  1. This computer has had Proxomitron running every day for 6 years and never once displayed the Windows 98 user agent. Yeah you two are right, that percenage of TOTAL 98/ME users isn't really so accuracy. When I used KUP for example to make FireFox 3 run, I wasn't displayed as Win98 , it was displayed as unknown OS, that's because you have to change the OS which the program your using is supposed to think you are using. For Example you set the OS to Windows 2000 in the KUPVER.INI to run FireFox 3 so you won't even be listed in the Web as Win98 althought it's an Win98SE system you are running. The numbers might be higher than stated, when people use KUP but I think the numbers are still shrinking althought there may be some shown not anymore as 98 but "unknown" instead. That's only a small part of the total 9x users. I think we 9x users are shrinking but there are still more systems using 9x than official are told(even not all use the internet).
  2. Nope. The Win98 system which is used by grandparents for internet now also got infected some weaks ago by some kind of trojan/virus. Windows 2000 was installed later then, but with IE5 which really sucks. We can only bundle and use the Windows 2000 made IE6 SP1 updates which also run on 98 if we want to have an as save as possible Windows98 (SE). Or surf the web with non IE. I also wanted to compile new IE6 SP1 Cummulative updates for japanese version if I had time, because many visitors are also japanes on the website from x-mas. But I've got less time . So I've not even got time to check the newest one for my system yet. Well I can't find a reason for the high shrinking of visits except maybe people which came into the crisis now stopped using 98 or don't have the time anymore to look for updates on 9x systems, maybe thats a reason.
  3. Hello I'm very concerned about the number of Win98 users visiting the website of the Windows 98 Upgrade Pack (http://bpa23.host.sk/wupg.html) I mean sure theres a world wide crisis since Autum 2008 but I think Windows 98 systems would rather not fall in the category of an victim of the crisis. Sure this didn't hapen the first time that the number of visitors shrinked drastically like from January 2008 to February 2008 where over 1000 visitors where lost (but that was because of the unavailability of the old domain www.wupg98.co1.at which doesn't exist anymore) in that time it was logical that the missing domain which everyone knew but didn't exist anymore lead to these visitor loses. The real global problem are the user shrinkings since autum 2008. The dropping visitor figure cannot be found logically by missing links of websites. SO DID ANYONE else notice shrinking visitor figures (maybe 98 users are much less than before?) ??? Or was it maybe just a website marketing mistake done Here you see the figures I mean: Statistics 2008 of the Upgrade Pack Website Jan 1339 Feb 273 (www.wupg98.co1.at is unavailable 70% of all visitors normally used the now missing link) Mar 521 (some visitors recovered through links on http://www.mdgx.com/ and the new http://www.w98upg.net.tf domain) Apr 656 May 510 Jun 762 (high point since february collapse) Jul 677 Aug 669 Sep 631 Oct 277 (ok the visitors shrinked quite that can happen sometimes) Nov 98 (but what's happening now?!!!) 4. KernelEx can be installed seperate after the Setup, it is in C:\wupg\KernelEx036 But it would be better first to uninstall it, then install WUPG, and then reinstall KernelEx from the folder (so that the functions are available in the newest version). EASIEST is: FIRST WUPG98 gets installed (Kernel32.dll is 4.10.2224, so if your's is lower, the file gets replaced and KernelEx functions must be readded), then afterward KernelEx ( so the new Kernel32 gets the KernelEX functions). And thats it. There is no other thing, to check before unistalling. KernelEx should anyway be installed after any unofficial SP, Upgrade Pack etc which updates the Kernel32.dll file, as last! So you would need to unistall it first, befor you install the WUPG98, if you want to use the KernelEX functions afterwards still.
  5. Ok, I added it right now. Yeah very big thank you to you, that skin is really great!

  8. Because the system needs less files and so the OS installs faster than Win2k,XP.... And I can run Win98SE very fast with 256 MB RAM, if it crashes I'm Immedietly on the Desktop again, on XP I need to wait many minutes ... Also because my old Win98 computer had never to be installed again later when I knew 98 very well. Thought the old machine was made irreperable later by breaking the bios battery slot.... The good things are u still get updates 4 Internet Explorer 6 and they can be installed on WIn98SE and that IE6,WMP9, and DirectX 9.0c are all running on Win98. Since KernelEX there comes also many movement, as now FireFox 3 also can run 98 over KernelEX. To finish in a sentence, many of the common used progs are capable to run Win98 so why run XP or Vista with 256 MB RAM, you loose speed.
  9. You could try the Upgrade Pack for Windows 98. http://www.bpa23.host.sk/wupg.html (by time also the newest IE6 cumulative updates are available for download) But the question is, if you are using IE 6, WMP 9.0 DirectX 9.0c...all the newer progs or just the common pre installed IE 5.0 and so on? If you're using the program versions up there I think WUPG98 could be a soultion. In that situation you might check if a new cumulative Internet Explorer 6 update is available to install on 98SE, you should check what the newest is. But in fact for IE 6 security updates come out very often. Check the forum for further announcements or info.
  10. Yes, officialy FF 3.0 doesn't work with Win98/ME but if you install KernelEx you can run it. Err...are you sure? I tried it once, but FireFox 3 couldn't be started. Although even Photoshop CS2 can be installed through KernelEX, but it just doesn't start!
  11. Just found out that on this site: http://www.firewallguide.com/software.htm You still find few amount of FW-Software suppport Windows 98. For example: Look 'n' Stop Firewall 2.06 (http://www.looknstop.com/En/index2.htm) Well so it doesn't look so bad anymore with security on Windows 98, did it ever?
  12. THX for the info. I'll try that now and tell if I'm successfull . Edit: Well December 06 and November 07 did work but March 08 still shows the same error message.
  13. No idea why the say about GoldWave "Windows NT/95/98 are not supported and will not work (please download v4.26 instead). " GoldWave v5.23 works fine on Windows 98, don't know if it KernelEX is the reason, but it works!
  14. So recently I tried to install the newest "DirectX End-User Runtimes (March 2008)" . I could install the pack but furthermore it wasn't even displayed why it couldn't be installed. It didn't say non compatbile with Windows 98/ME althought only systems since Win 2000 are listed in the downloads so I just wonder why no message comes up whats wrong. Any ideas what to change? Yah the download file is: directx_mar2008_redist.exe
  15. And a second try..... What is the name of the programm to get Vista Icons and Start menu? Thanks in advance.
  16. Err.... guys were do you got the Vista Skins (Start menu and all the Vista icons and so on...) from? Can someone tell me, lol I'm kinda not up2date. I've only got this Windows Media Player 11 skin so far but it's cool. That sidebar is great btw.
  17. LOL, yes it seems to be the same. I didn't see that over all these topics. But nevertheless I produced something. And who needs it in german, can now download the german version there.
  18. Hey, hey guys the Internet Explorer 6 Update KB944533 (February 2008 Patchday) is now available for Windows 98SE! It should probably also work on ME. I finished it today. English http://files.filefront.com/IE60sp1+KB94453...;/fileinfo.html German: http://files.filefront.com/IE60sp1+KB94453...;/fileinfo.html

    ie6 on 95

Yeah, lol "it makes no sense"...that's really the Chewbacca defense like in Southpark *g*. It does make sense, to show if Microsoft is only dropping support on older systems that would still run. Maybe "Changing windows version with regedit" using Orca could help? http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...&pid=568281 @NoNameNeeded Heast euda, were just making fun!
  20. Is there a way, getting the Hibernate Mode working on Windows 98SE? I know it would be better to use Standby but I just wonder why it was possible on my Windows ME that was installed on the same pc like Windows 98.
  21. Oh, can somebody mention the Software versions that work on using KernelEx, I think Adobe Photshop CS does or?
  22. Can these NT/XP guys try stopping to tell that it's not good to use 98/ME. You can write much longer negative text but nobody will read it. Please let it in peace.
  23. These could be names that include what the pack does: Changer Pack 98FE (CP98FE) Tranformation Package for 98 First Edition (TP98) 98FE Upgrader (98FEUPG)
