  1. Try a lower refresh rate. I have an LCD that also does this when attempted to run at 1280x1024 with default refresh. LCDs don't flicker unlike CRTs at low refresh rates, so use the lowest the card can support (37Hz for mine).

  4. Doesn't look like it... Antivirii programs tend to be spread out across several processes so some other one is probably doing the background scanning.
  5. 8.3 Corporate Edition. Apparently "Ghost 2005"... Yes, I also read that 8 was 2003, which is why I posted. What's the date on yours?
  6. Wow, that's huge for an OS... 5 CDs Even if the product key determines the version, you could still remove the files that are only required in the versions you don't need.
  7. Unless they redesigned the file association mechanism completely, it should still be much the same method - look under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.avi and find the default value in the right pane. Scroll down until you find that default value (most likely 'avifile'). Open it, and under the shellex subkey, then PropertySheetHandlers, ContextMenuHandlers etc. subkeys should be the GUIDs of the appropriate handlers. Copy those down just in case, then delete them to disable.
  8. DHCP assigning the wrong subnet mask?
  9. See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Link_Interface
  10. Might be due to the dual core. I think it's possible to disable one of the cores in BIOS. Try that.
  11. I use 2.78... and I thought my version was old...
  12. Ok...
  13. Tried a different version? There's several Win98SE versions to choose from there...
  14. No, they're supposed to stay highlighted permanently until you click somewhere else.
  15. Try putting your 7600GT's device ID in there and installing it... unless they did a huge redesign of their hardware (unlikely, as I see at least two years of nVidia GPUs there) it should at least work. Well, you do have 640x480 4-bit colors if nothing else works
  16. See my sig.
  17. What do you need 64-bit for anyway? We still haven't fully realised the capabilities of the 32-bit architecture except in esoteric applications involving supercomputers (most SCs are actually still 32-bit architecture); indeed, many have said that the 16-bit architecture hasn't yet reached full potential! Programmers are just getting worse, writing less efficient code that takes more RAM and CPU cycles and thinking that the hardware will "compensate" for that.
  18. Do you really find it that difficult to look through the list of services and use your common sense?
  19. You can also post a HijackThis log and we can analyze it for malicious activity. I can also work with you to help you tighten the security on your computer. More like "his program will analyze it somewhat"...Anyway go here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=114
  20. You may run into compatibility problems, but my XP boots from L: and I haven't experienced any problems that couldn't be solved with a little bit of editing to use the correct drive letters.
  21. I remember when a slightly crazy sysadmin discovered that registry key at the school I worked at... switched the h and t keys so 'the' would always come out as 'hte'
  22. Indeed. Not necessarily legal, but legends of P2P networks being full of virii are basically myth to convince users to buy 'genuine' software. Also - In other words, legal as long as you have a legit key.
  23. You do not understand simply because you have not read entirely my instructions. You are to look in .avi for the default value, then look in the left for the subfolder of the name that the default value had - usually avifile.
