  1. HP's site says Power supply - 300-watt (Merlot C) regulated
  2. Hi, I just got a old PIII out of the bin (company's room clearance, it's christmas !). I turned it on, it booted NT4, fine, I went for a coffee. When back, there was no signal on the screen anymore and it was dead. When open, I saw that all 7 capacitors are like... pregnant, with powder around. From anyone's experience, is this just the top of the iceberg or would the mobo be likely to run fine once the caps are replaced ? I mean I can get a cheap mobo on ebay if it's not worth the effort, but if the chance is 1/2, i'd give it a try. Anyone done it with success ?
  3. Before you make the ISO, modify/replace oemlogo.bmp and oeminfo.txt (or the .bm_ and .tx_).
  4. nLite removes components from XP, this is the purpose of the program. For some, it is well known they cannot be reinstalled after XP setup so you beter remove only things you are never gonna use. Check the last "sesion.ini" file on the CD you made to see if you removed WMP. +There is a nLite forum section.
  5. Gparted is a free equivalent of Partition Magic. From what I know, it is not a boot manager (I might be wrong here, or maybe you were told about "Grub" or "Lilo" instead). +If you intend to give each OS its own primary partition and for some a swap partition or common data partitions, you have a little "overcrowd"problem. "Ranish Partition Manager" can get around that but it was made long ago and I don't know if it will recognise your disk as it runs under DOS.
  6. What do you mean by "execute Win98" ? If you mean "Install", then probably yes. If you mean replacing all DOS files from Win98 by a non MS version...
  7. Are you talking about "My Computer", "IE", "Network Places" & "Recycle Bin" ? If yes, they can still be hided separately in the tweak section.

    Please help

What cd did you start with ? Have you copied the files on the root of the CD to your nLite temp directory ? +Next time, get a decent title to your thread.
  9. He might as well put the viewer on the cd, that'll save them time. Or OpenOffice... depending who has broadban.
  10. After transferring a CDRW (attached to a scsi card) to a new computer, couldn't have it to read the disc I was supposed to install the soft from, ("our new Nero version" that was handed by my colleague). Computer was very small and the big internal SCSI flat cable was quite twisted so I reopened the case and replugged everything twice before noticing the small prints on the disc. "DVD". Yeah right.
  11. After that, you also need to give yourself permissions on the files. Done it ?
  12. Your friend was probably given the advice to burn a restore disk at the time he first booted the PC. He choosed to ignore this procedure. Maybe it would help if you tell what drivers are missing. nVidia has a web page to "automatically find drivers".
  13. If it's the inverter (cheap part), you should still be able to see something, looking from very close.

You probably haven't reinstalled your specific drivers like graphic card, sound, and maybe motherboard (chipset) and CPU. You'll have to find out what model they are and install them to optimize the performances of your computer. Don't forget you need drivers "for Win98".
  15. Did you set the SATA before PATA in the boot order ?
  16. did you mean "legal" ?
  17. Thanks, I should have found this one .
  18. Hi, very silmple question; how can I know if a NIC is running 10 or 100, half or full, when it is set to "automatic" ?

  20. You don't have any older version installed and you don't have any previous version's disk, you are not entitled to use an upgrade version, that should be clear to anybody. Get a Win95 cd on ebay.

    new user screen

Enable "Skip OOBE". Note that for XP Home, you need at least one Admin user asside from "the" admin and skipping OOBE might cause problem.
  22. I'm curious here. Can you please report your findings (if one is a gigabit). If not... hubs are cheap, cross cables even cheaper. As for your hesitation, it surely won't arm trying.
  23. Have you tried hitting F10 at boot ? Or making the recovery partition active ?
  24. HP recovery from partition. For some manufacturers (Acer for instance), there is a switch in Bios to enable/disable that possibility.
