  1. btw, submix or anyone else, anyone know the code so if they choose a wrong number or letter that it prompts the user to try again? something like: if %var% not equal to ??? then output "wrong selection"
  2. submix for the reply. this is what happens when i add the start /w to the first line: I double click the batch file the main window comes up which says "INSTALLING ARCHICAD 11" then a 2nd window opens just pointing to the desktop folder of my profile with the blinking cursor "_" the exe (AC11 USA 970.exe) never runs, I close that window and the first window tells me if i want to terminate the job, I say no and then it continues with the other file copies and the hotfix install exe. it's quite odd, but just as you see it, i dont see a problem with it.....weird!!??? i'll revisit the code again later! thanks again! ceez
  3. hello everyone here's what I am trying to run: very simple process....the 1st line installs archicad from network drive (P:\), the 2nd line copies some files to local computer from P:\, the following installs a hotfix exe and the 4th line copies some other files locally. what I need is for it to wait for the 1st command to run and finish before it goes and attempts the 2nd command and so forth. I know about the start /w switch but that is not working for me, it just opens a 2nd DOS box and nothing runs. any ideas? thanks!
  4. man there's nothing anyone can say to make things better....but right now you need to be there for each other....all 3 of you. dont resent your dad, and your mom seems to have forgiven him if she ever felt that way after she fell. talking to your dad might be a way to put things out in the open and begin a healing process. i wish your mom the best outcome during such hard times. God bless
  5. hey guys thanks alot for the information. I'll look at those versions you mentioned and test those out. i guess i'll find a list of commands from google. I also like that bootable cd idea. time to start learning something new...
  6. i went to the compusa today...so far it's just 10-15 off stuff...10% of routers, cases, etc. various items with various discounts. nothing too crazy. it might be too soon to buy stuff. a 60 buck wireless G router for 60 bucks - 10% is not much of a discount for me when they have a 'going out of business sale'. i'll pass by again in two weeks to see if there are better deals.
  7. hello everyone...ok so I was job browsing to see what's out there...and lately i have noticed that people are not only running an MS shop but also requiring unix/linux experience. honestly, i've never ever ever ever used any of the two and would know where to start. with so many flavors and options out there I dont know where to start if i wanted to start learning the OS. what would you recommend I download or read up on? what version would more likely be used by a company? thanks for the help!
  8. this picture is actually from my company. A member of our support services (mail room peeps) had to ship this lapto to one of our remote offices. it was sent to our corporate office so we could fix a hard drive issue....after my coworker fixed it it was working great...unfortunately our support services staff thought it would be a great idea to ship in one of those bubble wrapped fedex envelopes....so much for fixing the harddrive....lets just say that they have to ship it back to corporate to get the lcd replaced! (which we already ordered and have... 450 bucks!) here in IT we just had to take pics and share with the rest of the world!
  9. <insert yelling here> i dont like the office...i dont like how it's filmed, it like a documentary still show. Even people that watch it will swear that it's the best show since The View! LOL!
  10. there's a few compusa's by my area here in Miami. I'll pass by one of them to see if I get a crapload of CD's for dirt cheap...other than that. I think the only i've EVER bought there was an HP digital 5mp camera for 100 bucks! and that was 2 years ago!!! maybe i'll find a wireless router for the girlfriend so she can be mobile with her laptop at home! sorry to see you go compusa
  11. HB2U! ENJOY IT! oh 17....man it seems so far away!!!
  12. i guess i am going to be the odd ball here but i like using the google toolbar. it doesnt slow anything down at all. quick search from my favorite search engine.... now the msn, aol, yahoo....those seem bloated with crap!
  13. Hello everyone. I was wondering if there's a way that I can query our workstations in the network to retrieve either the full or partial serial number of our acrobat copies 7 & 8. We have a spreadsheet with serials and usernames but with people leaving and laptops being reassigned to new users the list has gotten a little 'confused'. is it possible to accomplish this? thanks
  14. I've only used ver 10 and 11d so i dont know about older version. 11d is the full release, not a demo. on of the new features is that you can do backup to disks if you have somewhere to store your backups instead of on tape. we were using b2d for remote offices and is was working pretty good. We're now using repexec to replicate our remote offices to our corp office. bue is reliable and the agents usually dont fail. if they do fail you just restart the service on the remote server and you're good to go.
  15. puntoMX you're a genious.....i was looking into replacing rollers and stuff....thanks!
  16. Hello everyone. We have an hp 3700 printer that started printing a blue short line about 1/2" every 4 or 5" appart and it prints on every paper. Are rollers causing this? Do I need a maintenance kit for the printer? Thanks!!!
  17. hello everyone. I am stuck with this problem! and I have no idea where to turn! let me set this up 7 HP LaserJet 2600n printers with static ip's installed and shared on a print server with win2003 enterprise w/sp2+r2+updates As of 2 weeks ago, all of a sudden on a friday people started complaining that they send a print job, they see it on the print queue, it displays as printing but nothing prints. Eventually more jobs get sent and the queue gets larger. once I restart the print spooler ON THE SERVER (not workstation) the print jobs spool again and print out immediately. on thursday night performed windows updates on the 2003 enterprise server and rebooted. yes i know that you would say "well ceez uninstall the updates"....yes i did....reboot...still no go. I moved the affected printers to an accounting file server (2k3+sp2+r2+updates) and they started printing fine....yet today, 2 of the users have mentioned that "problem has started again"! The server was updated last night with 2 updates: 941202 and 933729, I dont find anything on google stating that they affect printers or any print function. NOW WAIT! from the original print server there are 2 additional 2600n's that we in IT use....we can print perfectly to them...heck we can even print to the affected printers that were moved! I dont have any additional updates on my machine that would make a difference in printing or nor do i have the hp2600n software installed on my computer, all the printers are setup to connect via tcp/ip port. everyone has the same rights to the printers too. So as you can see, this is crazy and I have nowhere to go from here....I tried calling hp the week when this started but i got what sounded like a rookie and was not able to help me out....i might just call again and see if anyone can... in the meanwhile i am turning to good ol' msfn....anyone got any ideas?!?!? thanks! ceez ps- these printers were working perfectly for almost a whole year, I have powercycled them, reset to factory, changed net cables almost anything imaginable!
  18. hey there everyone. I found this great posting from another post in regards to silently removing google and yahoo toolbar...but how about the live toolbar? http://www.msfn.org/board/Silent_removal_G...ars_t85198.html anyone know of where to get a similar script for the windows live toolbar? thanks again! ceez
  19. Hello fellow msfn'ers... I have an issue with outlook clients and exchange authentication. Our outlook 2003 clients located on our child domains get prompted to authenticate whenever they first open outlook in the morning (or any time afterwards in which they close OL and open it again). We have 1 forest with 4 child domains using Exchange 2003 SP2 & Server 2003 Enterprise SP2+R2 mydomain.net accounting.mydomain.net baftl.mydomain.net orlando.mydomain.net newyork.mydomain.net The exchange front and back end are located in mydomain.net Again, this only happens to child domain users accessing their client, and all the users have mail enabled AD accounts ie: User in accounting.mydomain.net opens outlook 03, the authentication window will prompt to authenticate to baftl.mydomain.com, click cancel and it re-appaers asking to authenticate to orlando.mydomain.net, this process continues down the list until outlook just opens successfully. All email use thereafter works perfectly. This does not happen to users in the root domain (mydomain.net), outlook opens fine. Any idea where we can look to fix this problem? Thanks for reading, Ceez
  20. if i am not mistaken backup exec has that feature, install on your dc and backup your system state as well as other system related resources that the software identifies.
  21. thanks for the reply, but would this be under the sharing tab or under the security tab? thanks again, ceez
  22. Hey there fellow msfn'ers! we have a network share at work called 'common'. The problem I am having is that the users tell me that they cannot delete the files they copy in this share. What permission should I give it? Under share permissions I have all the Domain Users as well as the Everyone group wth ALLOW checked on Full Control, Change & Read Under the Security tab I have: Admin Group (Domain\Admin Group): full control CREATOR OWNER : none SYSTEM : full controll Administrators (Local machine\administrator) : full Users (local machine\users) : Read & Execute : List Folder Contents : Read What permission do i set so they can delete their own files that they place anywhere within this share? thanks for your help and time, ceez
  23. option 'a' is great! we soon will be deploying office 07 in our office...gotta try it out! thanks for the info! ceez
  24. hello there fellow msfn-ers! I dont know if some of you are familiar with logmein (web based remode desktop www.logmein.com) but during the setup process it prompts for the logmein user account and password. I want to be able to deploy the logmein.msi to a few laptops here in the office via AD or as part of a logon script. The problem I have is that i dont know how to make the silent install fill in those 2 fields (user/pass) or maybe how to create an answer file. Can anyone help me? Thanks a bunch! ceez
  25. hello everyone. Have an issue with one of our sites with our file server. scene: all servers running 2003 enterprise + R2 + sp2 current network is a child domain server 1 is a trusted child domain controller server 2 is a file server/print server users on the network log in normally at the ctrl-alt-del screen, the logon scripts begin to run and sometimes either while the logon scripts are running OR after the desktop loads they get another authentication window. The authentication windows is prompting to authenticate to server 2 which is just a file/print server. They cant click on any shortcut on the desktop unless they put in their credentials. We have made no changes whatsoever to server2, I've read about checking the DNS entries and they are all ok. Also when I log in to server1 it does not ask for credentials. Again, no changes to any shares or ANYTHING has been done. Eventvwr doesnt show me anything either, either on the workstation or on server2!!! What could be going on? I cant find a solution and they are driving me up a wall! Thanks, ceez
