Will Laptop HDD upgrade from 5k+ - 7k+rpm be worth it?
Ponch replied to jiewmeng's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
I've checked that few weeks ago, it seems there are lots of problems that "should have been" fixed by numerous firmware updates but from what I read in their forums, it is not perfect yet. -
Windows98SE how to install and configure 1gb RAM
Ponch replied to Ironman69's topic in Windows 9x/ME
And from the thread that says "Important/"Stickified"/Pinned Windows 95/98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME" -
Some people even have Windows 2000 Home edition. I even saw it for sale on eBay. "Genuine".
-
I guess by now it's less of a worry. TurricaN, please

nLite creates the ISO regardless of the size of the folder. Did you click the "Make Iso" button ? Some people just click "Next" by inadvertance. You can retry just that step in nLite, it changes absolutely nothing to the directory.
-
I love you.

You copied an XP to an other computer and it is there that you have the reboot problem, right ? Is it after you use nLite to integrate the SATA drivers ? (Obviously that would be the reason you post here). If yes, it is a new installation, right ? So it's not copied anymore... I'm lost here.

There have been a few cases reported of nLite closing like that, the cause has never been found I believe.
-
I guess the Dell cd is highly non standard and the part that installs all your stuff is overlooked by nLite. We had a few strange cases with Dell CDs.
-
From the very same CD ?

Well, it is what we advise you to use, so it should be. ). You want to try nLite, have questions, please read the answers, search, try and come back if problems arrise, not before they do (this is what the forum is for, we like people to get their hands dirty before they ask for help or hints).

-you can have an msi file installing (automatically) after XP install, but this is not what you want. You want to integrate your application. Check the "applications addons" subforum for CAB files that you CAN integrate via nLite (as AddOn), or how to make those CAB files. -you do not rename an exe into an ex_, you compress it (using the command "makecab" for instance). To make sure all goes well without wasting cdroms, you can test your installation (iso) using programs like VirtualBox.
-
Do you mean "using nLite, I created an iso, of an XP installation disc that includes SATA drivers for my motherboard". If yes and successfull, there is nothing to do other than boot from the CD and install XP, it should see the drive. Also to be sure, when you say "I boot from the cd", you do mean "I boot from the cd I made based on the new ISO", right? If this is not what you meant, please elaborate on what you've done exactly (and if applies, please attach, not paste, your "Last session.ini") and what your problem is, if any.

There are tons of threads about rejected keys here. Search for "invalid", "rejected", "accept"...We know of ~3 causes for rejected keys; -SP3 integrated with nLite under Vista or 7even. -that key was actually never tried with original CD (because original was automated) and poster admits it later. -key was blacklisted by Service Pack.

creating a xp booting cd
Ponch replied to sureshmicro2007's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
XP CDs are bootable. I believe your question is about creating one's own unattended install cd (starting fromp an original bootable cd). You might edit your title (1st post) to reflect that. There is a guide here. + If not in business (private use only), you can check nLite for basic unattended functions (there is an nLite forum on this board). -
Make the guide visible again ? I searched the site, guides, Windows section for 10 minutes, I couldn't find it. FinalIy had to use Google to find it!

Adobe Reader "lite" says it's 23Meg. I'm not sure what it's worth or what is removed but you can see some reviews here.
-
People have come here for their "accidentally" removed languages for years. Searching for "language" in the title, here is one of the threads (post 14) on how to readd them. I don't know if this adresses your "alternate language" problem thoug.

You definitely should be able to get a decent 1024x768 on a 15". Check if some buttons on screen (sometimes at the back of it) allow you to increase the display area.

Hi, I got an old Acer Aspire 1362 laptop that has got a QSI (that's the brand) cd/dvd combo. It's getting noisy and hesitating when writing CDs. Now, on ebay, people most the time list a very small models of compatible computers (if any) for the slim dvd writers that they sell. I just happened to get hold of a trashed Fujitsu Lifebook S7110. I realized that I could just take the DVD burner, remove some plastic, remove a converter on the connector and pop it in my Acer an burn a DVD. Test ok ! It's a NEC drive. So my question is, a part from the overall form factor and cosmetic (facade), how standard are slim optical drives ? Are some brand doing exclusively the same compatible connector ? Are some brand compatible with each other (like here NEC and QSI). Is it most the time just a matter of (external) adaptor? Or are there tons of different connectors and am I just lucky ?

You did not answer my last question. According to you, nLite doesn't really start so all the files we see on the picture come from the original cd ? Right ?
-
Well.... I would have done it without space in the folder name. Never mind. It seems nLite has difficulties getting the size of the folder. Can you right-click that folder, check Properties and see if Windows has trouble getting the total size of it as well ? +What exactly is your starting media ?
-
Try a shorter path like C:\nLiteXP\ and see if it makes any difference.
-
I've never seen any Microsoft Windows installation request "an Acronis file". I assume this is what you tell us (and not that nLite is requesting those). Can you please give us the exact message and at what steps you get it ? Also please state what media you started with. Missing files are usually caused by slipstreaming a Service Pack to a non original disc.
