  1. Attempts have been made (I helped with one) but results are far from reliable. I believe that most folks in the codec community will tell you to stick with the Alternative.
  2. The general populace likes the term hacker. It is ingrained now. It could be changed, but not likely to something that is popularly used as a racial slur (cracker). It confuses people, and most don't care enough to make a distinction.
  3. Some neat pics on there Just curious, why would a photographer pick DA over Flickr or vice verse?
  4. I would enjoy a standing workspace. For a while, at least Maybe I'll try just VNCing to my workstation from my laptop while it is in a spot that makes standing convenient.
  5. http://dellzrtrash.deviantart.com works better, but...
  6. Most people on MSFN are savvy and agree on that general definition. But, in my experience, the general public still considers "hacker" a negative term (the bad guys / crackers).
  7. Wireshark has never failed me
  8. Are you still around? Some of the links from your page are causing us, and your users, a bit of trouble. We'd like to coordinate with you to get this fixed.
  9. http://www.justoneclubcard.com/ This is a neat service that combines all of your barcodes into one wallet-sized card. Found via http://probargainhunter.com/2007/03/10/sli...-rewards-cards/ I/we have no affiliation with the site, just thought it was neat.
  10. Cnet has an article about a soon-to-be-released sniffer called Ferret that may compete with Wireshark. Wireshark does an amazing job so I'm wondering how the proposed features will help Ferret stack up against the champ. It appears to be free and open source. http://news.com.com/Your+Wi-Fi+can+tell+pe..._3-6163666.html
  11. I also recently found these awards, and thought I'd share. (Not exactly the same stuff.) http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/pro...ayr2007,00.html
  12. We often get people in here asking about bandwidith limiting/monitoring, but I haven't seen this program discussed. Does anyone have experience with it? http://bandwidthcontroller.com/index.html
  13. Lifehacker has a neat article on customizing Word. Nothing terribly new, but some may find it useful. http://www.lifehacker.com/software/word/al...ying-244859.php
  14. You should be able to change it once you reach 15 posts.
  15. I had this option as normal 'member' /me looks at Martin
  16. Sure hope so! Welcome
  17. My Controls -> Edit Profile Information -> Custom member title

    hi all

    Welcome
  19. @pS: Your screenies make me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. @Dagonet: LOL
  20. Some people like to make their temp/swap run as RAM disk.
  21. Not "out of the box" but I see instructions in this search.
  22. Maybe you'd be happy with one of the portable versions of Firefox that doesn't save any cookie information? ROFL! We'll see about getting that fixed. Thanks for pointing it out
  23. No idea...and there is nothing in the tags to help The web page that leads you to that file doesn't help?
  24. Don't professional photographers use those devices? Perhaps you could swing by a photo shop and ask really nicely?
  25. I'm excited, but am waiting to hear some ground truth from users who buy these files.
