Why do you think it's bloated - there's merely a gui coming w/ it - handy for testing your GFX card etc. ...

@Phyridean, @Zxian - Here's another (seemingly) useful resource for IpSec: http://hfnetchk.shavlik.com/support/ipsec/ipsec_scan.htm And: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=76806 -But can this really be used as a firewall (comparable to other sw firewalls) - I'm bewildered about this More info needed ... Regds. - Jacob

Just got the update today automated via check for updates ... link: http://www.kerio.co.uk/kpf_releasehistory.html and http://www.kerio.com/kpf_releasehistory.html So it seems Kerio keeps releasing updates so far even though they stated it won't be supported much longer. Hats off to Kerio - I just wish they'd re-evaluate the decision to stop developing the Personal Firewall ... - regds. - Jacob

[Contest] Design the new Vista box
techniquefreak replied to Scubar's topic in Graphics and Designing Art
matt5108 - don't need to find the cd - just dl' it from the internet - that's if you have a proper connection - go to adobe.com and get it there ... -
Well, this topic puzzles me, guys ... How can these steps prevent viruses and malware spreading from one partition to an other ... ? Since the system "knows" there's the other partition regardless of what is shown in disk management and elsewhere ... the partitions must be recognized on boot - no? (unless you make it a Linux kind of partition) regds. Jacob

acrobat alternative: recommendation needed
techniquefreak replied to graysky's topic in Software Hangout
Maybe I came in a little late in this thread, but I recall trying Ghostscript in combination w/ a small gui for this called gsview - that worked well , got search functions and doesn't load a zillion plugins during initialization ... try it ! -
Kerio Personal Firewall EOL 31/12/05
techniquefreak replied to rikgale's topic in Networks and the Internet
Well, with Sygate (taken over by Symantec) and now Kerio, that's hard to tell, isn't it ... but those are - as long as it applies - two major players in the software firewall market - and my personal favourites ... let's cross our fingers for someone coming up w/ a similarly brilliant product. -

techniquefreak replied to rikgale's topic in Networks and the Internet
@rikgale - http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=54986 Same info - posted by me some time ago ... - but yes, that's extremely sad - the end of a very good software firewall ... - regds. - Jacob -

Well, I guess you could pick up Kazaa Lite or Emule and just search for small files w/ *.exe extensions or just small *.zip - you can be sure to pick up lotsa viruses this way - only you don't know the kind till you analysed them ...
-
Well, isn't the size larger because the file you're referring to is a cd image? I should think it'd end up being approx. the same size as the current, downloadable, version of Nero Reloaded ...

You know, if you can live w/o hardcore command line parameters, DVD Lab Pro might be the way to go. Another (free though) option is: h**p://www.mpucoder.com/Muxman/ -which is an newcomer from the author of IfoEdit - that fact alone makes Muxman a real promising Authoring program. You you got lots of $$ you'd buy Scenarist which retails for about $40.000 I think - among others, The Matrix was (probably) authored using that. - greets - Jacob.

I think you have to move to Linux for that ...
-
@phkninja - why don't you just uninstall the retail version and put back the free ed. ? hat is if you haven't come to like so much the retail ed. that you must own it ... regds. Jacob.

Zxian - I quite like the free ed. of bitdefender - but I too tried the full one and didn't like it much either - maybe because it brought my 400 MHz 128 Mb ram laptop to it's knees - or maybe because I hate security products - "internet security"-like - that integrate spyware- virus- and firewall protection - I like to choose each part as I see fit - but that's just me Right now I favour most Symantec Corp 9 and kerio personal firewall 4 - can't be beaten in my opinion ... - regards Jacob.

counterspy-cool antispyware program
techniquefreak replied to ripken204's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
i told counterspy to ignore the crap that it found <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What ???? So you do trust Sunbelt's software - yet don't delete the spyware it finds - I'm puzzled -
As a sidenote, I recently tried McAfee Virusscan Enterprise 8.0i - it seems pretty stable and good - and not so flash looking as many others. Also it's pretty well laid out interface-wise. Can be configured quite specifically - which is nice. Recommended.

I use paint occasionally - when logged on to a computer w/o another image program or after fresh install when i've not yet installed such a program ... That being said - it's extremely limited in function. Wonder when they (M$) "unofficially" stopped development on ms paint, deciding it was good for another 10 years - LOL ...

Kerio Personal Firewall to be discontinued
techniquefreak replied to techniquefreak's topic in Networks and the Internet
Well, it's good enough to have backups but still development will seize on the product which is bad - also from a security point of view ... offtopic - yeah, that reply in that other forum about the member feeling it's a bit gay - that's a pretty funny reply ... LOL
