  1. Don't have Office 2010 but this implies that you must set a "compatibility mode" (somewhere).
  2. (-removed-) so's let them figure it out from there... c-ya!
  3. ...as soon as I have funds I intend to - cheap at the price. may have to get an addy to send to (a M.O. maybe) as no credit cards etc. bankrupt. (sry). the "shimmery" is what's removed. the other ads are still there; just can't stand the "shimmery" pop-up when mouse-over. ignore ads generally anyhow since not interested (bankrupt). don't get upset - others use what's called "(removed)" (whatever that is). (sheesh!)
  4. Yep... Firefox (not IE) and (-removed-) Add-on... This is not a "site issue", BTW...
  5. Again, NET and IE8 are not "Hotfixes" (you list NET in the first list you give - NOT to be Hotfix Integrated). These are more like "add-ons" (like Media Player 11). This is what the "other slipstream methods" refer to. Basic "slipstream" is XP-Only SP's and Hotfixes, all else is kind of "add-on". Note that even AutoPatcher-dot-com provides these items separately from XP-Only (except IE8, since AutoPatcher is strictly After-Initial-Install Updates)...As for IE8 (a different "beast"), I haven't any idea how to change your "Customized" for integration. Integrating IE8 requires further knowledge of the package - there's some topics on "how it was done" and an "Add-On Package" available (sans "customization"). You'll probably have to search MSFN for the info/package. You might be able to "alter" the package or use the package as a "guide" for how to install your "customized" version as an Add-On. Browse the Add-On sub-forum to get the idea... edit - Correction - here dotNet here a smidgen of IE8 help here
  6. Maybe change title to "Solved - Windows 98/98SE System Restore" + "How To From Windows ME CD"? Would make it "glare out" at "surfers"...
  7. FWIW, it appears to be some kind of OEM "Recovery CD", in which case the Recovery is using Vista-style Boot for OEM Recovery/Restore options (some have done that, e.g. Acer). Your "procedure" to "make work" probably close to correct. Hope everything is included in that I386 folder (sometimes not...).
  8. SATA sets SATA mode vs EIDE/PATA ("old" HDD interface") Mode
  9. 1a - No, but certain updates might need to be installed first1b - More than HotFixes can be integrated and other methods are available Take a look at what MS is listing - more than just "standard HotFixes" (including IE8) Both dotNet and IE8 have a different way of "integrating". These are not "HotFixes" so more you need to do more research on the "Complicated Ways".Browse the nLite and Unattended Stickies...

    slipstream sp3

1 - Run nLite 2 - Point nLite to your CD as Source 3 - Point nLite to the SP3.EXE (select it) - that means Click on the EXE then say "OK" (note - nLite is just "browsing", not "selecting" - you have to select that single file to be processed/"opened" by nLite) 4 - proceed to select either "make the ISO" and/or "burn CD" (I believe that two options are there...) (IOW, "do it"/Next/Process/whatever) The filesize and name "jive" (IOW, correct). Apparently, you downloaded to DeskTop instead of (usually) My Documents. Additionally, you have all of the Default Explorer settings, hence not seeing the EXE (maybe?). You've misunderstood, that's all. BTW, all of this info is in the nLite documentation - I suggest you read it for more integration and settings options. Recommend don't remove anything until you get the hang.
  11. Thanx for finding that (sounds familiar...). Will give it a try. However the following still stands - IOW, LP/Tape/Live->WAV first since they're Analog Input. CD's are already pre-mastered Digitally-converted uncompressed WAV then "chop"(edit)/convert to MP3/whatever.(p.s. Arrggh, matey, I bee Sound Engineer! ) Seriously, look it up....
  12. Won't swear to this but I think if Fast User Switching is enabled then AutoLogon won't work. Microsoft states that CTL+ALT+DEL must also be disabled.
  13. Agreed! <--- (note the avatar and member name) Besides being able to eliminate noise/pop/badEQ/levels... BTW, WAV is strictly the way to go (closest to analog you'll get)! If they're MP3's/other ("lossy compression"), convert first.
  14. Sorry, you've lost me. Do you want me to run those commands? For what? Also, I have my installation disk, just no working CD to run it on.No longer relevant, so don't bother. The point was to determine the method Compaq used to create the initial C-Drive Image (ZIP files or PQI files). Yours (based on the screen shot) appears to be PQI (maybe). The DATA\EN subfolder would have contained several files having the image and there's a method (worst case scenario) to restore from them provided you have a method to boot and run a "special command". Possible to "set up" the D-drive for that but best to stick with Compaq's Restore feature.Warning! using Compaq's "User Data Backup" feature will write Images to the D-drive, thus filling it up. I recommend NOT using it! Glad you're fixed! ...and you're welcome from all of us!
  15. Just the Folder Contents, not necessarily the whole folder... AutoUpdates is a 2-step (?) process - 1 - Download to that folder and "expand" to sub-folders the Update file(s) 2 - Install from the sub-folders and store 2a - the Uninstall "backup" (previous files "replaced") info in various $NTUninstallxxx folders 2b - the Hotfix install (for tracking) to $HF_MIG$ folder (ref. here) Item 1 (contents, not the Folder) are safe to delete Item(s) 2a, if deleted, will prevent you from uninstalling a given Update Item(s) 2b, if deleted, may/will cause a cross-module (i.e. erroneous) future install Not exactly positive about #2a-b and not really sure if the Folder will be recreated (if deleted) but positive about the Contents (safe to delete). Warning (to be safe)! Best to turn off AutoUpdates first and be sure no Updates are actively installing, delete, then turn updates back on (if you wish). Note - If your original install is pre-SP3, then another folder(s) is created containing the Service Pack(s) and should also be left alone... kind of becomes "part of the original install".
  16. Um, the "System Restore" installation does no good unless done before the problem occurs. The problem the poster refers to is "Compaq Recovery from D-Partition - how-to without CD/Floppy". One of ye olde "no recovery CD" problems. Not the topic... Followup- command from DOS prompt = DIR D: /S /ONG > C:\!D-DIR.TXT Get it transferred (somehow) and attached here to look over.
  17. Also not what you were looking for and also not for Win2K, but a search yields older versions which might work. Auslogics Duplicate File Finder
  18. I don't know what they're talking about above with system restore. On my 98 system it relates to Compaq System Restore, which is actually a recovery program designed to restore a system from the OS files on a separate drive partition (D).If possible, could you list the folders/files in the Recovery Partition? There may be a way, however no Floppy/CD-Rom presents a problem, though...Reason for listing request - "tricking" recovery on these PC's with this OS depends on how the Recover Image was initially created (ZIP, Compaq-Specialized PQ Drive Image, etc.). Danced through two (98FE Laptop and 98SE Desktop) so far...
  19. Not really sure if the FE Key will work on the SE CD (maybe? haven't tried lately). I think they use the same method of Product ID generation... Got a spare HDD (500mb or larger) to try it on before "wiping" the HDD with FE on it? Win95 won't help installing FE/SE since they're OEM (not Upgrades) - clean installs only.
  20. Might I suggest trying (if you haven't already) installing the Full SP3 (not the Windows Update one)? Go to MS, find it, download it (size=272mb), run it. There's a number of files related to Fax (including one named "faxpatch.exe") in it - maybe this is the problem?
  21. Um, hate to say this (here goes! be gentle...) - If you burn a CD on a PC (even creating a "real" CD, e.g. WAV files), they may or may not play on a "home player" (e.g. Kenwood) but should always play on a PC. Unless that "player" is pretty darn new. We have a Panasonic DVD player (2 yrs old) hooked up to the stereo and it even has a tendency to "stutter" when playing "burned" CD's (either CD-DATA or CD-Music at 16x - haven't burned one slower yet to try - need to use "older" burner and "slower" CD-R's to try). Heck, may even work better with "older" CD-R rated at specific speeds (i.e. not Multi-Speed "newer"). Alternative is to get an MP3-rated player (they make "portables" too - Sound Engineer friend payed $$$ for his "gigging") and load it up with MP3's or just use CD's... if it'll play burned MP3's, it'll play burned Standard Music CD-s. Sorry, fact of life...
  22. You're referring to R2, correct?
  23. One can assume from this that any drivers can be inserted (just an assumption which could be wrong).
  24. DELL, HP, ACER and wich keyboard HP, Microsoft?????Which yours???First the filename is LASTSESSION.INI (please attach it to your next post).Second, please answer question about PC - Make (who made it e.g. HP, DELL, which?) and Model (e.g. Pavilion made by HP). No one can help if these things are not done or known. err... sorry (see next post) - different x-Lite.
  25. AFAIK, i440BX/ZX has a BIOS limitation for HDD size well below 137gb. Google "rainbow i440bx" - there's sometimes a "patch" to allow up to the designated limit . Get your full BIOS-id and check it out here. I've used these patched BIOS' on a number of older PC's and they've worked fine.
