assigned an IP through a broadband connection to an ISP. One good app for this is Wingate (v6.0.x is the current release). What's your favourite, and which others are good? Please post what you know and have yourself used - googling and posting the same is not a good answer.
  8. Yes, try it and see.
  9. Me on 360 degrees too. If anyone wants to get invited, PM me with your yahoo ID.
  10. No, they can just as well read it I guess. If they miss it, then hard luck! Oh, and please don't credit me for above post - I'm just telling the normal slimming as in the uA XP discs with a bit of difference for MCE!
  11. All of the below downloads require a key for the main VMware5 workstation. Get a free 30-day evaluation key from here - LINK. Release Notes features VMware forum Support and downloadable documentation Now for the below links, if any of them do not make sense to you, it just means that you have no need for it. The below is a monster list of all VMware recently released prducts, and is aimed at advanced users. 1. VMware workstation 5 (windows) 2. Movie Decoder 5 3. disk mount tool || manual 4. VM importer || manual 5. VMware workstation for linux - tar.gz ||| (or get this on redhat) RPM
  12. Now this is good news indeed!
  13. Actually, you could have it all on one normal CD itself. Just delete the junk from the resulting combined set of files: 1. Delete the "Support" and "Valueadd" folders from CD1 to save about 20 MB. 2. Delete the "dotnetfx" folder from CD1 (this one is to be done carefully, I'm not sure if removing .NET framework will still let it work fine) to cut out 40 MB of junk. 3. Delete these folders inside I386 on CD1 - "LANG", "WIN9XMIG", "WIN9XUPG", and "WINNTUPG". Now another 138 MB is chopped off safely (with the limitation that now you can only directly boot from the CD and clean-install, with no option to upgrade an existing Windows OS - which should be fine since the clean-install method is the best method anyway). 4. Delete these folders inside CMPNENTS from CD2 - "NETFX" and "TABLETPC". This should chop off another 98 MB from CD2. Now see the total size of your MCE 2005 CD (combining both CD1 and CD2) Its just 546 MB now. Happy? No need for DVD-writer now, and no need of 99-minute CDs.
  14. Thanks for the encouragement and support you are lending, through above post. BTW, if it was so simple..... why did you not post it yourself first? Moreover, your post history shows you have only one post till now - troll (deliberately disrupting the peace). Please read the rules and the topics linked to in my sig, and refrain from further trolling unless ban is a loved word.
  15. How much of system RAM you have? Atleast 64 MB is needed..... And then, OpenOffice 2.0 series is a better choice to run - does not crash.
  16. And I will stick with linux which I believe is best for me. It has always been free - as in "freedom". If you mean "free of cost" as in "free beer", then you are missing the point of open-source. For an explanation, please see my post above. So yes, linux is all free.
  17. "mentions" in the thread are of no point. Precise instructions please. Or have you ever done this yourself at all? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No responses to this yet.The conclusion is that this is a dead subject - which is not even possible. @eidenk You have used win98 deploy tools in the past. Check out XP's deploy tools and prepare to get amazed. For all else, please read what I already posted in my prev post - the above 6 posts seem to be all talking the same thing, without noticing that it hasd been addressed in what I wrote.... Does anyone even know how much win98 was opposed tooth-and-nail? Now the same ppl wanna stay with it. Here's a challenge. 2-5 years down the line, lets see whether you stick to win98, or instead start saying that XP is best for you and that longhorn and blackcomb are not good. Anyone take up this? Or do you accept defeat already?
  18. In the above screenshot, that error seems like: 1. Either its a file got from a network location or CD-rom drive and now can't be read due to some reason. 2. Its a file on HDD unreadable due to disk errors - run scandisk and confirm that all is fine.
  19. "mentions" in the thread are of no point. Precise instructions please. Or have you ever done this yourself at all? Sorry, But I have to let you know that it is possible. And the "Microsoft Family Logon" does allow you a choosable interface to click the user-account you want to login to. Plumber Bob and Joe won't be allowed to use the computer, in the first place. For this last point - the XP sales speak for themselves. I need say no more.10. And I hope you have something better than the Windows Firewall which is good enough. Bought your software firewall? or a router? Or is your OS exposed to the net's evil underground? 12. Hardware support? My 2 year old MoBo already came with only 2k, XP drivers, and linux sources for the same. Since then, I have progressively seen drivers that work with win98/ME on the downward spiral - so too, with application compatibility. 13. uA installs. They do the "trick" and "you think" ? That almost shows up how you aren't familiar with this. Firstly, its not a trick, its a science. Next, don't "think" - just look around this forum (uA for XP) - that's more than I need to say. You will go to mandrake? Yeah right - seeing is believing. And yes, I'm saying this because I know it well - mandrake is not the best linux distro, nor as easy to use as win98, nor as bug-free as it. First time one ever heard of a threat of retarding instead of advancing. 32-bit is dead, and its hardware support and usability is only going to go down. 98 is more stable on a fast CPU? yeah right - why am I not surprised. But all that power is doing you no good with win98. As for your phobia about America getting nuked and XP not working for you.... VLK editions abound, and then you forget that cracks exist. Uhh.... Real world is different. The machine on which I'm typing this right now..... is a 2 gig DDR400 monster. As you illustrate above.... memory management and running of win98se is pathetic - disable this and that, do a lot of things..... and still never get near perf. levels that newer OSes can offer. For your 3400+ processor, yes you ARE squandering it on an OS like win98. Win98se with the SP rivals XP's reliability? First, "reliability" consists of more than stability alone. Next, on stability, XP is second to none - those services might warn you but you never crash. Seems like you are posting on the basis of hear-say..... And finally, all those problems that you mention with XP - just tell if that was on a pirated (and virus-infected) version of XP?
  20. I don't understand...... Why would I want to do this?
  21. Here's more invites. Whoever doesn't already have a Gmail account may use these. Please do not register on these if you already have an account - that would deprive others. http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...8515-82dda2f316 http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...5572-1fc0a3d60f http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...509b-81de82dab0 http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...44e8-8c057fdb8b http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...76bf-306e03d3d0 http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...bc8f-1a870a453f http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...09e8-fb01723599 http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...cdf0-128c5a2f82 http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...117b-b24e2aa02e http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...0d57-854f056909 http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...eb88-1da293ff22 http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...7f70-dddc4a3776 http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...2ca8-ce2518cda8 http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...90fe-f46dbf2a60 http://gmail.google.com/gmail/a-339d53ef2c...eb8e-264603d3db It would be appreciated if anyone that used these invites posted in this topic to say that they have used it.....
  22. I use and support 98se on a daily basis. While I won't force you to say that XP is the best - because 98se is quite fine for older systems, the below certainly is puzzling: Do a clean-install of win98se, install all the updates needed (as in IE6sp1, WMP9, etc.). Then apply the SESP2 (which is developed by gape). Office 2003 still won't install here. Please instruct me how I can get it to install on this.....
