  1. Trying out Norman Virus Control at the moment. It's got an interesting "sandbox" feature which is supposed to catch new, unknown malware and retain it in the Sandbox so it's isolated from the OS ... Seems good and low on resource usage and so far it's promising ...
  2. @rhythmnsmoke - Yes I saw it alright, and can give you the credit that indeed - 1: You did NOT fake the demonstration 2: ImmE works as advertised - very impressive (!) 3: dman, who's joined a meeting as well is convinced too, that you have a point in revealing this to us So keep on going - ImmE will probably go a long way if it picks up on the market. -It may be overkill on many personal computer configurations but indeed it seems to secure the machine a good deal. Greets - Jacob
  3. I'd have to say if you want a good full-blown registry cleaner without any bloated interface that's been through years of development you should go for Regsupreme or Regsupreme Pro from www.macecraft.com ... Just remember to be cautious when using the program and don't use any "aggressive" setting. unfortunately - which is the only bad thing I can say about the above mentioned - they're payware although you might be able to find an old free version made issued before it turned into payware. Greets - Jacob.
  4. @jcarle If your response was directed at me I can only say you'll have to wait until a trial of the program is readily available - and so will I. Until that happens there's no harm in watching a demo. Won't cost you anything. Just my two cents. Greets - Jacob.
  5. Last night I attended rhythmnsmoke's demo. I'd say it looks like a very impressive piece of SW. Of course it's not an antivirus and works with a different approach. I can only say to all you sceptics who are so eager to walk over rhythmnsmoke to deny the possible success of his (or his company's) software - lay off! You can't judge anything you haven's seen in any way. You can't judge it by simply taking his words for a great big bluff. I highly respect that the man took about 1 h 45 m to demonstrate how it works to me (during a live meeting) - and that was not pre-recorded. Simple as that. so if you're only here to criticize - go to another thread and don't bother about ImmE. I'd hope for some of you who are still following this thread that you'd take your time and join a meeting - rhythmnsmoke said he'd make an other during this weekend - so - go and see for yourselves. That is if you're not too narrow-minded. don't mean to sound harsh here but this thread has a certain stages balanced on the edge of flaming. people should be respectful and noble enough to stand away from such behaviour. Let's hope that'll improve in future threads. Greets - Jacob.
  6. You should check your BIOS setup - you'll probably find a setting to make a beep when everything is checking up on boot (ram, CPU etc. ...) and if you don't want the beep you can just disable that. Hope you find it in there somewhere. Greets - Jacob
  7. Yeah I saw that's the main purpose - but they also state this in the FAQ: So I guess it's a good supplement to A/V software or to try out programs without neccessarily making permanent changes to your partition - right? - or to protect from viruses and other malware ...
  8. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sharedaccess/faq.mspx I just found that and I find it sounds interesting to use for safeguarding your XP installation ... Has anyone here tried the tool to see what it does - it's a beta so it's free for genuine M$ owners - what do you guys think? Download here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=47025 Greets Jacob
  9. @Jeremy I agree with you here - it's a great piece of software ... However - if you only need the reg. cleaner part of it - Regsupreme Pro of the same company is probably even better than jv16. @D.Arbib You can try both free for one month - just go to www.macecraft.com and download it
  10. ceez I'd highly recommend Mini-stream Ripper I converted some .ram files with that once and it worked really well. They've a free demo available so you can try it a month or so ... *edit* Ah - I just realized you want to convert video streams - so msr won't help you then - it can only convert audio files - sorry!
  11. - another brand that is worth recommendation is Verbatim - they're almost exclusively made by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. - and pretty stable, good quality - just my 5 cents Greets Jacob
  12. Ok rhythmnsmoke, I've now installed Anti-Executable to see what it's worth ... btw to avoid messing your OS up completely another time you may want to run such testing in an isolated environment - i.e. in a virtual machine inside your main setup - that's what I do to test betas of AV's and other security SW - Which I do a lot ... That way you only have to delete that particular installation if something goes apes*** ... You can use VMWare or Virtual PC for this ... Seems clever that AE scans the 'puter initially upon setup for your current environment - so I guess then it's unneccessary to open-and-close programs after installing AE which was neccesary with that ProcessGuard we tested earlier ... A shame that it ruined your installation though - how on earth did you manage that - I suppose it's safer to run as restricted user EVEN when runnning AE ... Till next time - keep up the mood ! Regards Jacob
  13. I couldn't agree more chilifrei64 ... Well said!
  14. Good to hear that! *mumbles:"goddam spysh*t" ...*
  15. Hi Messerschmitt ... Have you tried updating your cd-writer's firmware ... ? That might solve some of the problem ... Also I'd recommend you switch your slave/master around so that the cd-writer is set to master and the cd-rom is set to slave ... When this is done you should set bios settings regarding the drives to <auto> except you might need to set the boot order to 1:cd-writer 2:cd-rom or hdd 3:hdd or cd-rom Hope this can be of help to you.
  16. I had a similar problem once - I would advice you to do in the following order: 1. try ad-aware SE first - download from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ Install - do a full system scan - clean what you find with a FULL system scan - and reboot ... 2. - followed by a cleaning with spybot S&D download here http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html - Install - clean (full system scan) - restart 3. And lastly Spysweeper (just get the trial) here http://www.webroot.com/downloads/ sweep the system with a full scan and clean - and restart - *edit Oh - and remember to log on as admin when doing the installing and cleaning otherwise you won't get anywhere ...* If you like you can uninstall ad-aware SE and the rest when done - Hope this helps ...
  17. Maybe you could try Showshifter - that should be allright too ...
  18. It's the "M$ of burning" so it's fine. I even bought the whole suite nero 6 reloaded because I liked it so much... So I recommend it alright.
  19. http://omiomail.zzn.com/email/english/logi...domain=omiomail Free e-mail in a bundle of languages ...
  20. And jv16 Power Tools - except it's payware - pay attention what you do with it though - you can really screw your setup with it but at the same time it's a very effective reg. cleaner (Regsupreme Pro is equal - but is without a few added features that jv16 has) ...
  21. Yeah, I'd agree it's a good place to 'hang around' - I just keep the msfn forum page open im my browser while at work doing my job and peep at it during my breaks and at home I keep it open while my computers are up and running - some new thread or reply just might tick in any minute - it's not addiction to MSFN - it's passion ...
  22. OR - forum.doom9.net - excellent forum - regarding video- and audio de- and encoding, players, DVD conversion, screen capturing and more ... Take a look - the main site is http://doom9.net Good luck!
  23. Well rhythmnsmoke, I partially agree with ^_^ here ... You could, as proposed lend few of us the "old" version ImmE so that we could test it on our own as long as that's in a controlled amount I see no harm in that possibility. Anyway - as long as that's an "old" version it'll not hit the shops anyway - like a beta version or so - right ...? I'm already BT for F-secure, AVG and Symantec so it'd be a real treat to try this piece of SW. If you're afraid it'd spread to P2P and warez places I'd say you need to be sure not to hand it out to just anybody of course ... But as long as you keep it very tight I see no risk, really. Glad about your info though regarding PG compared to ImmE ... Keep on going - maybe you'd take your time to make a comparison between ImmE and that Anti-Executable I mentioned in another post ... Kind regards Jacob
  24. Well, guys - thread is still here so - guess there's some interest in it - know what I mean ... Or - hint - number of views is currently 7312 - that pretty darn much I'd say ... so maybe that's part of the reason i guess ...
  25. Well, rhythmnsmoke ... As ^_^ stated it could be nice to try that old version of ImmE to compare with other security software. I guess ProcessGuard is not quite what I was after but if someone here on the forum tried it and liked it - oh well - I guess it wasn't all in vain to direct attention to it. After all it comes as a free or (more advanced) paid software. I've come across similar-to-ProcessGuard software recently as well. That's Faronics' Anti-Executable which seems to work in a similar fashion ... Gonna try that in a day or so. Maybe that works in safe mode etc. ... I guess maybe you would want to let some here on the forum try your 'old' version ImmE to see whether it's usable in real-life practise in their environment ... the link to that Faronics Anti Executable is as follows: http://www.faronics.com/html/AntiExec.asp (remember - somewhere in this long thread someone suggested that Deep Freeze from that same software company was comparable to ImmE) @^_^ - If you go buy the PG software let us know how it performs with the added functionality - does it make it stronger etc. ? I appreciate teh interest in this huge thread, I must say, good job, lads! That's it for now ... Gonna hit the sack till tomorrow. Greets Jacob
