  1. Do you mean you erased the recovery partition as well (as I guess it has one)? If not, check you manual for reinstallation (pressing a given key at startup) If yes, are you sure you can really start from that external DVD ? Do you have the cd you need ? I never installed a compute from a USB dvd so I don't even know if it's possible. If any trouble you could check the forum "install XP from USB and its tools (to get XP installation files on a USB stick and be able to start from it and to actually install XP).
  2. Has it done it from the start (from install, whatever OS you're using) ?
  3. I've had that with all my unattended installs. I think it's a bug (when skipping OOBE?). I get rid of it afterwards. You can still auto log-on the other user, there's an option for that.

    What win XP files

Those of the sata controler's manufacturer (they might be refered as "F6 drivers") for XP.
  5. Welcome to the forums. Please don't double post, see forum rules. If you missed them, see the big red announcement up your screen.
  6. Ok, this has to come out as the most appalling 1st line support answers I've ever seen. So one of my relatives won a Samsung netbook at a lottery (good for him) and asked me to set it up for his email and Internet connection. I tooke the initiative to reinstall it from scratch. At the arrival, I was pretty happy with the result, just few details left. So I searched Samsung's manual and their site and sent them that question with all references to type and model (these are precise translations): Answer:Dear Mr xx, Thank you for your email regarding your question. Before beginning a reparation procedure, you should reset your PC by holding the F4 key when turning it on. Then follow the instructions while the machine starts. If the problem persists, please contact our call center at 02/..... We hope those informations were usefull. If you have other questions, do not hesitate to contact our call center at n° 02/... Regards, Baskim Nevzat Zumbultas Contact Center Samsung Electronics Benelux So I was a bit deceived but not discouraged (they might be better at diagnosing TVs ?) and went on with my own tests to find the solution to my problem. In an effort to feel good with myself, I then decided to share my findings with Samsung. Bad move. ... I should have known better; Dear Mr xx, Thank you for your email regarding your question. You can download Easy Display Manager and Magic Keyboard drivers from our site www.samsung.be. If the problem persists, you will have to start a repair procedure. We hope those informations were usefull. If you have other questions, do not hesitate to contact our call center at n°.... Do not forget to give your client number so we can serve you faster and in an even more effective way. Regards, Arragragui Bilal Contact Center Samsung Electronics Benelux There is a posibility to rate the answer. I didn't bother for the 1st one, I clicked 1 for both after the 2nd and got this reward; "Thank you for choosing score! Your feedback will ensure that we continue to provide outstanding customer satisfaction!" Yea that's it, continue. Sorry people, that sort of thing had to be shared. I saw yesterday that Samsung passed HP as biggest electronic seller. Good for them. Cutting costs.
  7. I see people using "shortfilenames=true" as well as your "/qb". I have no idea if this should be your case so this is just a shot in the dark. Sorry.
  8. I'm often amazed by people on this board, but I must say that iamtheky's ability to provide an anwser to such request baffles me . Jaclaz's crystal ball is made obsolete.
  9. What settings ? This should be asked in the Unattended forum (as nLite doesn't manage such settings). From a short search, you should use something like this in the winnt.sif: [Proxy] Proxy_Enable=1 Use_Same_Proxy=1 HTTP_Proxy_Server=*proxy-server* Proxy_Override=<local>
  10. You've answered your own question. Use that addon. Threre's even a thread still on the 1st page of this forum about integrating IE8 ("and all updates").
  11. The fact the box is greyed "but looks ticked" is a cosmetic bug. But... the button being greyed out means the option can't be used because SFC has already been removed (nLite doesn't readd components), and that because you are re-running nLite on a resulting set of files, which you should not unless you know axactly what you do (but you call yourself "a novice" ). I believe your problem does not come from SFC but from something else you remove. +Try reading the red announcement up your screen.
  12. You better post more specifications, like the full card specs or if both screens are plugged on one dual screen card. Is it a TV like in your example ?
  13. though this would mean it's not totally fried. If I understand well, it sometimes works (or do you mean the monitor goes live again but only to BIOS ?)
  14. Some people edit the 1st post of the thread to add "[sOLVED]" after the title.
  15. Would it be legit to install that "Corporate XP PRO" on your friend's laptop ? I'm just asking. To keep him ot of trouble. He's your friend, after all.
  16. A little hint about what you've tried so far would help us help you. I've had pretty good results with this addon from Ryan's forums. This of course only if you use a french XP. edit: this addon has to be integrated with Ryan's integrator, before nLite. At least that's what I did. I first tried with nLite but results were not satisfying. If english/US, use the one Johnhc is refering to.
  17. There are loads. Search the forums for "encryption".
  18. I must say your decription ("colours run down the screen, and I am unable to use it") is not very technical. Do you suspect a virus ? Did it happen progressively ? Does it happen when you're doing intensive work? Does a restart solve the problem for an other 10 minutes? Maybe you can get into Bios and leave it there for the requested time to get sure it's not hardware.
  19. Funny, you insist on answering the wrong question when you'd seemed to set yourself on the right path . I have no time for VM tests now, this was supposed to be done for christmas (it's for my father) but I had tons of other issues. I might try later. Thanks for the hints.
  20. I first thought so but in fact you did half answer my question as it allows changing the fonts under the icons which is what I tried to achieve even if the dropdown menu I'm missing is affecting other things like fonts on the start button and the task bar, on title bars, ao. The usefull lines in your reg files are the last ones. Thanks. I still don't know where the problem comes from.
  21. Hi all, I'm installing a netbook (Samsung N130), the screen is pretty small so I think this could be a problem; there is no possibility to get big(ger) fonts in the Appearance pane of the display properties. I did NOT remove "Accessibility Options". I attached the last session for my other portable which shows the same symptom (+the netbook is in french). SP3 is integrated with nLite and all is run under XP. Is it "Windows Classic style" causing it? As well as the reason, if anyone had a solution/workaround other than the usual "reinstall" (which by the way is not a solution here ), I'd be glad to read it. Thanks. LAST_SESSION.INI

    Last Session Questions

    1) That's what the "Import" button is for. It doesn't show up, you go and get it. But normally, considering nLite is for personal use only, the file should be in your preset folder as well. 2) The new ini file is created as a whole only when the process is run on the install files, not every time you tick/untick an option. 3) As stated byJohnhc, it is risky to restart from a set of files which location contains an ini file which probably means it has already been processed by nLite. nLite is meant to be run on original files or with only Service Pack integrated. Note that there is a bug with AM/PM sorting of the ini files.

    nLite rerunning

Can you give the exact message please ? + why not post in the nLite forum ? This is not an XP problem.
  24. That is probably including files like "Setup.exe" that are meant to install the drivers the "normal" way, or sub folders that contain drivers for other OSs (2k, Vista, Win7). Be sure you have at least 1 .inf file for every device you install.
  25. Is it possible that "stuff" involved a file bigger than 4Gig and that the drive is formatted FAT32 ?
