  1. Check out "Hey, Scripting Guy"... http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcen...05/hey0516.mspx -John
  2. I have heard people complain about reiser4 stability. Ext3 is supposed to be the most stable & robust, but probably not as fast as some of the others. Also, why are people talking about this anyway? Is there a way to run XP or 2003 using XFS or Ext3? -John
  3. Where at? I would spend this amount for Ghost. -John
  4. This might work for you, but I'm not really sure. It may be worth a look... Microsoft's Shared Computer Toolkit -John
  5. You could try the Bootvis Tool -John
  6. Try UltraVNC and make sure to install the Video Hook Driver add-on. The speed is just as good as Remote Desktop, plus you have file transfer capability. http://ultravnc.com/ -John
  7. I did not change it yesterday. Maybe it is a software bug. -John
  8. A few days ago when I clicked on a topic, I would see the 1st post and all replies. Today, I only see the 1st post. All replies show up as links at the bottom of the page (threaded). How do I revert back to the old way? Thanks, -John Nevermind. I just found it.... Options -> Display Mode -> Standard. -John

    rescue cd

Hey guys, BartPE is old news. The "Ultimate BootCD 4 Windows" (UBCD4WIN) is the now way to go these days... http://www.ubcd4win.com/ It totally blows BartPE away. It includes Firefox, virus scanners, adware removal tools, vnc, remote desktop, password recovery/reset, cd burning software and much more. I think it also includes the Ghost plugin (if you own a copy of Ghost). When you build the CD, I'd recommend installing the additonal driver pack. -John
  10. I would like to suggest Foxit PDF reader and Avast Antivirus. -John
  11. You can also try Ultimate Boot CD 4 Windows. It has many tools including password recovery, antivirus, spyware removal tools, web browser, etc. Best of all, it is free. -John
  12. Rar does indeed compress more than Zip. But, you can open a Zip file on XP w/o having to have any extra software. The Rar algorithm is much newer than Zip (by years & years) so that would help explain why it compresses better. Rar also compresses multiple files at once (called 'solid') while Zip only compresses each file individually. This also helps Rar to compress better. -John
  13. UltraVNC, especially with their Video Hook Driver. Also SingleClick (SC) rocks. It is great for supporting remote users. They also have a very good, active user forum, too. -John
  14. OMG, this program is totally awesome. It is going to save me so much time. Instead of having to upgrade 100+ computers from SAV 10.0.0 to 10.0.1, I can just use this instead. I have put it in a group policy and it will be pushed out tomorrow morning when all of the computers are turned back on. Thanks! -John
  15. You could try reinstalling SP2. -John
  16. Go to each of your file servers and right click My Computer and then click Manage. In Computer Mgmt, double click Shared Folders on the left. Under this, Shares, Sessions, & Open Files will give you the information that you need. -John
  17. Do you run Symantec Antivirus 10? We experienced the same problem with this software. Upgrading to 10.0.1 solved the problem. -John
  18. Would you consider adding UltraVNC? -John
  19. What tools did you use to accomplish this? Something like ResHacker? -John
  20. I am looking forward to the release as well. About how many people do you have beta testing it? -John
  21. vci, How can you tell which DLLs are needed? Is there a way to get a list or do you keep trying to run the program, get a missing DLL error message, add the DLL, then repeat this cycle until the program runs? -John
  22. If you have access to another PC (like a friends), you can create an Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. With this, you boot a full version of Windows XP from CD-Rom. You could then copy over the ntdetect.com file from CD or floppy. UBCD4Win also has antivirus programs and spyware removal tools. Good luck, -John
  23. I am also looking for some mp3 software. Right now my collection uses high quality settings, such as 384 VBR, Joint Stero, etc. This makes the files in the 5 to 7 MB range. I am looking for a program to "resample" these to a lower bitrate and/or quality. This way, I can put more songs onto my Palm handheld. My space on it is limited so I am willing to sacrifice quality for quanity. -John
  24. Before giving up on this, try using BartPE. Create your boot CD from a Windows 2003 CD (possibly slipstreaming SP1??). If your adapter is supported by Win 2003 out of the box, then you will be able to see your array and perform a restore. I have actually done this with Ghost 8 on a Dell PowerEdge with a PERC 4 RAID adapter. Good luck, -John
  25. You could try Unison for two way syncronization or cwRsync for one way. Both programs are free. -John
