Why dont you just leave your PC without the side pannel/overall cover of the case (whichever it's used when you pull out parts from the computer). When I had one of those standard cases you get 5-8 years ago and would have 60c on CPU I discovered that by opening completely the case I would get 43c. Dust can form yes, but dust also gets inside if you use vents or other type of holes.

*wants to learn the secret of building cases considering you need exact holes and bays for screws and devices*

I just ordered the 500W PSU. I will use the case in which I have my current specs . I will also see if the front USB are working or not, since with my current 6+ year mobo it didn't (but I have no idea if it can actualy support that). I have another old case where I will put the current specs. Anyway, the final order looked like this (see attachment), can't wait til tuesday to pick the stuff up. I really hope everything will be compatible.

yea unfortunately us sites don't ship to canada nor vice versa. Btw, I just build my own system which I want to order it tomorrow or monday, since all these prices expire on 3 July (they are slightly discounted vs original price)! I'm constrain with my budget so I actualy did want to get my rig around 1000$ What do you think about this system? Will all this be compatible? What about the motherboard? It's the only P35 I found, and unfortunately it only has 1 x16 PCIE, the other one is x4. Also the IDE connecter is way to the bottom of the mobo, so I am almost sure I will have problem hooking up my DVD-Rom. P4 E6600 http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...mp;promoid=1055 Asus P35 mobo - read some reviews says it's a bit unstable, don't know exactly if this is a good choice especialy that I do plan to overclock in the future once when newer games will start to be even more demanding http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...mp;promoid=1055 Corsair 2GB 800mhz 4-4-4-12 - 40$ mail in rebate as well til July 1st, thats why it's important to order by tomorrow if I am going to http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...mp;promoid=1055 OR OCZ 2GB 800mhz 4-4-4-15 - 50$ mail in rebate. This is about 30$ cheaper than the corsair. But is it worth it considering it has the tRAS higher with 3 units? (Don't really know what is the difference performance wise when gaming) http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...mp;promoid=1055 So which one would be the best RAM option between the 2? Seagate 500Gb 7200RPM SATA II 16MB Cache http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...mp;promoid=1055 The case + 450W PSU http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=19066 OR The PSU 500W http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...mp;promoid=1055 (For the record I can use the same case I use for my current spec, so it's an option) Please advise about this system. Is everything compatible? Is it overcloakable? (I have 0 knowledge about overcloaking but I can start studying later) Thanks friends

I got these: (prices are in CAD so its it lower than the total price) Still it's still under 1000$ (check the rebates) Seagate 500GB 16MB Chache 7200 http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...;sku=TSD-500AS2 Ultra tower + 500W powersource http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...mp;sku=ULT31795 Asus mobo http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...p;sku=A455-2322 P4 E6600 http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...u=CP1-DUO-E6600 XFX Gf7900 GS XXX http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...p;sku=P450-7948 30$ rebate Corsair 2Gb 800mhz http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...mp;sku=C13-2022 40$ rebate This is actualy the system I want to buy

I have a quick question. It's 1 in the morning so I hope it will make sence, was pretty tired when I read all these articles, which are, never the less, very interesting. In an article it said that you can pump up the E6420 from 1066mhz to 1333mhz with the new P35 motherboard. But I have seen other motherboards as well which can support 1333mhz such as: this Can you increase the FBS from 1066mhz to 1333mhz with this motherboard? I mean it supports 1333mhz as well as the P35 but it's less than double the price.

Try memtest!!! It saved my RAM when I had the blue screens. Once it started to do the test, it fixed my ram (no idea how) and no longer have problems. Restarts are also due to overheating especialy your CPU.

Heya. I never owned a laptop and I do plan to buy one. My question is, if the laptop has a 15.4" and WXGA, 1360x768, if I plug it into a normal CRT/LCD, can I set a new resolution to the spec of that monitor/LCD? For example if I have a 22" LCD 1680x1050, can I use that resolution if I plug that LCD in my laptop? The wannabe laptop would have a nVidia 8600M GS. Also will the laptop remember the display resolution each time it's being plugged into an external LCD/CRT? What happens if I set the resolution of the external monitor and then shut it down, remove the monitor, and boot it again, will it automaticaly switch to it's native laptop display resolution? Is 1360x768 a wired resolution for games and movies? The laptop in question.

So punto you are saying you can drag that after you at the airport and considered hand luggage?

I should add some details. I live in Canada, but I don't think the country really affects how the checks are done or what limitations are getting imposed on you. Prooly the transport within canada when I will be moving will not be so dificult. As you said Fedex or UPS can do the trick, and no, I don't need it over night. I am ok with 4-5 days shipping. The worst part is when I have to fly in Europe. Then there aren't that many options. What I did with my previous computer was to strip down all the parts, put them within my clothes in the carry on luggage and move on, thing that worked since right now I am writing from my computer which I brought with me from Europe. But this is a lot of fus, and with a possibility that they might get damaged. Also when I did that I couldn't take my case nor my powersource, nor my display (well I didn't had LCD's back then). What I was looking at was to ship my computer as a hole + my LCD.

Hey, it is about hardware so I will gona post here. How exactly, can you cary your desktop computer with you in a plane? You know, a standard aluminium case so it will be lighter, and LCD display. Is there a way? I mean it's impossible to pack it in your big bags, unless you want to retrive it from the airport in pieces. And it's to big to cary it in the plane with you. I really need to know, since I do not have a permanent rezidence. And laptops are just way to expensive, costing 2x more for less than half the performance vs PC. Anyone is transporting his PC with him and can give me some pointers? I'm not going to do this each week of course, but maybe once or twice a year (possibly with a return trip as well)

What's your internet connection like?
Messerschmitt replied to jcarle's topic in Networks and the Internet
Wtf people having 66k kbps up and down in Vancouver? And 6 ms? Do you have the hole IPS server in your home and your connecting through LAN or something? Dam you Oh well, i'm pretty happy with mine, except that stupid latency. And one from London, even tho I think their server are limiting the connection And one from Toronto And Inferno, how come you got such low latency? Is your home all by itself on a 3 km radius? -
Yes, compared price/quality I can recommend dell. I can never see a laptop better in performance compared to price with dell. Right now with around 1700 CAD you can get a very nice 2 GB , 250GB, Gf 7900 GS, 1.83 2 Core laptop. Of course you can get state of the art desktop, 2.4 2 Core, 4 Gb, 320 Gb, 7900 GT for under 800$, with the option to upgrade a lot in the future, but hey, we talk about laptops.

For my next computer I will go with a MSI motherboard. I have a Gf 4 Ti 4400 MSI for over 5 years and it's still working great. The fan a bit burned prooly because my crappy case that I got a few years back til 2 years ago and yet it still functions perfectly. Also I heard a lot of good things about XFX as well. Me personaly I would go with a MSI Mobo, MSI/Leadtek/XFX videocard, Corsair Ram (bit expensive), WD or Seagate HDD. I never heard something bad about the above. But I do keep hearing people complaining about Asus products when I go visit websites retailers such as Newegg and Tigerdirect.

Thanks a lot, it really helps

The Gf 4 Ti 4400 I already have The Ati Radeon 1150 I am looking to buy in a laptop. Why the 1150? Because all the specs on this laptop are extremely good compared with the price. Here it is: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...Sku=G153-MX6453 I know it's refurbished, but the same specs can be found at a least double price.
-
Hey. I just can't find the specs to make a comparation between the: nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4400 128 MB DDR and ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 up to 128 mb Shared (tho I read you can increase it to 256mb in windows) Which of the 2 cards would be better for FPS and graphics for games, I am looking especialy for MMORPG's such as EVE Online. I know that I am comparing a 5+ year old PC card (Gf4) with a laptop one.

Just got 1 fixed and another problem arrise
Messerschmitt replied to Messerschmitt's topic in Hardware Hangout
I have got an older computer from a friend and I tried to do some switching around. On his HDD he has a Windows ME version so I plugged it in in my motherboard to see if my hardware will boot his HDD. Well it just restarts. When windows has to boot it restarts. What can I understand from this? Can the motherboard if broken impede booting? I just ran out of ideas. I even used the IDE cable he had in his computer, same thing, it restarts. -

Not really. It became worse and worse. I mean as I said my windows xp cd will no longer load (or it wasn't). I could twice boot from my image CD done with Norton Ghost and when I tried again it also no longer load. At this moment I got to the stage where I have 2 HDD's both with windows XP and none of them will boot, when Windows should start loading I get another type of message this time on black screen saying something about kernel dll problem and i should contact my support whatever. Even when I boot from my Windows XP CD or from my image CD I get the exact same error. Nothing will read anymore. So my conlcusion is it cannot be the HDD itself or the optical unit disk. I have not switched the IDE wires between them (the one used for HDD and the one used for optical disks, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM), but I can't boot from any HDD or optical drive I don't think it's the wire. Can it be that the motherboard just screwed up where you insert your IDE cable? Did something happened with the motherboard memory that won't allow now anything to be run? I will switch the IDE Cables between them, but I doubt it will help, and it couldn't both IDE wires just faild at the same time so I would require to buy a new one. Right now just absolutly nothing works. And I have no idea what's that error with the Kernel DLL thing. -

Yes, motherboard is operational. The dust has been cleaned a bit early when i had a previous error. And I can't use 80 pin, I don't have one. -

Ye after 5 minutes I got blue screen again. This time with a KMIXER.SYS file problem. Now the thing is I think the blue screen where caused by the CMOS battery (small little battery a lot of problems it seems). Prooly the new one was already depleted so I again changed it. Now I no longer recive blue screens when I want to start windows but each time in normal or safe mode I get that "Could not start Systems32/Drivers/NTFS.SYS. Corrupt or missing". Now the problem is I cannot run chkdsk again, my windows xp cd is frozen before all the files are loading. It fails loading "Kernel Debugger DLL", it just froze when it reaches that file, its about the 3rd file that windows is loading when booting after the CD. What can I do? I think that if I manage to repair again and do a chkdsk I might be ok this time since I no longer get the blue screens, now I just need to fix the NTFS.SYS file again. How can I do that if my windows XP CD is no longer booting? Why is the CD all of the sudden no longer booting? Please help. I can't even format the disk if I need to now. -

Hey, as allways I want to update everything that is happening. Right now I am writing from my computer, it seems it's fixed now. From what I think the ntfs.sys file was somehow corrupted or some sort. When I booted from my winxp cd you know that it starts reading some files and loading them up prooly, down to bottom, well when it reached again ntfs.sys while booting from cd I again got blue screen. This was not good, I couldn't even perform a function from the CD. Anyway I restarted and this time I just presed F-something, first one I seen when cd was loading, for mass storage something. Well, it worked, it asked me to insert additional drive with the diskete which I didn't but at least I did something. I canceld that and I let again windows cd load up all the files, but this time it passed the ntfs.sys and I could finaly pick an option. Pressed "r" from repair and I got into the console. Then I did a chkdsk check and all checked ok. After that I restarted and selected safe mode. Well it got it! Windows started. Afterwards restarted again and now I am normaly again operational. Sincerely I have no idea what happened, nor if I will have futher problems. All I can ask now if you guys could identify the problem, what is happening/happened and hopefully this won't happen again. -
Hello I am not sure if this should be at hardware or software since to be honest no idea if it is a hardware or software related. Most likely software tho. My computer is: 1600+ XP Athlon, Sis chipset mobo, 512 ram, 2 HDD's WD, Gf4 Ti4400. My problem: My computer was playing Winamp and as far as I knew was pretty much idle since I had no idea what should I work/play with. It was conected over the internet since I was streaming on my Winamp. When all of the sudden a blue screen came up, and in less than a second computer went blank (HDD was still active). I shut it down, waited a few minutes and powered it on. It loads fine the ram, bios, makes it checks, and at the time when Windows XP has to start up I get again the blue screen. It said something like: "Problem has occured and windows shut down to prevent damage" Then it said something about: Check adequate disk space [..] Try change your video adapter [..] Disable bios memory. And Technical info: ***Stop 0x000007E (0xc000005, 0xF84F101D, 0xF89514D0, 0xF895110C) ***ACPI.Sys Adress F84F101D base at F84c8000, Date Stamp 41107D27. I restarted and then Windows told me if I want to start windows normaly or safemode. I started normaly and I got a error message (on the normal black dos screen) that NTFS.SYS is missing or corrupted. I restarted again and started on Safe mode, then a bunch of files started to apear in lines and went up up til it reached NTFS.SYS angain and gave me the error. Now after a few hours I try to open it again and I get again the blue error screen with the details I mentioned above. I restart, same blue screen. I shut down the computer for about 5 minutes, and when I open it I got blue screen error but "another" message: "Bios in this system is not fully ACPI configured. Turn off ACPI mode," etc. and some other numbers at Technical info. After this I just shut it down and went to work. Now can this just be windows problem? Maybe a virus? etc which destroyed my Windows XP? I have some mirrors made of Windows so I could try to mirror it. Any sugestions before I would do this? Don't really keen to mirror my Windows, since the last copy of it I made it 3-4 months ago.

Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT
Messerschmitt replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Hardware Hangout
Comparing a 8600GT and 8800GTS on Nvidia site you can actualy see how the 8800 has almost triple the statistics with an almost tirple memory interface. And AFAIK the price is around 50% more. Personnaly I would incline for the 8800 But again to actualy enjoy the 8800 facility you have to accomodate it with CPU and RAM. Don't do like I did buying a state of the art Gf 4 Ti4400 on a Xp 1600+ and 256 Ram. -
Difference between 320 mb and 640 mb?
Messerschmitt replied to Messerschmitt's topic in Hardware Hangout
They don't ship to Canada Punto Has a nice idea. As soon as it starts becoming too slugish I could just get second one
