  1. Greetings. I am in vacation at my aunt, and her computer restarts randomly when a DVD is inserted. Sometimes it restarts, sometimes it doesn't. A few times it starts a cycle, where it restarts the first time, then restarts again when windows is finished loading (taskbar applications starts up like the network and sound icons). The DVD is a Asus drw-2014S1. She also says she had this problem with another DVDRW Pioneer. Windows is XP SP2. Attached is 2 minidumps from the last restart. Minidump.rar
  2. Hey, sorry for not replying. I left for vacation on 23 March and I will be returning on 6 May home, where I will be able to upload the file from the computer up.
  3. Ok ran it. I got a Hang_mode__date folder with adplus_report.exe, PID-884_Explorer.exe_xxxx.log/dmp and a process_list.txt. Then a folder CDBScripts with PID-884__Explorer.exe.cfg CMD reported the following after executing the command. Is there a file I need to attach from the above?
  4. I tried the above and I got this C:\Program Files\Debugging Tools for Windows (x86)>csript adplus.vbs -crash -pn explorer.exe -quiet -o c:\adplus 'csript' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
  5. Hey, I'm getting this runtime error EVERY time I do a search in explorer, after few minutes. Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error c:/windows/explorer.exe If anyone has any idea what it might be cause by. Thanks
  6. Should I use TuneUp Defrag or is Windows Defrag still better? I just got this program so i was wondering if it would be a better choice to use it instead of what I used all this time, Windows defrag.
  7. Hi, I am not exactly sure what you mean by copying the root folder of A. Isn't A the floppy drive? I do not have a floppy drive, I only have C,D,E which are SATA II HDD's (1st HDD which is C and D, and 2nd HDD is E), then my DVD-RW which is F. I already have the Caldera 7.03 DOS burnt on the CD. Now, do I just do multi session with Nero and add the modified files, or erase the CD and edit the .iso to include the GCDROM? Also in regards to files editing and what exactly to add. Do I add the hole .zip, Config.sys, autoexec.bat and the folder ide containing gcdrom.sys? Now in regards to the editting. The gcdrom.sys has a lot of wired characters with a few lines that makes a bit of sence. I do not see any other CDROM lines. Also, do I modifty DEVICE=GCDROM.SYS /D:MSCD002 /C2 to my DVD-RW, which is F? This is what the file contains As for the autoexec.bat, how do I edit it, with notepad after I edit the .exe to something else so I can open it with notepad? If opening with notepad, I see that it already has "MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD000 /D:MSCD001 /D:MSCD002" I am not exactly sure what you are reffering to when you say to copy them to the A: part of the CD. Once Caldera DOS starts, because it does not detect that MSCD001, you cannot do anything. The blinky just blinks and the keyboard is non-responsive. The CD I have only has Caldera DOS, and I need to add that gcdrom.sys driver, and then just add the ATIFlash and the images. My keyboard is USB, but alas, i'm not exactly sure what you refer as "burning the BIOS" I do not have a diskette, I do not have a floppy disk. Also, I did not catch the DOS time, or well, when I did I was 6. So I am really not that good with DOS. And, if I set my SATA DVD-RW to IDE in BIOS, shouldn't it be detected as a PATA DVD-RW? I can't understand how other people who has SATA based DVD-RW uses the BIOS when they need it.
  8. Oh, please close it, I cleared my cookies for this site and now I see it back to normal. Wired cookie
  9. I mean, instead of seeing the replies normally, now it's some sort of IMDB.COM discussion forum. I have to click on each individual reply to view it. I hate it!
  10. Hi malmal. I tried those, but they will not work. Now I burned this on the CD: http://forums.techpowerup.com/attachment.p...mp;d=1231880794 Now the thing is on this computer it says "Driver not found 'MSCD001'", yet on my 6 year old computer, it works good, and it finds MSCD001. The difference is that my HDD's and DVD-RW is connected via SATA cables vs my 6 year old computer which is all IDE. However, the DVD-RW is connected to a SATA port that is set as IDE in BIOS. On this computer it goes: "Device Name : MSCD001 No drives found, aborting installation" On my old computer the same line goes: "Device Name : MSCD001 Number of drives : 1" Therefore on this computer I get the "Driver not found 'MSCD001'" while on my old computer it's "Drive G: Driver 'MSCD001' unit 0", like in this picture. What additional drivers do I need so I am able to boot and my SATA cable DVD-RW find this MSCD001? Please help me, I'm starting to get nightmares. I'm trying for 3 days now to boot in BIOS so I can use ATIFlash. EDIT: Ok, I found this which I 'think' it's my answer. Can anyone tell me how can I include this driver, not sure what to do.
  11. Hi there. I have tried for 2 days now to make a bootable CD with pure DOS that includes ATIFlash and my ATI BIOS image. However none of them worked. I tried both Nero and Clean20, but none of them will work.
  12. Hi there, I am posting here as it seems no one in the guru3d forums is able to point me in the right direction, IF any exists, not even unwinder. Anyway, the problem I have with RT and my HIS 4870 512mb is that RT detects my 2D clocks (200 core and 500 memory), and allows you to modify between 100-300 clock and 250-750 memory in the low-level hardware overclocking. My 3D clocks are 750 core and 900 memory. A lot other people that do have 4870's, does not have this problem, as their RT detects the correct 3D clocks, and they can OC around the correct clocks. I have tried a full removal of CCC and Catalyst drivers, and RT, and re-installed the drivers, and RT without installing CCC, yet RT will still only detect the 2D clocks. Does anyone had this problem and managed to make RT detect the correct 3D clocks of 750 core and 900 memory?
  13. I do have a 500GB 7000.11 seagate that did not caused me problems but when I needed quite direly another HDD guess with what I went? My trusty WD (got 2 other HDD from them for my old 6 yr computer 80gb and 120gb IDE) Black Caviar 640. This little thing rocks, and it's ALOT quieter. That stupid seagate clicking sound reminded me of my aunts 586 computer, 2.1GB HDD.
  14. I remember when I did chkdsk it just said 1 or more errors has been detected. I don't remember anything else saying the errors has or has not been dealt with. It's just the summary and no options. This is with chkdsk /p. Also, i tried the jumpers and they do fit, I was just wondering if there can be a compability issue. About the CDROM and HDD I'm asking because I have 2 HDD on 1 IDE cable, and then this DVD-RW and HDD on other IDE, and this HDD was not recognized.
  15. Hello. I was working on my old computer and one of the HDD's give me a problem. Now I was wondering. Is it possible to have your DVD-RW as master or slave and a HDD as slave or master? I wanted to use all my 3 HDD's and the 1 DVD-RW. Also are the CD-ROM's/DVD-RW/CD-RW's jumpers usable for HDD? I think I lost a jumper for one of my HDD and I want to use from one of my CD/DVD RW/ROMS (I have 3 of them lol) Also, when you do a chkdsk and it reports it has 1 or more errors, what is the next step? I checked my HDD and I received that but then I have no clue what I can do to try to fix those errors or what not.
  16. What exactly is the advantage to have SSD over HDD other than be able to drop the thing and data will not get corrupted?
  17. I was wondering if this windows 7 will also come in the 32 and 64 bit. And if yes, will the 32 as well will mean you won't be getting more than 3.5gb of RAM? If yes again, then why even bother. Why can't they just concentrate on 64 bit type, and then everyone from software to games will concentrate in being compatible with the 64 bit type platform. I hate how I can't have more than 3.5 gb ram in win xp since if you go with the 64 bit version 90% of your programs won't work. Btw, is this the case with vista too? is the 64 bit a lot less compatible with programs than vista 32bit?
  18. That would take so long, and I barely have any space in my case. I guess I could do that as a last resort, when something is wrong. Anyway, I tried that usb thing on my flash mp3 player but it dosen't really work. Now what I did was un-rar it and get the .exe and put it in the flash drive. Hopefully I didn't had to leave it as a .exe.zip I have also tried the following things in BIOS to try to boot up from the flash drive, but it just skipped to HDD. "ZIP / USB-FDD / USB-ZIP / USB-CDROM / USB-HDD / Pioneer DVD (which seems is the same as CD-ROM, which is my Pioneer DVD)". I did not try LS120 (no clue what it is) and Legacy LAN (the name kinda gave it away). So did I did the correct steps? EDIT: Or I guess the mp3 player is not bootable. I was thinking of buying one of those 4GB voyagers for 20$. Looks like a nice investment.
  19. Hi. yes Windows Diagnostics runs fine on this machine. No I don't have another mobo to try on. This machine works perfect from what I could see, except very few BSOD's. I will try the flash version, however I kinda don't have a flash memory. I hope my flash mp3 player might work, will try it tomorrow
  20. So my windows updater has the SP3 ready for instalation. Now my question is should I? I just don't want to get more headache with program un-stability, etc. I understood that all the individual packs are covering what SP3 is including. So? Thanks
  21. So yea, ever since I got this computer memtest is just freezing my computer after "Loading......................." when it tries to boot from the CD. Is it my motherboard? The same CD runs memtest on my old Athlon XP 1600+ I have tried running memtest with each stick of ram individually, and also changing their slots. Any ideas of how I can trouble shoot it and see if it's indeed the motherboard? I don't really have any other problems with my mobo. E6750 GA-P35-DS3R Corsair 2x1GB 800mhz (TWIN2x2048-6400C4) HIS 4870
  22. Got it all done. Cheers
  23. I would like to keep my Western Digital HDD as it is now with C and D, and this seagate HDD which I have to create the partition and format to remain as E. I tried both primary and extended (and then make it a logical drive) and I can select the next available letter, which is E. Now the only question is which is more advantageous to choose from, aside that from what it looks you loose an extra 8mb if you choose extended (8 for extended and then 8 more when set it as a logical drive)
  24. I was wondering if I should bother looking into a 2007 copy or just stick with my 2002 copy. What is new? What improvements are there? Thanks
