  1. Try using lockoutstatus.exe. It will help you see bad pasword counts in real-time and which DCs the account is authenticating against http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en EDIT: Another thought would be do you have any Macs in your environment using Entourage? As i know that caches credentials and is not very good at alerting you when it is using a bad password.
  2. I must say this looks very impressive and although im not great on linux although i would be very keen to give this a try. What i will do is use Spambayes and if they are unhappy with it i will propose some investigation so i can look into this and see where it leads. Thanks again for the help
  3. Excellent info, thanks Cluberti il check them all out
  4. Hi Everyone, In my spare time i am taking control of a local business as the network admin. The only problem is they want to be as cheap as they can. They have an SBS server and OEM xp boxes but everything else i would like to make opensource (And free). I will be using Clamwin AV, Open Office and Windows Defender. I am looking for an opensource Antispam solution and if possible i would like one server side and one client side. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank You
  5. Change it to this: ID - 3 Public Port From - 10011 public Port To - 10011 Port Type TCP Host IP Address - Your INTERNAL address Private Port - 10011 That should work. Unless there is a section for NAT rules on that F/W Thanks
  6. Thats your opinion and i respect that, but UAC is a long overdue feature. Windows should have had this ever since 95. It is one of the greatest security enhancements in windows in years. I can run as a standard user and yet access things that require kernel mode access with no problems i simply have to give the go-ahead. Quite brilliant if you ask me.... but thats my opinion
  7. What is the message? If you tell us we can better assist
  8. Im suprised no one has mentioned virtualisation as a solution for this
  9. Ok, i didnt know that. Thats all i can suggest then im afraid if you are using Zonealarm. We know what needs to be done but cant do it because of ZA.... Il leave it with you
  10. Hi everyone, I was just on my computer, running 2 VM's a few apps and a video and whilst changing the Screen resolution in a VM and switching to full screen i got a nice blue screen with Nvlddmkm.sys named as the culprit. I am so fed up with NVidia's crappy drivers. What should i do with this? Should i report it to anyone? If anyone can suggest who i can moan to about this i will, because i dont know about you guys but when i spend over a £100 on a graphics card alone i expect the drivers to have been written properly! Thanks
  11. you need to allow ports 137-139 i believe for print sharing through a firewall. Thanks EDIT: that should be 137-139 TCP
  12. If you get network path not found try \\IP\Printer instead of \\Name\printer and see if it works
  13. Put them both on a workgroup and creating a matching account, with a matching password on both machines. That should work. Thanks
  14. 32 bit applications have a maximum virtual memory size of 2GB, or 3GB with Physical address extension, So yes you are probably correct in that the 32bit apps are failing because they are hitting a resource limit.
  15. If anyone has ever had the fortune of watching the sysinternals DVDs, if i remember correctly there is an excellent explanation of prefectch.
  16. Hi everyone, Im 'speccing' a new computer for someone and would like some advice if possible. Would everyone agree that the P45 chipset is better than ip35? Thanks EDIT: Nevermind, iv just read that IP35 is the predecessor to P45, Thanks Anyway
  17. I spend the most on storage. I have loads of VM's and stuff, my entire life and my familys life in digital format and lots of movies and stuff. You can never have enough storage.
  18. Talk us through the boot process, at what point does it fail? Thanks
  19. Try checking over the DNS settings of the machine as suggested, make sure you can resolve the FQDN of the server. For example Server.Domain.Com 95% of domain joining problems i have seen are DNS related. Good luck
  20. usually when it doesnt work i just type regsvr32 wups2.dll at run and it works most of the time
  21. Looks good! iv been meaning to test WDS with an ipv6 DHCP server for sometime so il follow your guide through as i do this and let you know if there are any errors Cheers
  22. As far as compatability goes, those Os versions should play nice; however since you have a workgroup environment you need to check a few things: 1) Both machines are on the same workgroup 2) Simple file sharing is OFF 3) you have a matching account with matching credentials on both computers (unless you dont mind authenticating everytime you connect from one to the other) Research these things and see what you can do. If you are stuck feel free to ask again Thanks
