Specifically talks about "rewiring". That would include the LED's, Powers Switch, FP-connector, etc. http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?71268-Asus-A7V8X-LA-Motherboard-ATX-question No details in the link, just what we've stated. Apparently this fellow used a A7V8X docs to solve his problem - http://www.fixya.com/support/t2424660-asus_a7v8x_la_front_audio_wires_unplug NOTE that this is the "other" model (Kamet2) as spoken of in this thread - http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/18271/ NOTE also the comment about "plugging into front disables rear" I found your SPECIFIC MoBo here - http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/oem/hp/manual/ Scroll down to Kelut - yep it matches what you gave. Everything HP/Compaq - http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/oem/HP/index.html Didn't look too far into the Kelut manual but probably matches this for "other than sound" http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/a7v8x-la-front-panel-motherboard/ It looks like you'll HAVE to Continuity check the OLD cable to the OLD FRONT and act accordingly... AGAIN, if it has a "Front Panel I/O Board" it'll make it more difficult due to having to "trace through" (visually?). That's all, folks! -

Well, FWIW, it appears the the answer you got over at the OC forum is similar to the one given here. Although I could be wrong based on the specs. This indicates you have a Compaq model similar to a SR1030NX. You see, without knowing EXACTLY what your OLD case is (IOW, the Compaq MODEL) as well as the MoBo as well as the NEW case we are only... GUESSING. You've consistently stubbornly refused to give any details other than that which you wish to provide. This just cause us to DRAG info from you to further... GUESS. According to the Specs page, the Rear connectors are the basic (top-to-bottom) "Line IN" "Line OUT" "Mic IN" and probably changeable to accommodate 6-CH Dolby Surround (all are OUT). I will VENTURE to say the the "FPOUT"/"RET" are the "typical" contacts that (possibly) "disconnect" the Back Panel OUT in lieu of FP-Headphones (FPOUT/tip = + and RET/sleeve = -), the "-" side laying against the "+" side to allow "through" to Rear Connectors. The "MIC2" is PROBABLY for a Condensor(?)-type Mic(?). You can SEE why we have suggested you TRACE the FRONT through the CABLE (disconnected from the MoBo) via Continuity Check (touch stuff inside the FRONT to an PIN on the MoBo end of the CABLE). Possibly, this BOX has a PC-board in the back of the FRONT that could ENTIRELY change the circuitry. Did you check that? You MAY have to (AFTER thorough Continuity check and DEPENDING on an additional PC-Board) "rig"/rewire the CABLE (or NEW cable?) to adapt to the MoBo. You ARE dealing with a "Compaq/HP Modified" ASUS MoBo, you know... Finally, according to SR1030NX Specs the Front Panel has the same sound connections, although I'd bet that it's STRICTLY "L/R Line In/Out" and "Mic (mono) IN" and NOT able to change to Surround as this is USUALLY how it works. I COULD be wrong and MIC1/2 COULD indicate a "L/R"-style mic (UNKNOWN). "JD" COULD mean "Jumper Detect" (whatever that might be?). Google'd "front panel" "mic jd" That's all any of us "experts" can give without exact info and further reference links. -

I believe that FF uses a JavaScript (prefs.js in your FireFox User Profile) and not a Registry entry. I have no clue about the others. -

1 Smart-axe responses will get you zilch. Typically, you expect crystal-ball answers. ALL hardware has it's differences unless the EXACT SAME ITEM, in which "case"... DUH!!!2 Who said a few wires at a time to check continuity? Unplug the cable from MoBo and CHECK (front panel, remember?)! 3 4 Colors may be all out of whack. You STILL will need to check continuity. * (see #2,#4) -

Edit2... Must be boring without all of those Vista Business spam posts. Should a recommendation be given for where to find a cheap meter? And how to set for Continuity? (Hint - 2 wires, a battery, some electrical tape, and a flashlight bulb...) -
DOH!!! (smacks head with 4lb. sledge...)

Posted the same question here. Some kind of Compaq Case was original (apparently). Did you try TRACING the wiring on the OLD case to correlate to the NEW case pins using a meter ("continuity")? All you'll get with the original question are "wild guesses", of which I can ONLY vouch for the +5v pin (case) is really the VCC pin (MoBo) since that's USUALLY what VCC means. Edit - and there appears to be several MoBo's with that configuration. Edit2 - -
Agreed on the Win3x - it would fly! With the additional RAM (if found) either 3.x or 95 would be pretty snappy. I found this. If you got a COMPLETE PC, then you could (maybe) get (or make) a Serial or Parallel "null-modem" cable and transfer everything. Wiki NullModem (Direct Cable Connection)...With DOS (provided you have that "optional floppy" OR are savvy enough to after-the-fact install it IF you have it available, and I would assume you do, seeing as how you're installing Win3.x) then you could just Boot To Dos and run InterLink (disk#2 of DOS 6.22).

Pardon my ignorance... That single file is not the complete set. By searching "WUCSP.EXE" intitle:index.ofyou can find in addition the two Win98 Y2K updates as well. The IE/OE are pointless (IMHO) as you would best be served updating a Win98 install to IE5 or (preferably) IE6 or just use Win98-compatible alternate (e.g. Firefox) and ignore/uninstall(?) OE entirely. (silly me... I have the CD...) This might interest you and this specifically.

FWIW, apparently PEN is an add-on. Search for this Microsoft Windows For Pen Computing 1.0It exists (7-zip) and I have no clue whether it would work for you. I'll say no more as this is more than likely extremely borderline. As for Win95 "choking" I find that highly unlikely. I've had it on a couple of ancient PackBell 386/486 before. Still have the Recovery Disks, one is Win3.11, the other is the Drivers for Win95 Upgrade (which I did install). You must have done something wrong (like maybe copied the WIN95/98 folder to HDD?). Win98 would have been "pushing it". ...and jaclaz' link appears to be quite a find for you...

FWIW, did a Google on "Vista Business x86" site:www.msfn.org -november -decemberand it seems that this began (roughly) around there (looking at the Google Cache). ??? Did "Anonymous" group do this?

Awww Trip! You've been hacked! Now I can honestly say "Brrrrt! It wasn't me!"

? That's for XP RTM and isn't even the FULL version. There is NO Official MS Service Pack for ANY Windows 98/98SE/ME. There are, however a number of Unofficial ones listed here in addition to Full Lists of Fixes. Have you looked at this yet?

Google - convert "pdf to word" A number of Free Converters pop up almost immediately. I can't vouch for any of them though...

Capped (clipped, whatever) sound with Audigy sound card
submix8c replied to Phaenius's topic in Hardware Hangout
Then it's your files (or whatever?) The "tests" were to "check" with "basic ranges" (I assume, since I didn't use said "tests"). You SHOULD have heard the same "artifacts" that you have been experiencing.(note- I'm a Sound Engineer as well AND am a Certified Electronics Technician.) -My Silence Is Broken- -
Ummm... nope! Not even DOS is abandonware. Read this Wiki. Copyright is copyright - if found out and enforced, you could be in deep darks...Indeed, just because it's "no longer supported" doesn't mean abandoned - it's still being sold. Don't be fooled and tread lightly! (off-topic much?)

Google (or any) Translate may help with your confusion. My intent with the response is - MSFN Forum Sections (etc.) are self-evident. Think first - if incorrect, it will be moved/removed (whatever) by a Moderator (etc). No biggie... Rules are here in a link - read (translate) them and act accordingly. edit - BTW, I notice you posted this topic in the appropriate area. and... DOH! I made a post when I COULD have edited the other one above.

You can ask (in the appropriate sub-forum and YES that's the one), but we would really appreciate you doing your own legwork on such a trivial question. We are "Santa's Helpers" - YOU be Santa. The Gods help those that help themselves (not implying anything with this).

Dude... SERIOUSLY? There are MAJOR Groups on the Main Page. The remainder are sub-divisions. And under/within that MIGHT be an additional sub-sub-divisions. I can clearly see a descriptive within each. In fact, each sub-division/sub-sub-division MIGHT even have a FAQ, and USUALLY has "Stickies" which should be checked BEFORE posting any new Topics (these are the "important" topics"). This is THE most well-organized Forum I've encountered! The only complaint ANYONE ever had was "Search" that can be overcome by using Google Advanced Search and giving MSFN as the Site to search within, ignoring any other websites. NO WAY!!!! No MS Software is so-called "abandonware". Buy originals at flea markets, eBay, craigslist, etc. You answered your own question. Just append "etc" to that. This truly isn't worthy of the reply I just gave. (is there a WTF emoticon?)

Hmmm. interesting. I may use this Burner software. It APPEARS to be an Inno Setup which DOES extract using UniExtract (search for it using google or her on MSFN) and running the main program APPEARS to make it "stand-alone". Your "problem" is the Conduit program that's embedded in the Installer. I didn't get ANY of the "symptoms" you mentioned when I did it that way. You COULD just "extract" it using UniExtract and "create" your own "installer" (by whatever method). I downloaded it and that appears how it works (did via the Official site, btw - and it is the same as your link which is unnecessary). Of course if you look inside the "install_script.iss" file you'll find a number of Registry entries that are NOT installed (File Associations, etc). If you're really daring you could "repack" the NSIS Installer (see this). Please don't ask - I haven't used it but it's definitely created with it. In addition, urie just told you you MUST DOWNLOAD THE AUTOIT PACKAGE (a software that MUST be installed), install it, compile the given script, and VOILA! You are repeatedly asking for something that has been already provided and just give an alternative/harder way. Just do it! Addendum - Hmmm... the script urie provided (in the link) needs corrected to change the occurrences of "6.80" to "6.81". AHHH!!! Nope, this won't work with this version - only the previous one (you find it...). It MIGHT work if you ALSO change "MyAshampoo.exe" to "ConduitInstaller.exe" (they have separated a DLL out only, AFAICT).

W98 fails to set-up hardware - help request please
submix8c replied to Jonssen's topic in Windows 9x/ME
...hence the suggestion BOOT TO SAFE, DELETE ALL, REBOOT, FORCE "ADD NEW HARDWARE"... This is the generally accepted Tried and True method. I'd bet $0.10 to a doughnut that you have MULTIPLE occurrences of Devices for any given TYPE in the Registry that WILL "hork up" proper detection. BTW, are you aware that you can RENAME "C:\WINDOWS\WIN.COM" (from a DOS floppy or "Safe Mode Command Prompt Only" - PURE DOS) and force a Reinstall of Win98, keeping all REG settings and Post-Initial-OS-Install installed Software (etc.) as well? Here is a reference point for this - be SURE that the WINDOWS folder is selected as noted. And NO it doesn't matter what "type" (i.e. OEM, Retail, or Upgrade - NOT a "Stepup/Update"). Windows 98 on First HDD and First Partition REQUIRED. You'll naturally have to apply ANY/ALL Updates to Win98 (they get overlayed during Reinstall) and "potentially" some Drivers (due to older versions that MAY be installed). This method is similar in nature to an "over-the top Reinstall" of XP. Your choices, dude. Be obstinate or follow the instructions. -
W98 fails to set-up hardware - help request please
submix8c replied to Jonssen's topic in Windows 9x/ME
In addition to jaclaz' comment - So, the DRIVERS aren't being "found". You ARE aware that SAFE MODE, they are NOT functioning since SAFE MODE bypasses LOADING drivers, right? That's because your Startup Disk has the needed... DOS DRIVERS! And AGAIN, you are OBVIOUSLY missing the DRIVERS (for some reason). You NEED the AHA Drivers within Windows to get to the JAZ driver which is CONNECTED to it. Be aware that SOMETIMES not ALL files necessary are copied to the CORRECT place on the HDD for "reinstall".Have you tried a DIRECT REINSTALL of the AHA-SCSI drivers from a SOURCE and NOT "the usual auto-find"? In SAFE MODE, do what jaclaz said - REMOVE everything and "start from scratch". Reinstall ALL drivers and software as necessary. Get everything you need. In addition, since you claim your USB's aren't recognized i'm rather confused since this is an ASUS P2B 440BX-based Mobo. They SHOULD have shown and functioned after deletion and "reload" - reboot to Normal and "Add New Hardware". This Mobo SHOULD be a rather "standard" Win98-supported Intel Mobo. And... don't believe ALL of the MS-suggested methods - just SAFE MODE/DELETE/REBOOT/ADD NEW and it WILL work (or SHOULD). Jaclaz is correct - if ANY not found - FORCE REINSTALL form ORIGINAL sources, and NOT from HDD "aut-find" if any do NOT function afterward. -
1 - I gave that as INFO and there was ANOTHER link right at the top. I gave you EXACT instructions. Did you follow them or ignore them?2 - Read this and read LINKS given in post #2. Phone Activate (COA key) or Already Activated (OEM-specific Internal Key) - your choice. Provide as well here is a more specific explanation. Keyfinders are EASY to "find" and are legal to use - Magic Jellybean is popular. 3 - Yes, because those MS "default" ones may NOT exist or may NOT work as well. For example, you MAY not have SOUND because of the OEM-Specific driver that's necessary. I'm going to BET that the "Drv" folder contains a set of INF's and Files within sub-folders FOR YOUR SPECIFIC COMPUTER and the link I gave is for ORIGINAL which you have already) and NEWER ones. 4 - (See #1) Where did you find DOCS, SUPPORT, VALUEADD folders? POTENTIALLY, they are in the "Apps" folder. I've only encountered YOUR version of OEM Restore once (AFAICR) and have no time to look for my OEM Backups used for repairing other peoples' PC's. I WILL tell you that the LATEST "SUPPORT" and "VALUEADD" (and DOTNETFX, which you didn't notice is ALSO missing) are in the ISO version of "Service Pack 3" (found here). DOCS (for SP3) folder has ONLY a GIF image that's displayed when you click on the HTML-files (two of them - README.HTM and SETUPXP.HTM)in the ORIGINAL XP-cd. You WILL NOT be able to make a FULLY ORIGINAL from your Restore DVD -or- your HDD files - You have an OEM-Modified SP2, which is why I told you about the (hopefully) overlay of the MODIFIED files by the Slipstream of the SP3 (they get REPLACED with UNALTERED ones). 5 - IF that "no good" XP-Pro is an SP3 (DATES=2008) then you CAN copy ALL if the Folders I mentioned form IT to your HDD's "XPNLITE" folder, including ALL of the files in the ROOT of the CD to "XPNLITE" folder. * - I am SUSPECTING you did NOT follow my instructions to enable displaying EVERYTHING since you did NOT call "BOOTFONT" instead of "BOOTFONT.BIN" since that IS the name of that file. In addition, strangely enough, Microsoft claims it's for East Asian BUT this (and others apparently) state it's necessary for ANY non-English. Are the files you mentioned on the XP-Pro CD you have? You also mentioned AUTORUN (really "AUTORUN.INF", if you'd have change Windows Explorer Options as I TOLD you to do) and there is an ADDITIONAL file at the ROOT of the CD, namely (in ADDITION to the HTML files I mentioned) "SETUP.EXE" (which is what the "AUTORUN.INF" points to). These files are (NORMALLY) ONLY good if you're going to UPGRADE a PREVIOUS version of Windows. Your CD/DVD is an OEM-version and there are OTHER folders MISSING inside YOUR "I386" Directory, NAMELY "WIN9XMIG", "WIN9XUPG", and "WINNTUPG". To complicate this even MORE, YOUR version is Netherlands and the files are Language-Specific. ** - Please note that it APPEARS that SOME Folders/Files MISSING will be Slipstreamed (AFAIK) but not ALL of them. The DOCS-folder and ROOT (SETUP.EXE and the HTML-files) appear to be the ones, but NOT BOOTFONT.BIN (unknown IF you need it) or AUTORUN.INF (you NEED it, so COPY it). Again, you will NOT be able to Recreate an EXACT CD due to the DVD being OEM and language-specific UNLESS the XP-Pro-CD is ALSO Netherlands, in which case you CAN copy JUST THE MISSING FOLDERS and Files to "XPNLITE" folder. Still, this WILL NOT MAKE AN EXACT REPLICATE of one you purchase - will NOT happen! In addition, I DID point out that MANY files INSIDE I386 will NOT be even used since the ARE added by the OEM. Notes - IF you SORT (before integrating SP3) you COPY of the "XPNLITE\I386" Folder by DATE and REMOVE all files INSIDE I386 that are NOT dated 2004, THEN you will have removed ALL of the "modified/added" HP/Compaq files. THEN Integrate SP3. Follow MY instructions (in addition to this FURTHER information), please. OTHER links given are for REFERENCE and not to be followed! HTH Questions - 1 - What is the Label (Volume Name) on the XP-Pro CD? 2 - Do you have a "WINNT.SIF" file INSIDE YOUR XP-Home "I386" DVD Folder (do NOT post it, just say if you HAVE one)? Comment - CHANGE YOUR WINDOWS EXPLORER OPTIONS so you can see... EVERYTHING, please! SOME files WILL BE HIDDEN, otherwise!
