  1. Have you tried creating another user and logging in as them?
  2. Can you ping the server by its name? Can you ping the server by its IP? Also check that the subnet you are coming from does not have the same IP range as the subnet the server is on, as this would cause that sort of behaviour too.
  3. Excellent, glad you resolved it!
  4. Check if there is a newer driver for your audio controller, install it and then try Sp3.
  5. iv never seen that before to be honest. There clearly is no syntax error there. have you googled this paticular error? Thanks
  6. ok try: helo test.com mail from: test@test.com and see if it gets any further
  7. what if you just type "helo" instead of helo 192.168.1.4? surely its failing because you are saying i am domain"192.168.1.4" but thats not where the mail from: command is showing
  8. so if you telnet to ip on port 25 what happens when you type the mail from: command? what happens on rcpt to:? (if it gets that far?) have you tried internal telnet as well as external? Also is the box running exchange?, if so do you have your domain listed in the recipient policy? Thanks
  9. Oh, i see so i do have a good model then, Thank you for the detailed explanation Crahak.
  10. Not to be contradictory, but definitely NOT!!!!!!! G=crippled GS=nearly as bad The old G versions like you probably have were good (e.g. v4) but now they're crippled. The current versions (v8.x) are a pain to flash (using vxworks killer, and you must upload firmware via tftp), and have so little memory that Tomato won't even run on it, only the micro builds of DD-WRT will (they only got 2MB of flash), and even then... You can't replace the antennas on the G either. You most definitely want the GL version, which is exactly the same as the old G before it started sucking. I have a WRT54G Ver2 and it is perfect. There is a LOT of traffic passing through it. 100 Gig a month sometimes and its absolutely fine. I dont know what bad experiences you have had with them but i love mine lol
  11. If i had to recommend another router i too would say a WRT54G with Tomato firmware. Iv been running mine now for a long time and it never fails and the configurability of it is nothing short of amazing for a home class router. However if you are happy enough to just get a replacement from Zyxel then do that. Its up to you.
  12. Try a firmware upgrade and see if it helps, although it sounds as if it is faulty
  13. true it wouldnt but something like a firmware upgrade may fix that. I think he should do a line test, otherwise its just another unknown variable to deal with
  14. Download "Devcon" and use the following (in a batch file) to get you started net start "avast service name1" net start "avast service name2" net start "avast service name3" devcon disable "hardware ID" where hardware ID is found in device manager under network adapters and service name is the name of the avast services. This is the "start" script. change start for stop and disable for enable and you have your stop script Hope this helps
  15. Call your ISP and say "I have an intermittent connection problem, please can you perform a test on the line". They will and if it is faulty they will replace it. Otherwise the problem is more as Crahak describes it. Thanks
  16. you need to allow port 110 outbound on Zone Alarm. This will allow you to communicate with the pop3 server and download your mail
  17. Hmmm, sounds like you have 2 pieces of software trying to manage your wireless connection. One will be the windows software and the other will be a piece of third-party software. If this is the case then do the following: 1) open the third party software and find somewhere in it a tick box that says "use windows wireless Zero configuration" or something similar. This should disable the 3rd party software and enable the windows one. 2)Once that is done find the icon on the right of the taskbar that looks like a computer with radio waves coming out of it and right click "show available wireless networks" 3) You should see your network in there. If you dont or any of the information i have posted is incorrect then let me know Thank you
  18. Boot off a live cd such as Bart PE or winternals ERD commander and scan your drive for viruses and malware accross the network if possible, or take the drive out and put it in another pc and scan it that way
  19. can you give your self a static address similar to the others on the network? if the others are for example 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 can you give yourself 192.168.1.3 and the exact same subnet mask, default gateway and DNS entries and it should work fine. you will be able to configure these properties as twig described above good luck!
  20. I just assumed you made a typo, but twig is right if it really is 169.251 then it must be static. And i didnt notice it said local area connection so well spotted!
  21. Ok, this means you are not able to contact a DHCP server to obtain an address, perhaps you are not connected to the wireless network at all. Have you tried running the wireless network setup wizard on a working machine and transfering the settings over to this one?
  22. just ipconfig on its own, what address does it show? im thinking it will show a 169.254.x.x but i want to be sure.
  23. when you do an ipconfig on the machine what IP address does it show?
  24. Also if you dont use SNMP on your network disable it on the printer port on the server. The changes in to SNMP in R2 make it such a pain when the printer constantly shows as "offline" or "out of paper"
