  1. What is the easiest way to tell if your HD is unrepairable? I have win XP home with SP2. When the pc starts up it only gets to the first screen and starts looking for the ide drives. It doesn't find my hard drive. This pc has been working for 2 years and I put it together. In dos the C drive has no files on it except the ones installed with a dos startup disk.
  2. Well, I solved my problem the hard way. I formatted my hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Win XP PRO. Now I can share files and everything works fine. I have loaded all the same programs as before, one at a time. I still don't know why file sharing didn't work before. Thanks for all your help!
  3. I have reg file types listed to be open with reg editor. I think I can import your file, but where it will go and what it will do to other files is unknown to me.
  4. I re-installed Windows about a 10 days ago to see if it would correct my problem, but it didn't. When I do this it is very time consuming because I have to reload SP2 and all the Windows updates since 2002. Everything else works just fine on my computer, except sharing my files. I really appreciate everyones help! Thanks again! I will keep on trying!
  5. This popup scares me. I don't know what it means.
  6. I get the same error message which says it must be imported from inside the registry editor. I can open the editor but I don't know where to put this file.
  7. I created a txt file by copying and pasting into notepad and renamed it "simple file sharing.reg" I got this error message.
  8. I have scrolled to the bottom of "advanced settings", in the "view" tab of "folder options" but it isn't there. I have also checked the "general", and "file Types" tabs. I have searched my computer, and "Help and support" for "Simple File sharing", but there is no mention of it at all. I have a version 2002 of win XP home OS with SP2 and all the latest updates. i tried to upload a photo of my folder options screen, but it was too large.. I tried a screen shot, but it didn't work. Sorry.
  9. Neither computer has the "simple file sharing" option under the view tab in folder options. I tried a screen shot, to show you, but it didn't work.
  10. I don't know how to find "simple file sharing".
  11. I have turned off the firewall, but it didn,t help. I am using only windows firewall and it allows file sharing in the exceptions. I searched for any other firewall files, but none came up. Thanks for trying to help.
  12. I have a home network with 2 pc's cabled to a linksys router Wrt54g. Then the router is cabled to an Arris telephony modem to connect to the internet. Both pc's have win XP with SP2. Dewey can access Dotty's files, but Dotty can only access Dewey's files when Dewey is in safe mode. I have tried shutting down processes and services on Dewey that don't run in safe mode but this didn't help. Dotty can see Dewey in her workgroup, but gets "access denied- see administrator for permission" message. Hope someone can help. I have run out of ideas.
