I was thinking about upgrading to RAID but I have no experience with it so i'd like to ask you all this. I wanted to place two partitions in a RAID drive; one for windows and one for my documents. Now, when i go to format windows (i.e. the first partition) this will have no effect on the secondary... right ? thx

You probably performed disk clean up with 'compress old files' checked. I don't find any problems with having compressed files on my HD... open fine without having to decompress. is there actually a downside?

hello everyone! Okay, i want to install games on a seperate partition so i don't have to reinstall them eveytime i format the PC. If i do that, will there be any problems playing them after i format them? I know that the registry entries of the installation won't b there (is there any way to back it up), and i know that some savegames aren't in the Dir but that's not a problem. P.S. Will Steam and HL:2 all be working after if install it in a seperate partition, after formatting windows?

oh yeah, i also have an Audigy 2 installed in the same PC and was also after i installed it that the problems came about... could be because of that? Even though the Audigy is there, the SoundMax is still selected as the sound playback device but it still won't work until i reinstall drivers after every reboot...

hey i finally got it working... just disabled all the IDE HDs in the BIOS so that there was only partition which finally stayed at C:\!! thanks for the help

Hello. I have an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe (i875 chipset) and it works great. However the sound card is given me problems. When I boot up Windows, everything seems fine under device manager but the sound just simply doesn't work. If I reinstall drivers, the sound works but as soon as I restart or shutdown and boot up again the sound doesn't work (even though everthing seems fine; no errors or anything under device manager) and i have to re-reinstall the drivers and it will work fine again until I have to restart. -I've used both the bundled drivers and the newest from ASUS -This problem started around when i installed "Intel Chipset INF update" which also gave me other problems with the network card and USB. Could this be causing my problem? How can I remove it... it's not under Add/Remove programs or anything. Appreciate the help from MSFN community!

bah... I contact tech support and they told me to wait for new official drivers, guess i'll do that. thanks anyways guys.

ya it detects the card well and most games work fine... the one's giving me trouble are UT 2003, UT 2004 and Half Life 2. I've tried everything but formatting seems to be the only way... even playing games in safe mode but it doesn't seem to work

that's what i've been doing all along until i got SATA and it became the H:\... weird. i'll try again later today

hi guys, I have a laptop and a computer, both have a wireless network card and firewire. the wireless connects directly to the internet through a wireless router but sometimes i would like to copy files faster through FireWire. Everytime I enable firewire in both the computers and give them an IP manually, internet stops working for both. Same if i enable DHCP or leave on get IP automatically. Anyone help me with the configuration or lead me to a tutorial? thanks

Does anyone have problems when switching between GPUs? I have an NVIDIA Geforce 6600 GT AGP and GeForce 4 Ti 4200. Games, especially Half Life 2, doesn't appear to work when I switch graphics cards and I'm always having to format windows when I change GPU... I have tested a whole range of drivers from the official to beta releases and all give me a black screen as soon as gameplay starts... any suggestions? I've checked forums from Valve and NVIDIA but didn't find anything. Thanx

Hey guys! I finally got SATA and installed windows on it... works great only that on installation it was placed under drive letter H:\ and I can't change drive letters of the system drive... I didn't do anything out of normal when installing windows... The HD only has two partitions, the primary is the one used for windows. It's really inconvenient to use H:\ and I was wondering how i can put it back to C:\!!! Thanks

Okay, i've got a folder and with lots of files and folders and by default, XP sorts everything by filename but puts all the folders before the files. Is it possible to sort by filename but in a ways that would include folders? Thanks, Gui.

Anyone know if it's possible to disable DEP with a registry tweak? Heard about disabling it through the boot.ini file (??) but didn't follow the method at all... any help is appreciated

hello! this the first time i tried this n i have a little problem. i download the UltimateBootCD v2.4. I boot from the cd fine and i load up Bart's Boot CD and mount the winXP image. Know i run dir command on the mounted drive and try running winnt.exe but the thing is no HD's are found... how do i do a network installation by mounting a drive?

how exactly does WinXP benefit from SATA? i know it has a larger bandwidth but does that cause the big difference?
