  1. There is also the Lsi 9750 16i4e but neither support windows 2000.
  2. According to this url, it seem it is a gigabyte motherboard and it should this one but double check by opening the case and verify what is written on the motherboard.
  3. The only tool that might do this (to my knowledge) is atola insight.
  4. Most authoring language uses their own scripting language so maybe you should use it instead of using it to launch batch code. Anyway if you need the loop part, this might work: FOR /R %A IN (Windows*-KB*.EXE) DO ( SET _=T && ECHO= Installation of %~nA... && PING -n 4 127.0.0.1 >NUL && "%A" /quiet /norestart)
  5. Just an update: i successfully installed a revodrive 3 x2 under XP x86 with ocz official drivers and storport.sys taken from windows 2003 SP2 (5.2.3790.3959). I looked for complicated means to finally try something very simple: - i copied storport.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers of my windows XP install - i was then able to install the official OCZ driver like any other driver. The performance aren't that great so far with the benchmarks i ran ( faster than most sata ssd but not that far). I'll try the same benchmarks with other OS.
  6. The crash dump analysis if you provide a dump will most likely point the root cause of the problem and formating/reinstalling the computer might not be a solution. Safe mode doesn't load many drivers/services and don't load any program so the fact that it doesn't doesn't crash in safe only point out almost everything that is launched in normal mode and isn't in safe mode and it is a lot. Machine check exceptions usually point to an hardware component (as explained there) but it could be almost any hardware component. I also read that nvidia drivers might do this kind of things (you could easily remove the nvidia drivers to find out). If the root cause is an hardware problem, reinstalling won't help and i wouldn't install window 7 on this computer as it need more resource than XP.
  7. You could began by posting the mini dumps and configuring XP in safe mode to create a full kernel dump (that you'll need to compress and upload somewhere and post a link to this "somewhere"). This way we might help you repair the current XP install. The next step might be to check you hard drives with data lifeguard diagnostics. For this step, you might need to connect the hard drives to the motherboard but as it might damage your raid 0 (if it find errors and try to fix them), you should create a full backup of everything on the raid 0 before (for example with Acronis true image but you could use clonezilla). Do not install acronis on this computer but generate the media rescue and boot with it (it should allow you to create a partition backup). Also, don't forget that raid 0 doesn't support fault tolerance and that the adaptec 1210a is a software based raid controller (so both acronis and clonezilla might see both hard drives but not the right partition). And in this case, you'll need to backup the data from safe mode manually or with robocopy (from the windows 2003 resource kit).
  8. You could try changing the default papersize in the gs_init.ps as explained in 5.4 of the ghostscript manual.
  9. Also if you go for a new PC be sure to buy a sata 3 hard drive or SSD depending on the needed capacity but lastest SSD are getting cheaper. As you might already know SSD works better with windows 7 because of TRIM support so if you're wanting to keep and old OS, you'll need something to do the triming if you want to keep a high performance SSD (for SSD maker provide tools to do this).
  10. The DNS-320 is a nas based on linux so even if changing the filesystem might work with gparted, you might loose the nas functionnality if the linux can't mount the fat32 partition (it is looking for a ntfs one).
  11. I can confirm Intel usb 3.0 ports work as usb 2.0 ports and are perfectly recognized on windows XP x86. Intel created a "null driver" (given with inf update utility): ; **************************************************************************** ; **************************************************************************** ; ** Filename: PantUSB3.INF ; ** Abstract: Null driver for Intel(R) USB 3.0 devices ; ** Last Update: December 06, 2011 (Version 9.3.0 Build 1018) ; **************************************************************************** ; **************************************************************************** And intel usb 3 drivers need WDFLDR.SYS (Kernel Mode Driver Framework LOADER) which doesn't exist on XP and i think it only exists on windows 7. The good news is that VIA chipset included on GIGABYTE Z77X-D3H works perfectly fine on windows XP and do provide read/write USB 3.0 Speeds. So VIA chipsets might perhaps be ported to windows 2K.
  12. Just to confirm Revodrive 3 drivers are based on storport.sys and as Storport doesn't exist in windows XP x86, it should need a windows XP Storport.sys port or a new driver (from OCZ) to make it work properly.
  13. "-sPAPERSIZE=a4" option should work on your command line according to different ghostscript manual.
  14. How is it formated (exfat, NTFS) if there is only one partition ?
  15. Then you might have 2 dhcp running on the same subnet. When you have the wrong dns, what is the dhcp server when you do an "ipconfig /all" on a client computer ? A good test to find out the other dhcp might be stopping temporarily the dhcp server on the x.x.x.20.
  16. I'd just add : - you should also get an extended support when you'll buy the new laptop if it is not sold with a 3 years old warranty/support. - As for the make of the laptop i'd add to major makes you might want to consider HP and Lenovo.
  17. Not safe at all !!! You should modify the GPO twice (removing only the problematic user in the right assignment part that is causing the problem then wait for it to apply then re-add the user you removed). You sh(/c)ould make a backup of the gpo (and also a report) to be on the safer side but don't use the backup to re-add the user.
  18. 1) Yes you need to integrate the drivers of the both controller or use another support like an usb device to install XP from it. 2) No you don't need to press F6. As in the past, i sometimes had problem integrating mass storage driver with nlite, i'd recommend to use (or to check with) this tutorial.
  19. If you ever need touch from unix on windows, you have the mingw port that works fairly well.
  20. As this topic was posted in the XP section it could be under XP. Did you tried with another (preferably a new) login ?
  21. Exactly what i though when i saw your post: the only way the MBR might block a shutdown (from the OS) would be it contain a virus that would be loaded each boot (and the virus would block the shutdown). I heavily recommend that you make a backup (at the very least) of the MBR (with mbr wizard for example). An a full backup of all the drive should also be recommended (with something like clonezilla or the evalation version of Acronis true image) if your daughter has another drive to store the backup. Edit: it seems i was too late for the backup recommendations.
  22. 2.5" hard drive can store up to 1.5TB but from your post, you should go on a completely different way if you still want a silent computer : - you should buy (see silentpcreview recommendations) or make a silent case with at least 4 bigs fans and at least one rheobus to control all fans (including cpu). - for the gpu, i'd buy an nvidia for linux compatibility and passive cooled as most of the time it is the loudest component (right now i think the GT610 should be the fastest passive cooled nvidia chipset but i don't know if it will be fast enough for you). - You should then pick almost any pseudo silent component without worrying too much. An intel I7 3770t or 3770S should be a good choice with its low TDP and then any passive cooled and compatible mainboard should do.
  23. Why not use Promise fastcheck ?
  24. My current config (i7 720QM + dfi acp cp 330nrm + nvidia GT240) can run in winter without fans running but with good coolers (as i hate noise and getting low power components is the best way). And an i7 720QM isn't that slow. A good start point is silent pc review to find what you might want. When trying to make efficient/low power/low noise config, you'll need some basics: - good air flow in the room (at more or less 20°C most of the time) if you want passive cooling. - at least one rheobus to control the fans speed (as for security you'll need to put at least on or two). - every component should be able work without fan => that imply buying industrial component (like my dfi-acp mainboard) because they can sustain higher temp. Mobile and most modern desktop cpu will also work and resist longer without fan. - power supply should be very efficient (platinium label would be best). Totally passive cooling PSU exist but might not be the right choice as there are hybrid cooling one (a heatsink for passive cooling and a fan when the heatsink isn't enough). - forget 3.5" hard drive as a 2.5" will produce a lot less heat. SSD might be an option if you want to build a very fast computer. - pick good heatsinks (my favorite are thermalright's). - get low noise fan (my favorite are noctua's).
