I noticed that MSFN recently added a Google Search Box to the MSFN pages. I would guess that this was done to encourage users to search a bit before posting: an idea I agree with. When I first saw this box, it was on the bottom of each page. Today I find it at the top of the page, in prime real estate space. My browser opens up in an 800X600 window. With the google box, I now have to scroll down just to see if there are any new posts in a forum. Previously, I would rarely put stickies threads in the XPCREATE forum, just to be able to see the new posts. This is no longer the case: even without stickies, I need to scroll down to get to the posts. An option could be to re-design the Google form to place the radio buttons on the side, and reduce the height of the form. Obviously this is not a life or death matter. However, I've had such good luck ... I thought I'd mention it!

Upon further review ... I think the missing SATA drivers are caused by a bug that has been resolved in the 11 June 2004 release. You may want to update to the latest version ...

help changing default background in 2k
GreenMachine replied to THRiLL KiLL's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Sorry, THRiLL KiLL, I don't know, and I don't have a Windows 2000 version up and running. You are, of course, welcome to post here, but this question may do better in another forum. -
Thanks, SlimShady, we'll get that included with the next update. Any other takers? (Or more correctly, givers?)
-
Looks like some got lost in the new version ... I emailed them, I think I sent them to the right address. If you did not get the mail, let me know ...

I did not see your first post. Google snapshots are fine: as you said, the link is dead. The second post is to a web site that appears to be that of member SteelTrepid, whom I must respectfully ask to remove my files from that server. Please, please, please, do as I do, and only link to my web site, which will always contain the link to the latest version. Please? Pretty please? Thanks, THRiLL KiLL, for tracking that down.
-
Hmmm. Those are NOT mine. Thanks for the info!

Please, I would really like to eliminate the ZIP version if it is still out there somewhere. Could you PM me a link, or a link to the page, or something? I cannot find the ZIP version anywhere, and you cannot find the EXE version. I just don't understand how it is still out there somewhere. Help me understand, please.

Something strange ... When I download from the XPCREATE Web Site (links in signature) I get the 11 June 2004 version. Furthermore, XPCREATE.EXE installs the version with AutoDownload, whereas XPCREATE.ZIP is the non-AutoDownload version, which I cannot find on the XPCREATE Web Site.

Getting new version of XPCREATE to load from HDD
GreenMachine replied to THRiLL KiLL's topic in XPCREATE
Seriously ... just let XPCREATE do it's thing for the first run, It WILL set everything up just fine. That means DO NOT edit XPCREATE.INI yourself until AFTER the first run. Good Luck! -
You do not have the latest version.
-
I just ran XPCREATE from scratch, and do not get that error. LOGFILES.CAB. It is small, the only personal information that is may contain is directory structure, and it stands a much better chance at helping me see the light than a few lines or screen output. In XPCREATE.INI, you can set DLAUTO=NO, and then use any files you choose. Once SP1 (or SP1A) is slipstreamed, it will not be downloaded or slipstreamed a second time.

Does a Setup Screen database exist?
GreenMachine replied to hevnbnd's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
No questions, just a note of appreciation to another user helping out. Thanks! -
Hmmm. I hate to burst your bubble, but please re-read the EULA you agreed to upon installation, and contact me.

Getting new version of XPCREATE to load from HDD
GreenMachine replied to THRiLL KiLL's topic in XPCREATE
Ahhhh. Having automated as much as possible, there may be a bug there ... However, if you just let XPCREATE do it's thing for a first run, it will copy the CD to the directory CDSOURCE, extract the boot image, slipstream the source if needed, and use this HDD copy for all subsequent creations. Manually, you may need to update COPYSOURCE in XPCREATE.INI, as well as BOOTIMG, and place the bootimage and the source in the corresponding directories. -
How to know which cards are on your computer ?
GreenMachine replied to Jjazz's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Yes, Bilou_Gateux, there are better command line tools for this. However, I have come to the conclussion that not everyone is like me ... and some even prefer GUI programs to the command line! The DriverGuide Toolkit is not free, but in fact, I usually use it just before a re-format, so even a one-day trial version is OK for my purposes. There is a previous version, that is not as complete, but is free, and includes a license which states "Free to distribute", or something like that. FthrJACK posted it at one point, and I have a copy that I hope to add to the web site ... one of these days. I do have, and have had for quite a while, a downloadable, bootable diskette creator, that will create a boot diskette that will automatically run a PCI Bus Sniffer and Report Generator, for those that have no fear of the command line type tools. It is on XPCREATE's Download Page: http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com/XPCREATE/download.htm There are many tools, most based on Craig Hart's work (linked above, PCIDEVS.TXT, etc.), that are perfectly suited to this task. -
using MagicISO for winnt.sif
GreenMachine replied to s33m33's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Looks like you just voided the warranty! XPCREATE uses those switches, it is true, but I think it is the only one ... those switches really prefer 8.3 UPPERCASE file names ... -
Much as I hate to admit it, I got the same error last night. It was late, and I was trying to "cut some corners". I re-used some repacked installers from XPCREATE ... Fortunatly. we had a power outage, I went to bed, and a "clean" run this morning is fine. Still don't know which was the guilty party, but I just slapped myself for not listening to me, and forgot about it.
-
Thanks, Radimus, for the kind words! If that is all you have ... missed ... on your first run, I'd say that is PDG!

As I had listed 8.3 name creation on the "Before You Begin" section, and it still seems to be ... ignored ... I implemented a spy to check if it was enabled. I find it a tad bit frustrating, and a whole lot time-wasting to answer questions that are so clearly stated on the Web Site. I mean, it's not like the XPCREATE Web Site has all that much to read ... Thanks, THRiLL KiLL, for putting it into a 1-2-3

Getting new version of XPCREATE to load from HDD
GreenMachine replied to THRiLL KiLL's topic in XPCREATE
I don't get it ... XPCREATE.INI cannot be modified to look on the HDD for the files as such. With DLAUTO=YES, XPCREATE will download files that are not locally present, and have the correct MD5 checksum. With DLAUTO=NO, XPCREATE will use the files on the HDD without verification of any sort. If that doesn't answer your question, please reformulate the question so I understand ... -
Thanks, fellahs. It seems Macromedia has updated the Flash installer, thus the MD5 checksum change. Note that the Flash version number has NOT changed.
-
Still haven't had a change to look at this, and I do, as mdes, install it upon reboot. @mdes: I install Q831167 from SVCPACK.INF, and as long as QCHAIN is used, I have no problem. Without QCHAIN, however, it does install, but is overwritten on reboot. This is the only real life example I have come across that requires QCHAIN. Still, one is enough ...

Thanks once again, Virindi. Believe me, I understand ... It is neither a particulary fun, nor rewarding job ... more than 10 different OS versions, more than a dozen languages ... GreenMachine gets the glory, you get the dirty work ... Come on folks, help a poor guy out here! For those that have not yet created a list for their non-included OS, get of your lazy butts! Those that have a correction to make, perhaps you could actualy update the TXT file, and post it. That way it is just replacing a file for Virindi, as oposed to editing it. Concerning SWFLASH: it seems the installer has once again been updated, yet the FLASH version itself has not changed. Much ado about nothing ... Thanks, Macomedia ...
