1. Demands too much effort (tried taking the file on CD to 200 PCs and clicking to update, and clicking OK, and clicking restart, and kicking the makers for having made this so horrible?) 2. It will take up too much redundant space on the unattended CD (SAV already has a version of LU right? so why not just replace it with newer one?)

Slipstream SAV 9.0 with the new patch for SP2
prathapml replied to WINXPSP2_FAN's topic in Windows XP
Now how about the LiveUpdate 2.5 update? (available here - to support updating on SP2) -
.NET framework 2.0 is still in beta, and breaks an unbelievable number of apps that work fine with older versions. @j4ever That's cool! BTW, you get to see that dotnetfx folder on new CDs from MS which already have SP1 slip-streamed. So your statement of is not exactly true - new CDs from MS will come pre-integrated with SP2, and will also have .NET framework at the right place that will enable the option on the CD's autorun to install .NET fw.Your way of getting that option to work is simply fantastic. I hadn't even TRIED doing that. I'd simply assumed that dotnetfx was a folder that only was available on an official MS XPSP1 CD.

I install as many apps as possible at T-12. But, Office 2003 and NAV2k3 doesn't install properly at cmdlines stage. And, some registry values get re-generated at first-boot - so they should be re-applied at first logon. Also, the %systemdrive%\install\ folder will cleanly get deleted at GUIrunonce (after o2k3 setup). Network operations, swap-file config, user-specific options, the list goes on.... (which need to be done at a reboot after all apps are done, so what I found this solution). So there you have it - why I run XPlode twice for setup ^^^^.

Make a folder on the hard-disk Simply copy contents of all CDs into this folder in the same directory-structure as they were on the CDs. Then burn that to DVD. That should work - I did the same to UT2004 (5 CDs), and it works fine.

Hopefully there's free shipping...

*BEEP* --censored-- Hey, come on, where are the girls anyway?

When you run "Setup /A", you shouldn't have that app installed. So un-install SAV and try again. Hey all, LiveUpdate has been updated to v2.5 to be compatible with XPSP2. Downloadable here. In NAV, you'd simply replace the "lusetup.exe" in the setup folders to have an updated version. But here, there seems to be no way visible (yet). Any takers for an article on how to integrate LiveUpdate 2.5 into SAV9 ?

Gosh's Unattended Tips And Tricks
prathapml replied to gosh's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
A search for the subject threw up this result - pre-set background Enjoy! -
No closure of thread needed just now.... so carry on. And as for that registry value, maybe that gets re-created after looking up the version of the kernel at every boot-up, don't really know for sure.

LOL, gone a bit too far with geek-speak.. F1= help, I suppose ('coz never heard that word being shortened to THAT short-form, previously).
-
I use XPlode at two points in my install, at cmdlines and GUIrunonce. Can't really explain much else though, everything I got to say is spread out here - but one unique set of tips you won't find anywhere else is here - tweaks.

Currently, going here will take you directly to clicking the "windows" link for the JavaVM.

??? will happen soon enough, just wait and see if mazin and gamehead don't want to be those "other two". Hint to you two (and others who want to be "you two"): This one's gotta also be known as "the life-cycle of a forum post", whaddya say? Search on google for that, and prepare to get amazed.... And come away running to here right away, to post links, LOL

Inanimate objects dance while we ourselves fix ourselves to the spot, seeing it - how's that for a reversal of roles?

Maybe the top-priority is to see that users patch up their OS and not spread viruses/worms, than to prevent piracy which is inevitable - just a matter of time before crackers get through ANY form of protection - so the retraction of the proposal to restrict access to SP2 only to licensed users.

That's an advice I'm gonna take. $416 still isn't something I would spend on a graphics card just to make a game run well. Heh run out, get an FX5200 ($50 or lower) and enjoy gaming - most games will run atleast at low quality on that card.

Windows ME does have this problem, its related to the Soft(ware) Power-off feature. Win98 was released before newer standards were defined, so it doesn't have fail-over mechanisms. Looks like you're asking for a way to disable Fast Shutdown. Hey, this one was a common problem, a LOOONG time ago, so its fixable. There basically is a setting that lets windows fail-over to a reboot, if shutdown (to power-off) doesn't work. I'm sure there's some way to turn it off from the interface (somewhere in the Control Panel), or the registry. We don't very much do Win9x here nowadays, but quite a few of the geniuses here would remember their trouble-some tussles with that OS - for old-time's sake. anyone?

How do you have a Harry Potter fan in knots? Just say: They'll ask how do you know this? Say: And suddenly, everything comes rushing in for them. About how SO many things were unclear, and how your statement neatly fits the plot. Their poles of distinction will go haywire, the world is no longer seen in colour (its all one - black) and all in the known universe will go dark. And their head will no longer be where it is - they'd go mad, and start muttering about how you are the root of all evil in the world, and so on. All in all, a nice trick to play on an obsessed buddy.Have you ever got p***ed off by a Harry Potter damp-sod? Go ahead. Try it! Believe me, it works. NOTE: I have nothing personally against those part of the Harry Potter mania. It was just that I did the above recently, and felt like I had to share the fun with you all. And the madness for Harry Potter seems to be one that hasn't (yet) died down, and has global appeal. Do checkback and tell us YOUR experience after doing it. Does anyone have anymore reasons to justify the "same" statement? 'Coz they're gonna be useful for you.

Well, yeah - thanx for telling us about it. Will remember it the next time I have something to do, that requires these functions. The free version's good ain't it?
