ok, 8.1 Preview is now available. Does anyone who hated Win8 now likes 8.1? Me not, it is the same like Win8 + a few things which should already be part of Win 8 (boot to desktop). If bigmuscle and thihy get their projetcs to work I may upgrade, if not I'll stay at Win8.

Trace why Windows 8 boots, shutsdown or hibernates slowlyMagicAndre1981 replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Windows 8 ok, Windows hangs while loading the registry hives: ntkrnlmp.exe!CmpInitializeHive ntkrnlmp.exe!CmpDoFindSubKeyByNumber this time run this: xbootmgr -trace boot -traceFlags BASE+CSWITCH+POWER+REG_HIVE+REGISTRY -stackwalk profile+RegHiveInit+RegHiveDestroy+RegHiveLink+RegHiveDirty+RegQueryKey+RegEnumerateKey+RegEnumerateValueKey+RegDeleteKey+RegCreateKey+RegOpenKey this traces Registry activity, too. And please, compress the file as 7z (LZMA2 with ULTRA compression ratio to reduce the filesize!) before uploading it.

Trace why Windows 8 boots, shutsdown or hibernates slowlyMagicAndre1981 replied to MagicAndre1981's topic in Windows 8 I need the ETL file. But I see a lot of CPU usage. You need to run a different command: xbootmgr -trace boot -traceFlags BASE+CSWITCH+DRIVERS+POWER -stackwalk profile

install.wim size after inrtegrating udpatesMagicAndre1981 replied to theKramer's topic in Unattended Windows 8/Server 2012 Install the Updates via setupcomplete.cmd. I do this in Win7 and it is faster compared to putting them into the WIM (DISM is slow while commiting and unmounting the Image)

when I attach a monitor via VGA I get a blurry screen: The Startscreen has this strange artifact in the background (I see text, but there was no program in abckground) Here is my log: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5749744/Dokumente/MSFN/Aero%20Glass%20for%20Win8%20RC3/debug.log

Mainly because All Programs button will be 'hanging' in the white space on the half of the menu. ? At the same location there is a link to "see more results" when you search. SO place the "back" link there. This should be no difference. I want this large view, that you get when you do a search, when you click on all programs. In this case I don't care about the link on the right side.
-
good point. I can't understand why going 20 years back in productivity should be an improvement.
-
MS ruined the MSDN/Technet forums completely it is UNUSABLE.
-
why is this confusing? Themes already have this view, so use it.
-
nice. Can you now implement my request to make the startmenu larger when clicking on "all programs" (the same size like when you search for programs/files)?

	I still can't see any DPC issues. The values are fine: Total = 25890 Elapsed Time, > 0 usecs AND <= 1 usecs, 7141, or 27.58% Elapsed Time, > 1 usecs AND <= 2 usecs, 12500, or 48.28% Elapsed Time, > 2 usecs AND <= 4 usecs, 2160, or 8.34% Elapsed Time, > 4 usecs AND <= 8 usecs, 2607, or 10.07% Elapsed Time, > 8 usecs AND <= 16 usecs, 742, or 2.87% Elapsed Time, > 16 usecs AND <= 32 usecs, 602, or 2.33% Elapsed Time, > 32 usecs AND <= 64 usecs, 100, or 0.39% Elapsed Time, > 64 usecs AND <= 128 usecs, 38, or 0.15% Total, 25890 the small svchost.exe spike comes from Superfetch.
-
the trace shows no spikes every 30s. the trace shows 1 small ndis.sys spike: Total = 2307 for module ndis.sys Elapsed Time, > 128 usecs AND <= 256 usecs, 0, or 0.00% Elapsed Time, > 256 usecs AND <= 512 usecs, 0, or 0.00% Elapsed Time, > 512 usecs AND <= 1024 usecs, 1, or 0.04% Total, 2307 First install the Sp1! RTM users don't get new updates! Now test if you still have the issues.
-
and why don't you use it?
-
Windows 8 doesn't support those swm files.
