BOOT.INI switches location, in SETUP files
Alanoll replied to Alanoll's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
that would work if multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3) were constant on all my systems (same disc, 4 systems, EACH different in almost everyway) However, for those with just one system and want to remove something. -

BOOT.INI switches location, in SETUP files
Alanoll posted a topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Now, before ANYONE says they're located in BOOT.INI in %systemdrive%, I already know that This question is geared more towards those who have delved into the inner workings of the XP setup, and you know who you are.... Any idea where SETUP stores/generates the switches for BOOT.INI? I'm looking to either change/remove the /NoExecute switch and replace it with /Execute (disabling DEP in essence). Bootcfg.exe can't do it, and I could pipe the text out via ECHO in a batch, but then Windows would have to be installed on the same partition on EVERY computer (not gonna happen) -
@gabriel_buc Is this YOUR file I found on another post (not by you)? I ask because it is quite lengthy and documented on what most of the things do. If it is, fantastic job. As for the monstrosity of a thread, does anyone want to start a new one? Comb through this thread, document each tweak and post in a new topic? Also, I don't know waht you people are talking about, I only show 29 pages On a side note, anyone know of the registry to turn off that annoying check on downloaded files? The one that asks, "are you sure you want to run this?" ALL_regtweaks_msfn.zip

oh, I'm sure it's pretty simple..... but tell me exactly where you're talking about (in the settings). It would most likely be yet another switch in the end to activate or not, but I'm just nto sure what you're talking about.

%SETUPFILES% is explained by the lin just up from the winnt32 command. I:\I386, The path to your setup files (the I386 folder) /copysource:lang , no idea, but perhaps copies over the LANG folder.

SP2 Unattend working in final release?
Alanoll replied to rattler's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
expand netfw.in_ from teh SP2 network install. (I'm assuming you've already extracted teh 200 meg file to it's components). There is a docuemnt on teh Microsof tservers on how to add entries for what you want (trusted sites and settings) Go to the MSFN main page, and go to search >> Firewall (i'll put a link in a sec). http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en when done modifying it, makecab netfw.inf As far as I'm aware, the original SP1a executable had NO /unattend either. It uses teh simple update.exe file, with teh typicaly switches to mke it silent ( /N /Z /O /Q or some such /? for more info). That will install SP2 and use your settings from netfw.inf taht you specify. -
@IceBlackIce I believe there is a reason WIHU has it's own forum now...
-
If you're running a previous build other then the RTM, just turn on Automatic Updates. It was released to AU yesterday for those with a pre-final build.

just open up the original XP disc in an ISO editor (WinISO, UltraISO) or whatever, extract the boot sector (Microsoft Corporation.img) and rename if you wish to XP.dat or whatever, and use that. Alternately, you could download from teh final page unattended.msfn.org the ISO creator, and just yank it's boot sector out and use it (probally faster)

any programs to add users and groups?
Alanoll replied to Dustinwmew's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@prathapml He said he didn't want to do the typing manually. @Dustinwmew As pointed out before, WIHU can work for you. It has a INI file that you can specify as MANY users you want created and in whatever groups. -
I really never saw what the big deal is with the catalyst drivers. I NEVER had a problem with them. I have two versions of them on my disc (normal and mobility) and still don't have a problem. But on a lighter note, I do like your avatar. Gotta love Office Space

Setup keeps giving me an error about SP2.CAB being corrupted
Alanoll replied to cxxxkies's topic in Windows XP
did you overwrite the SP2 txtsetup.sif with the SP1a thinking it would work fine? Try reslipstreaming from a clean source, that's unmodified (GOLD or SP1a) with no Unattend/Hotfix anything. -
Just thought a welcoming would be appropriate. @GM I hope your happy

and I'm just curious if anyone has tried to glean off the whatever special files Tablet/Media Center have to install the framework, and see if those work in the normal version.

Gosh's Unattended Tips And Tricks
Alanoll replied to gosh's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
or you could use the generic WIN51 file if you don't want to change it with each new service pack. But yes, that's correct. -
How? Using your own program. XPlode doesn't have built in functionality for that (atleast last I saw) What's the command line? (all I now for Xplode is from this forum... spare me) /xml:%PATHTOXML%\xml2.xml As for changing the images, you CAN change the images inside teh colour tags, but you have to do it on a per XML basis, and can't be changed from within XPlode. You just need to have your own image, and just tell it that path.

AUTOPATCHER - a great utility !
Alanoll replied to ironman's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
SO I take it NO ONE searches anymore? This has been discussed, and a simple search just now for "hotfix install" brought up a few of them. I closed this thread, but then reconsidered and re-opened it. Don't let it turn into the last thread, where it stayed close. -
that's not all you have to do... You either have to find a way to open the FOnts folder and close it, or you have to import some registry entries when copying. Otherwise Windows won't know there are fonts.

Just uploaded new MSI at 05:12 GMT (11:12 PM local)

you could try replacing you hacked file with the original. Could just be the tiny difference between the files, and XP doesn't know what's wrong.
