Completed XP Setup Screens
GreenMachine replied to Aaron's topic in Setup Billboard Screens for Windows
errrrrr.... WHAT? 1. WHY would you have the stop button every time? 2. the avatar I have now is ALSO animated 3. why did'nt you just ask me to change it.... 4. there actually ARE people who liked it... 1. Because hitting the STOP button stops GIFs from animating. 2. If it is, it ain't on my IE: fine by me! 3. Because I didn't want to offend you ... 4. I'm not even going there ... I don't mind a one time animation, but I simply find looped animations distracting. I developed Web Sites in the early Internet years, and I was soooo happy when animated gifs stopped being the latest rage. It's not a big deal, and maybe it is just me, but I did avoid your posts because of the avatar. -
Multiple PC Configurations
GreenMachine replied to Denney's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I used to do someting similar, in that I would generate a .REG file, and then import with REGEDIT /S. It allows adding logic (IF ... THEN), as well as the ability to import registry settings from variables, something a static .REG file cannot do. Now I use REG.EXE in my batch files instead, with the disadvantage that it seems to be quite a bit slower, as it calls the program once per registry entry, as opposed to the "all at once" REGEDIT method. Just a couple alternatives to consider ... -
Driverpack Sound - V5.03.1 & V5.03
GreenMachine replied to Bâshrat the Sneaky's topic in The General Stuff
Hi there Bash ... Maybe you could add a visible link to that download page. I must have disabled cross domain redirection or something, and it just sits on the blank page for me: I looked at the HTML source and found the link. Thanks for compliing the collection! Greetings from an old Mirano client: Vive Bxl! -
If you have a good connection, I would start the whole thing again. Like I said, it is probably something quite silly (could also be in YOUR files, if you have a WINNT.SIF or something). If your connection is good, and you have enought time, let it run on it's own. As it could be anything, it'll probably be quicker in the long run. Still, there is the possibility that I'm wrong, and it happens again ... I'm just basing this on experience.

Was that aimed at me: THEIR? OK, I edit my post from thier to their before Alanoll snagged me!

GreenMachine replied to Andries's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Thanks again, Jotnar, looks like you've got this security thing wotked out pretty good! I like the password dumper/importer. You must work in some high security place, like a bank, or XXX site ... -
Now I do ... That was during my move, and I never hit the "previous page" button. At least it wasn't in a post a replied to! (Gotta lay off that French Pastis ... )

how to determine if machine has cdr ?
GreenMachine replied to mniccum's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Now that you mention it, isn't there a command line interface to the Device Manager? DevCon, or something? -
I think both Type I and II hotfixes have "fingerprints" that would be easy to find. Type II probably have "WEXTRACT.EXE" somewhere, as that is the extractor engine. Type one have a file inside UPDATE.EXE. For IExpress packages, I like to define the Window Title (don't remember the option name, but it exists). I've also stopped repacking into switchless exe's, and add prompts "Do you wish to install ..." and "... completed", and then call the repacks with the /Q:A and /R:N switches if needed. IExpress also has "special" treatment of a designated .inf file, but I have not delved into that at all. Perhaps it is as simple as calling the default install in the inf, I really do not know. If you go this route ... keep us posted as to how it works!

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning That should tell you something. Alternativly, CDRECORD (perhaps called CDR Tools now?) can be used. It involves a reasonable knowledge of command scripting. -
I seem to rember that the fellow who wrote WinImage had something along those lines, but I may be mistaken ... I can't place it, but I know I came across something like that when searching for tools to extract/create SFX floppy images. As for WinRAR, I know am not your "typical fan of the game", but I do not install WinRAR, as it is not free, and I don't like the way it "takes over". I do, however, use the free command line version (surprise, surprise)

disabling "Getting Started w\ Win2k" screen@login
GreenMachine replied to stuffman's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Is that only on the server version? -
There you have it! I don't have any major updates like that up my sleeve, or in the planning, at this time ...
-
Caught me: I haven't been testing with all browsers lately. Even worse, I'm not setup for Web authoring at the moment. Soon ... and thanks for pointing it out. Break down for a minute and use IE: the page is worth seeing!

On the money, Virindi. With download errors, I continue downloading from the list till the end, and then error out. Writing that code, I was seeking to reduce my debug time to a minimum. Then, I only debug my own error traps, and not a BSOD that really doesn't interest me. As for iOpus itself, it really is only an added bonus. Programing a file download is neither innovative, nor interesting. I spent very little time coding it, and will not spend much time debugging it. Like some German site said about XPCREATE, and I quote ... "Freeware"
-
If you used a combination of XPCREATE CD and Original CD, I would strongly recomment NOT using that installation for more than testing. It is to silly to already be at an unknown state upon initial installation. Multiple errors like that are almost always a fluke: One corrupted hotfix, a bad sector, a hiccup somewhere. Something silly.

I seemed to have missed this post last week. I've had no time lately, but this looks doable for XPCREATE, maybe ... I think I can easily do that from a batch file. Thanks again, ToBe, I'll look when I can! Sadly, my ToDo list seems to be growing, and the only copy is in my local memory ...
-
My favorite second grade character! Welcome to MSFN, George. You can call me The Man in the Yellow Hat! I would suggest you simply to a first run of XPCREATE as is, then edit XPCREATE.INI with DLAUTO=NO, and remove what you do not want. It will not check your files anymore. As for the files you want to add, they should ONLY go into FILESCD, which are never touched, just copied to the final product.

So ... I'm like ... wicked slow. But I know, it happens to me, too. I suppose if I had actually clicked on the link provided ... But, enuffsaid, if I may flatter, I do know who you are, and read your posts. However, I almost never read the stuff in the code blocks, unless it is about the size of 'MaC's. Wicked slow, wicked lazy, and easily confused!

Upon further review ... those are all Type II Hotfixes, which are not defined as "Slipstreamable" by Microsoft. You should be able to put them in SVC-POS and be OK. Give it a go, then give us a holler with your findings!
