  1. I believe that nLite has a little heartburn using Direct Integration. Hence the suggestion to use "booogie" first. AFAIKR, the reason I chose the other method was to "override" some "defaults" at first-use. Now for your Original Configuration - http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/Index?c=us&s=dhs&cs=19&l=en&t=system "G00011Card, Graphics, 128MB NV34, Dimension, 2nd" nVidia GeForce FX5200 - http://www.digital-daily.com/video/nvidia-nv34/ With TV-Out (an extra "connector" in addition to VGA Monitor on the card) - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=NV-P118-BP You might want to get the Catalyst drivers directly from nVidia. I use an MX440 Dual-Head, so depending on which version you have... Please note that the Catalyst Software is MORE than just the Drivers. I suppose you could just go with the Dell ones - unRar and point to NVDD.INF... they should work fine (maybe not the latest)... Unsure if MU/WU would want to "update" it or not...
  2. In the left-hand pane right-click on "Downloaded", click "New Category". Now when you Download, change the "Category" and all will show up under that one. It's how to "organize"... otherwise, everything by default shows up under "Downloaded" (and "Default Download Location" is "C:\Downloads"). Right-Click on that newly-created Category to change the "Default Download Location" (of which the default is "C:\Downloads\CategoryFolderName").There is no such thing as a "Cache"... Files/Folders are directly allocated and directly "copied" There is no "intermediate" - does NOT work like Windows FTP "copy" (which uses your "TEMP" directory). Download any LARGE file and watch it "allocate" that space pre-download. The only "cache" (per se) that I know of is the MTU in the Router (if using one) and TCP/IP settings. I've used TCP Optimizer to increase throughput on the OS. As far as the "Extra Commands", I'd venture to say that since FlashGet is using proprietary HTTP/FTP methods that '-la" means List using Any Installed Protocol (ref. this also this). HTH
  3. 1 - BS!!!! Service Tag provides NO relevant information... 2 - Again, you need the Driver Sets I indicated. 3 - When you go to Windows/Microsoft Update "Custom" instead of "Express" MS will want to provide NEWER drivers, so to keep that from happening, always get THE LATEST ones from the MotherBoard Vendor. Case in point - Intel's Network Driver IS the Latest, as is the Chipset Driver. I have ALRAEDY run into this on my Brother's PC (a Dimension 4600) 4 - I hope that your Sound Driver is ok. I played Heck with my Brother's - it's an ADI SoundMax 5 - And you STILL need the Video Driver - indications is that it's an 'NV18" Here is the output from my Brother's Service Tag I have done extensive research on this PC, so I thought I might help. Do as you wish...
  4. To each their own...
  5. Wouldn't an easier "clone" method be to just boot to a floppy, use FDISK to remove all partitions, then FDISK /MBR that drive, then copy EVERYTHING from original EXCEPT the Page File (which is locked), then swap to booting from the "new" HDD? No MBR/PBS (sic) problems and the Page File gets recreated, right? I could have SWORN I'd done it that way before...
  6. BWAHAHAHAH!!! I've repeatedly worked on my Brothers' Dim4600... I have EVERYTHING on my HDD... I have NO CLUE what your ORIGINAL Video Card is. On the back, there SHOULD be a Service Tag Number. This will allow me to find SPECIFICALLY what your PC had WHEN NEW! If anything has changed (mainly the Video Card, and possibly otheers Cards added). this COULD change, but the BASICS should remain the same. STANDARD (AFAIK) is an IDE/PATA Hard Disk unless you put a SATA in it. I guess I should also ask... Do you have the Restore CD's? These PC's usually come with two hidden Restore-To-Factory Partitions. More "magic" may be need to clean this up. Please note that the Chipset Download you did is "kind of" old. It appears to have an 865-series Chipset (specifically 82865PE). Here is the Intel website for 865-series. You will need the Chipset, Sound, Network, and Video (and any other add-in cards). Please provide information requested so we can supply more (specific) assistance. Hmmm... When you press "F12" when you first turn it on you SHOULD get a "Boot Selection" Screen. By selecting "Dell Utility" and booting to it you SHOULD get to the Utility Partition if it exists, which would imply that the Hidden Partitions still exist!
  7. On a VPC Win98SE, I cleared (in MSDOS prompt) Attributes (standard is System/Hidden/Readonly). It sticks when displayed back. I then manually ran BOOTEDIT from a Folder (a short-named path, mind you) with the HLP file with it. Works fine and RESETS Attributes back to SHR... Did it WITHOUT Clearing as well. Even did it with just "Archive" bit set - same result... Filesystem=FAT16... Hmmm. maybe something to do with C-Drive and marked Active(? normally required). More than likely using System Commander is causing problems. BOOTEDIT does NOT alter any other file (there's even a tab to display the contents). edit - side note - it appears that this one was a "clean" install with IE6SP1, the MSInstaller, a Firewall, and a Printer added (maybe some other minor items). Still, shouldn't matter unless it has to do with some "unofficial" updates?
  8. @Multibooter - BE FOREWARNED! Connect the Router to PC ONLY! Disconnect from the Modem (WAN) Side! Read CAREFULLY any instructions. You will HOSE the Router and play HECK getting the Firmware corrected (there ARE methods sometimes). @Drugwash - the POINT of my post is to save you some hassle - MY LIST IS ACCURATE! By REPLICATING the List on YOUR downloads and LINE COMPARING, you have what you need to "correct" your download. I do NOT have TC, and DirPrt is... FREE!!! (Not sure about TC but you DO get the point, don't you?). WHY should ANYONE "browse a list" when the Method I indicated will yield ONLY NECESSARY "FIXES"? After all I didn't suggest "browsing" ANYTHING! I could easily use my method for Comparison against ANY "version" of the ResKit (Much like BeyondCompare)! BTW, I also have DirPrudence for Directory/File comparisons and CompareIt for contents comparisons (hence "Tool of your choice"). edit And below that something about "orders". NOT "Free"! Or am I missing something here?
  9. @Multibooter - you've installed the ResKit?
  10. YOUR HDD does the same thing in FRIEND'S laptop? You said "Tried System Restore, Restore Points Been Wiped." Does that mean the SATA drive has NOT been "wiped" (i.e. "cleaned/formatted")? I ask because you ALSO said "All Files Were All Ready Gone". Now, IF the Problem stemmed from what you INITIALLY stated ("Updates then battery died") and you did NOT "wipe" the HDD (do you know how?) then... In addition, if IN THE BIOS SETUP (can you get into it?) you have SATA=AHCI instead of (e.g.) IDE, then XP will NOT Install from a CD without SATA Drivers (besides the fact that IF the Vista is STILL there, you shouldn't attempt to install it). Set the BIOS to IDE/PATA Mode instead of SATA. You COULD have some "boogered" SATA Drivers being Installed at the time of Failure (that's what I've gleaned from my search). Usually, there's a SPECIAL key sequence given by manufacturers that allows for a AS FROM FACTORY Restore. You undoubtedly have a "boogered" Boot Sequence. edit - one searched link led to this link.
  11. @Multibooter - I've found that sometimes a Firmware Update helps routers - There's a newer version for yours here (I have an older model of the same router). Click Downloads then select your Version. @Drugwash - Like I said, use Karen's Directory Printer (what I used) and Save the List in the same format/options (you must be referring to Post#57). Global Edit this Z:\WINwork\win98\Reskit_CDRom\to conform to YOUR Root Name and do a Line Compare with whatever Tool suits your fancy. Any FileHash differences need re-downloaded and any MISSING need downloaded.
  12. Sorry to say this, but Chipset Driver Packages are just that... Packages! They may contain many INF files for different Chipsets for a given Vendor (e.g. Intel, Via, etc.). I can therefore not guide you because - 1 - You never said what you Computer Make (HP, Dell, etc) and Model are. Without that information there's no way of knowing. 2 - You mention an EXE file but never say what the filename is or where you got it, so we can't inspect the contents and match them to #1 (Make/Model). Go here and start reading from Post #43 - read the rest of the posts. I don't want to go through that again. Let's keep it THIS TIME down to maybe two or three posts and DONE!
  13. Hmmm... I will NOT swear to this BUT... there's a way with newer OSCDIMAGE to allow for multiple boot configurations. Just a quick-and-dirty HTH... I'm sure some other more knowledgeable member can shed more light.
  14. But... now you have one on D-Drive? That "other MSFN topic" you were looking at seems a potentially more viable option... (been watching...)
  15. It's 2000 Server I was trying to be "consistent".
  16. YES!!!!! Riddle me this, Batman! WHAT is the ACTUAL value of variable %allFromOutputDir% This may help, since this is CREATED on Win7... edit - AMAZING!!!!! 1 - I first 7-zipped notepad.exe (JUST THAT and NOT the Folder) 2 - I then created a config.txt EXACTLY like yours (changed pgm to NOTEPAD.EXE) 3 - I then ran this command copy /-Y /B 7zsd.sfx+config.txt+notepad.7z 7ztest.exe4 - I then double-clicked 7ztest.exe - NOTEPAD OPENED!!! Dude, you are doing something WRONG!!!! See MY "copy" command! YES, it DOES work! Please note I used this one...
  17. Still requires a method of "deleting" before "auto-recreating", true?I suppose you could initiate a "chkdsk", then "offline" find the Reg Entry(?), then use that as a sample for a "CMD" to execute? I'm not really into trying this out. I see no other alternatives. It MUST be deleted SOMEWHERE while the OS has NOT been loaded to the point of CREATING the Pagefile! True or not??? ("Offline" no matter how you want to slice-and-dice the "terminology".) edit - I have no need for such a function, hence the "trying" comment.
  18. You keep referring back to this believing that this "fixes" it. Reread the link. It does NOT install stuff. It is just for the Service! There's more to it than that. Microsoft Update is for finding Updates to, e.g. Office, SQL Server, etc... Those items generally "above and beyond OS-oriented". It APPEARS as if you are "slipstreaming" via Manual (T13) and WPI. If that's the case, you may want to look over Ricktendo's package and figure out (since it's for Spanish) and "extract" that portion out. Please note that Ricktendo's Add-On is made for nLite (as is the SINGLE WU/MU package I pointed to). It may be easier to "reconstruct" the Add-On I linked to using Ricktendo's Spanish-Specific differences then "create" an Installer for use with WPI. OR... look into nLite since you already have the Spanish Updates (how did you get them?) and use Add-On's instead (OnePiece link as a sample) - OR just use Ricktendo's Full Add-On Package with nLite. Why don't you just create a new DVD? AGAIN!!!!! This Topic is in the UNATTENDED Subforum!!!!!!! (It APPEARS that there's more to MU than what's been given so far - get the OnePiece Add-On and look inside the INF...) @5eraph - my condolences as well.
  19. Server 2000 = Super 2000 Pro Server 2003 = Super XP Pro Server 2008 = Super Vista/Windows7 Ultimate So... one might "assume" - Server 2012 = Super Windows8 Server OS's have MANY additional features not found on "Consumer"/"Business" versions. Like... being a Server (Domain Controller, DHCP Server, full-blown Web/FTP Server, Media Content Server, etc). Servers can do EVERYTHING the others can do AND THEN SOME! Some folks actually Disable many Services just to make it more non-Server-like unless/until they want/need a given Service. Even how to add "unsupported" Components to it that aren't included from the next-lower (if you have that OS as well). Server2k3->Workstation http://www.msfn.org/win2k3/index.htm Server2k8->Workstation http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/161-windows-server-2008-to-workstation/ Server->Workstation - Why? See? You're a User! (mild snark... please don't be offended). edit - LOL
  20. Well, I'm not so sure that a PageFile can be deleted OR resized to "zero" on a Running System. It would have to (AFAIK) be deleted "offline" from an (e.g) WinPE. Hence my statement "have deleted PageFile on it's partition". To clarify, I have done this while running ANOTHER O.S. running on ANOTHER partition that's using a DIFFERENT PageFile (dual-boot). LiveXP, WinPE, LiveLinux, Dual-Boot ANY other OS that can delete from FAT32 (and/or NTFS) that is NOT "using" the one to be deleted in order to delete it. (???). 1 - Boot to Something Else 2 - Delete PageFile-Of-OS-In-Question 3 - Reboot to What-I-Wanted-To-Delete's-OS 4 - "Rebuilt" Which methods would be faster? Dunno... Still appears to be a "reboot to something" issue...
  21. OK... you DO realize that you HAVE to have - 1 - Windows Genuine Advantage components ("legitcheckcontrol.dll" - you MUST be Genuine) 2 - Windows Update components (Microsoft Update components uses this) 3 - BITS (speeds up the download - USUALLY installed for Microsoft Update "recommended") 4 - Microsoft Update components (plus a "redirect" from old Windows Update) * - note that it's unknown to me if the "datastore.ebd" has to be "wiped" and a "dummy" one installed (usually created the first time you use Windows Update which FORCES the WGA components) ? - DO you have these items completed? Not sure how you got to Step#4 without going through the other steps. This is USUALLY what happens (in that order) when you first go to Microsoft Update. It really sounds like you're trying to "beat the system". If I REALLY have to, I'll do a "fresh install" in a VPC just to clarify the "must installs" in the sequence they occur. HTH edit - THIS - http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us is where you're trying to get to. WindowsUpdate components (including an ActiveX) are needed before MicrosoftUpdate can be used. If you notice, IF you installed MU that there's a box on the right that says "Step Up To Windows Update" which is NOT an Independent function! You HAVE to go through A to get to B! I am AGAIN assuming that you have "integrated" ("unattended") all Updates EXCEPT "MicrosoftUpdate" (because you didn't find and use the Add-On, but used instead the JUST "WindowsUpdate" Add-On) and NOW want the LAST "Step#4". It MIGHT be easier (on a RUNNING system) to just look into HOW to "reinstall" the WHOLE FULL OnePiece ADDON! I could have SWORN that this topic was in the "Unattended" Sub-forum!!!! YOU ARE NOT ASKING FOR AN UNATTENDED FIX!!!!
  22. Case in point (I personally don't want to test an AFAICR) - Clearing it will take just as much time as rebuilding it at startup. Not swearing to it, because I DON'T want to reboot to my XP right now (have deleted PageFile on it's partition). You would still be "writing" to it (Shutdown or Startup, whichever). As jaclaz stated, this will probably work. However, note this in the VBS - "ERROR: The paging file from volume '%1' cannot be deleted." " At least one paging file must be present." SO... it implies that you will have to do a "resize" at the least (to ANOTHER volume) and probably boot twice to "reset" it back to the original. If your intent is to "defrag" it (force it to be contiguous), the best way (IMHO) would be to redefine it on another partition, reboot, defrag the Volume where it USED to be, then, "redefine" it back (it will be "recreated" on reboot). Note the MFT will still cause potential "contig" probs for the PageFile (MFT will not be affected and could "break" Pagefile into minimum two). Open to massive corrections by others...
  23. (sigh...) where xxx means ANY of the characters there (even xxxx or xxxxxx). It appears that every single item you listed is in that SET of INF's. Do what I said! The 945GM.INF ( 1 ) and the ( + ) ICH7xxx.INF Set (ALL of them) ( 3 ... and now... 4! ) ONLY FROM FOLDER "ALL"!!!! ( = OMG!!! 4! ... and now... 5! ) I WAS after all going with YOUR original "ZIP" ( =4 ) file!!! This is NOT that complex! Follow Instructions TO THE LETTER! The "Ponch" ( =5 ) Set is just NEWER and includes support for NEWER DEVICES (hence the "xxxx" name changes)!
  24. You must be referring to the ".Net Runtime Optimization Service". Just disable it.
  25. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd346763.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc768164.aspx But doesn't jive with what you have shown. The value is called an LDID. (ARGGG! The value for "21" is based on [WinntDirectories]) The other "Values" I will have to dig up. They are consistent with pre-Win2k values. Some serve as FileSize, some as a CRC, etc (AFAICR). edit - look here for some very useful information. edit2 - the CRC (somewhere) is placed into it by CABARC/MAKECAB when the INF is generated (optional). Notice that the INF files are "generated" by (one) of those programs.
