  1. Borrow an external dvdrw, mount in daemon tools and install to another partition...
  2. M$ said if you ordered via the dvd kit you'd get rc1 but I haven't yet... Hell, I only got 5384 yestarday What am I complaining for!
  3. If the image is crapped and you don't have a UA disc, you'll have to start from scratch. I made a ghost bootable dvd and tried to include the image on it but the maximum size dvdrws I have are 4.7gb
  4. XP is actually easier to use even though I've been using vista 5384 for 3 months now. And it crapped up my gaming rig I have to multiboot w/XP to play games.
  5. Ah. A FAT32 disk. D.a.m.n. I kept is as FAT32 so if anything went wrong, I could install win 98 and copy important files before formatting. Thanks for the answer Biohead and fizban2 for that small step into understanding the complicatedness of vista.
  6. 24 services running by default...
  7. Hey, that's my switchless IE7 supports "IE7B3.EXE /Integrate:<Path_to_source>" (i think) And suprtmagician, it's not switchless, it's the original w/the switchess added in svcpack.inf
  8. Everything but my gfx card. No Aero I'll get a new card. Need one for gaming anyway.
  9. I found it a bit buggy on vista. Ok, a lot.
  10. Can you give a link to the ms bcdedit page? One that is understandable.
  11. XP driver and software support can be done in vista. I tested win98 drivers for Speedtouch330 adsl modem and it worked. LMAO! And visual basic, and my sound driver, and ZipGenius... Vista tells you if software didn't install because of not being xp and asks if you want to run it in compatibility mode (it doesn't say, but that's what it does). But I have to go thru 5 security prompts to launch a proggie.

    Windows Vista Support

I.would.not.install.vista.until.nlite.can.slim.it. There's so much bloat installed w/vista. Almost 2 out of the 3gb of a 32bit disc is usless services. If you open services.msc on installing vista, there are 20 diff. services running. And I have to go thru 5 security prompts to launch a program!
  13. Is boot.cmd in the svcpack dir? It should not be compressed.
  14. Make a file called cmdlines.txt in $OEM$\ dir. Put [COMMANDS] "Runonceex.cmd" You can actually put fluffypinkdragons.cmd if the RunOnceEx.cmd you create is renamed. Read this: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/31/ Particularly about understanding how it works. You will want to see this http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/59/ if you don't want to copy all your install files to your hdd before installing.
  15. It means your download iso is corrupt. It took me 12 tries to get a working 32 bit vista b2. Consider that? Test in virtual pc, bochs or vmware? Shame that M$ didn't use Bittorrent. Then, the file would be split into tons of tiny pieces and the client would hash check all of them, and if one piece had a hashfail, it would only need to dl like 1mb again or something. But if you used the dvd kit order option, did you click to format the partition?
  16. Limited Aero capabilities, I have an excellent intel 82915G express gfx card w/128mb ram and no Aero support (so it's not so excellent). And I get 5 prompts asking "do you want to run this proggie", "windows firewall is blocking this program" etc. And driver support.
  17. My problem is that some sort of bootloader for windows was not installed, so I can't multiboot w/my copy of xp. I have used up all 4 primary partitions, one is vista (50gb)(ntfs), other winxp(50gb)(fat32), other my documents (20gb - yes I have a big my documents folder )(fat32) and other stuff, last, paging files and temp files (10gb)(fat32). Can anyone help? Thx.
  18. T-13. When Windoze setup sez 13 mins left (parsing of cmdlines.txt) . T-12: When there is 12 mins left. T-9: when there is 9 mins left... I use T-0 as guirunonce because windows is already installed but it doesn't matter.
  19. Good luck! Would love even a 50mb XP!
  20. If you selected "Quick format", you can use data recovery tools. If you did the full format, get an electron microsope, $40000 and 6 months and you MAY be able to recover about 30mb
  21. Once a month, that's what uA discs are for
  22. Or you could use google. Nero 7: nero7.exe /qn /norestart (i think) photoshop: setup.exe TRANSFORMS=Unattended.MST /qn /norestart Visual studio: not sure of any specific switches, I only use VB.NET and i don't silent install it. Firefox: firefox setup.exe -ms spydot: spybotsd14.exe /VERYSILENT F@H: I don't remember... it overheated my cpu up to 70 degrees celcius so I stopped using it. uharc: no idea itunes + quicktime: itunesandquicktime.exe /S /V"/qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress" dreamweaver: setup.exe /S /V"/qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress" (i think) Google wise installtailor to create transforms.
  23. Right in one Barian... The "windows xp sp2.bmp" gets copied to Windows\web\wallpaper as it's in the $OEM$ folders. $$ means "copy to %systemroot%.
