  1. read about this too last Wednesday ...
  2. thanks all! ... since power could be the issue here (my apologies though as i couldn't run any validation yet ... spending for cpus & not being able to use has taken its toll on me ... have yet to purchase replacements ... & if i may need to replace the PSU too ), what differences could there be why the Sempron works while the Athlos XPs didn't? at this point too, would it be conclusive already that all the Athlon XPs in question had been truly fried? thanks in advance again!
  3. whoa ... was just gone for a couple of days ... & no test release anymore ... a new final instead!
  4. some additional info ... from: http://www.vorck.com/hfslip.html and from: http://www.vorck.com/2ksp5.html
  5. hi! although not directly related (/) i hope that by sharing this, it would help clarify a few things ... allow me to quote: fdv, took the liberty of sharing this there is an English fileset where the above files may be extracted from ... it used to be downloadable as a separate files ... i think though the above file should do the trick, is this right, fdv? this is his site: http://www.vorck.com/remove-ie.html ... i am pretty certain, fdv will be happy to answer any inquiry ...
  6. oops ... my bad my apologies ... this time i hope i got it right ... thanks for the input sirs ... that i didn't consider ... let me try it with the older & tested 350W PSU ... it was only a generic PSU i got: Dynamo Switching PS 500W ... i would be able to do some testing when i get another CPU as i surmise all have already been fried ... putting all 3 too in another known good mobo (ASRock K7VT4A+) resulted to No POST as well ... so i'm still seeing a "blurry" light at the end of tunnel here ... could my old board be innocent of the charges here?
  7. well i have only used the Dell OEM XP Pro SP1a recently ... & i thought it would ask for the CD key ... however it did not ... i didn't even bother preparing a winnt.sif as i wanted to see if it would ... the only thing was it asked for reactivation once it got to the desktop ...
  8. alright ... thanks! i'll do the necessary adjustments ...
  9. thanks for the replies sirs ... although i think the last BIOS flash had nothing to do with the problem because i did that hoping the issue could be resolved ... power supply is new (& either way 500 watts could support the AMD Athlon XP cpus) but still it didn't i'm thinking it could be my mobo failing but i just don't want to admit it (given the strange incidents)... could it be shorting the cpus? thanks again!
  10. thanks TC! i knew about KB926139 ... just tried it though i'll try to do some tests as soon as i get my hands on a working system ... but by the time i do, there'd certainly be a newer version ... or perhaps even a final! he! he! really hope that HF lists would provide info on superceded HFs ... how do i resolve though thanks again!
  11. hi nuhi! this might be a little late to comment on the latest ver: (1) separation of showing full path in the address bar & title bar is great (2) redundancy in Tweaks section: 1st instance: Explorer-Disable File MRU-List 2nd instance: Privacy-Disable File MRU-List (3) with either .cat files removal enabled or not, SFC is grayed-out with "enable" status (couldn't change it to "disable" thanks! Last_Session.ini
  12. hi! i'd just like to report what happened in my recent tests last weekend using 61129a with a Dell OEM XP Pro SP1a & regular XP Pro (still not my pc ) ... (1) got lots of word.format.ps1xml (i.e., certificate.format.ps1xml, dotnettypes.format.ps1xml, filesystem.format.ps1xml, help.format.ps1xml, powershellcore.format.ps1xml, powershelltrace.format.ps1xml, registry.format.ps1xml) & sstext3d.scr, types.ps1xml ... i opted to go for: To skip this file, press Esc. just to see what happens after installation ... was able to get rid of these by removing WindowsXP-KB926139-x86-ENU.exe (2) i likewise encountered " ... framedyn.dll was not found., immediately followed by "Error loading srclient.dll" errors; (3) some addons are not present after install ... even wmp11 (either addon or the .exe) was not present attached are some files & pic that may help clarify the issue ... also, it might be too much too ask but TC & the_guy, would it be possible to request for your hotfixes list (as these are very good references ) to include as notes as to which hotfix(es) has(have) superceded other hotfix(es)? (4) HFSLIP run-times were longer than usual (perhaps because i was using a slower pc & running it from an external USB drive ) even if i had taken out lots of switchless installers from HFSVCPACK_SW dir thanks!
  13. thanks for the confirmation clintb ... i didn't think HFSLIP could break the pre-activation install ... the only fact perhaps would be that you used it on a Dell system rather than a clone, right? ... bringing us back to the concern about not needing to activate it anymore (he! he! ) thanks!
  14. when will this stop?!
  15. could this be done via HFSLIP? do we still have to modify winnt.sif (if using it)? thanks!
  16. hi Tux! it is already with SP1a & slipstreamed SP2 via HFSLIP
  17. hi! i'm not sure if this is the proper forum for this but i would just like to share my recent "costly" experience in trying to fix my system ... i used to have a good running system with the following major specs: (1) ECS K7VTA3 ver 7.0 [AGP 4x support, (Socket A(462), Phoenix-Award BIOS v6.00PG], recently flashed from: 07/11/2003-KT400-8235-K7VTA3C-00 (K7VTA3V7 Ver:7.0D 07/11/2003) to: 01/12/2004-KT400-8235-K7VTA3C-00 (K7VTA3V7 Ver:7.0F 01/12/2004) (2) AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.66 ghz (with Thermaltake Volcano 7+ HSF to Thermaltake Volcano 9) (3) PC 2700 DDR 333 (3 modules: 2 256mb + 1 512mb) (4) from nVidia 4400 SE 64mb to ATI Radeon 9250 128mb to nVidia FX 5200 128 mb (128 bit) (5) Creative SB Live Series (6) from 350watts PS to 500watts PS (7) Seagate 80gb & Maxtor 80gb 7200 RPM hdds (8) ASUS cd/r-dvd combo drive & ASUS dvd/r drive i started encountering problems when a super typhoon hit Manila, Philippines last October ... heatsink fan stopped & eventually my processor got fried ... since mobo only supports Athlon XP series [from as low as AMD Athlon XP 1600+ (.13u) (256K,266,Socket 462) to as high as AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (.13u) (512K,333,Socket 462)] (&/or lower cpus), i tried purchasing Athlon XP 2200 & Athlon XP 2600 ... below are the following strange findings: ■ system No POST with the Athlon XP 2000+ & with the "supposedly" known good Athlon XP 2200 ... tried the same in my sister's ASRock K7VT4A PRO (which supports Athlon XP series) & just the same - No POST ■ system POSTs with AMD Sempron 2200+ (1500mhz, 128kb L1 cache, 256 L2 cache) but does not show as Sempron ... instead as Athlon XP 1200mhz ■ system initially POSTed (about 3x of trial) with the Athlon XP 2600 with all the hard drives' power connector disconnected from the drive (tested with shop owner's Cooler Master HSF, keyboard, CRT & power outlet) ... BUT upon getting home, system did not POST anymore (re-tested with different scenarios: hdd's connected, 2 different known good CRTs, 2 known good PS2 & USB mice, 2 known good keyboards, with Artic Silver thermal grease, with Cooler Master thermal compound, & without thermal grease) ■ tested again with Sempron & once again system (K7VTA3) POSTed ... tested Athlon XP 2600 in K7VT4A - No POST ... put back Athlon XP 2600 in K7VTA3, No POST still ... i'm thinking there is already a problem with my mobo (which might be frying the Athlon XP cpus BUT not the Sempron), but i'd like to believe it is still usable given the last premise ... & i'm not yet shaken enough to believe it is already failed ... please no (considering my expenses ... i could have already purchased a new mobo & proc) ! ... any feedback/solution you could provide me would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!
  18. thanks TC for the concern ... been spending quite a sum on those CPUs ... my current board (ECS K7VTA3 ver 7) only supports Athlon series (or lower) & not Sempron ... it used to have Athlon XP 2000+ in there that got busted so i had to go through the lengths of finding alternate (& supposedly better) CPUs (Athlon XP 2200 & 2600) that got fried ... been attached to that old PC ... he! he! i could burn 1 Dell OEM cd for you if you like & send it over there ... i think S-M in the right track as far as how Dell keeps it activation free ... perhaps this would help ... if i may quote from Dell internal article hope this helps ...
  19. he! he! very timely ... now that i see a topic for this, may i ask if there'd be a way to maintain an activation-free install? i recently used an old Dell OEM XP SP1a cd & it requests for activation upon getting to the GUI ... thanks! ( sad though ... testing is still temporary --- using my sister's PC for quick tests ... just so i could share something have recenly purchased 2 Athlon XP cpus - 2200 & 2600 - compatible to my ECS K7VTA3 ver 7.0 mobo --- & both got fried! --- strange, although unsupported Sempron 2200 works but shows as Athlon 1200 only ... & doesn't get fried! oh well ... )
  20. hi TC! are there not differences in version of reg.exe from 2K & XP? although i think even this one: reg_x86.exe works just fine ... ...
  21. quite a post ... the "big boys" have their say about this ... just trying to insert some comic relief ... indeed comments would be really helpful though but seriously, HFSLIP makes it a bliss to slipstream &/or integrate all those updates & hotfixes ... what made me fall in love with HFSLIP (apart from very supportive folks of course ) is doing away with the long wait for completion after manually applying those regular updates/hotfixes while waiting for MS to release SP or at best having my OS patched already while guessing if MS would do otherwise ... reading through the script truly entails patience & extra knowhow to at least have a bare understanding of its execution ... this could be a great source too: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...t/winupdte.mspx ... thanks!

    Some Issues

hi irflach! sorry for not being able to get back to you on this rightaway ... but just like what S-M & TC had already posted, you have IE7 in HF which is still in the works ... plus you have lots of switchless installers in HFSVCPACK ... take them out & see what happens with your build ... & since you're using wmp10, you might want to add wmfdist95.exe in HF
