  1. okay, but I guess it does not explain the slow-opening folders.
  2. not at all... just a three or four folders with .doc word files... I was checking out what it could be, and i found out one thing out of the ordinary. I went under Properties->Security and there was this weird user named: S-1-2...(a bunch of random n's and letters) Some other folders in the same drive have this user as well with no apparent permissions set. I can not remove it either... what is it?
  3. Hey! I have a pretty much a huge file collection in 5 HDs (+/- 700GB) and certain folders ALWAYS take like 4 or 5 seconds longer than extra to open. Well, I've defragmented and tried moving the folder and moving it back. Any ideas why? neither of these folders have too much content, so that's not the issue either. thx
  4. did u consider a fresh install? It's not too much hassle to load up your drive in slave mode in another PC and backup ur files... Anyways, I never managed to get switching MOBOs w/ one drive working... If u do, plz tell me how!

    Dpi Settings

Still no luck. Yes i've played with the settings back and forth and inserted the CD when they asked for it... the text changes fine but the icons i mentioned before, still no luck. How can I check if the files from the CD were actually copied correctly?

    Dpi Settings

Hello! I hooked up my PC to the HDTV and increased the DPI settings to 120. Now I restored it back to 96dpi but many icons (like quick launch, taskbar , start menu folder icons, minimize and exit buttons) remain large. What should I do?
  9. I've purchased ZoomPlayer 4.03 Professional and I was wondering if anyone has managed to get DVD playback working with NVDVD decoder. I've tried MANY other filters and they all give a filter error like this: Filter Connection Error: [NVIDIA Video Decoder].Video Output ---> [Overlay Mixer].Input0 Not all filters can connect properly. If filter is listed.... ... ... Additional Information: 80040207: There is no common media type between these pins. I get pretty much this same error whenever I use almost ANY DVD video or audio decoder (even AC3FIlter). The only one that managed to work so far was Sonic DVD Decoder. I think this is due to some Zoomplayer configuration error because these filters work flawlessly under TheaterTek DVD Player. Thanks in advance
  10. Thanks svasutin, really helped. I still have one doubt though, I have a NEC Plasma (52MP3 is the model nº, i think). Anyways, I've been hearing that u can greatly improve DVD quality by using FFDShow to resize the video to HDTV resolutions. Is this really the case, and if so, what is the best GPU for this. I've had some bad experiences using DVI cable with my HDTV, is there an alternative High Definition connection? My TV supports 1080i and 720p, which would i be better off using? In terms of the other hardware you already helped and i know the way to go. I will not really be using HTPC to watch and record TV, so a TV card isn't really necessary. Is the ATI all in wonder pro still ur suggestion? Thanks.
  11. Hello! I want to buy and setup a home theatre PC in the living room. I've got a NEC Plasma HDTV w/ a DVI connection. The main use will be to watch my DivX and Xvid movie collection I have on the network. The Plasma TV has a DVI Input, but is this the best connection? Are there other, better, high definition connections? I'm assuming that DVI is the best cable to use (right?), and i've also been reading about using FFDShow filter which apparently can greatly improve the quality. anyone have any experience or suggestions about this? Is it worth it? Thanks
  12. U rock Iceman, thanks loads
  13. Really long ago i password protected a folder to prevent other ppl from accessing it. The thing is, i think i used TweakXP's folder protection utility, but when i try to unlock it, it says 'folder unlocked' however i still can not open the folder (windows gives me an access denied error message). Now i'm not sure if it was tweak XP that i used, but i do know the password i would've used to protect a folder... Is there anyway of recovering the files in that folder? there are some very important documents that i need to access pretty urgently. Thanks
  14. i am pretty paranoid about spyware and viruses so i am well protected and sure that's not the problem. Could Windows Washer (i installed it recently) be erasing some settings files?
  15. i'm no expert and i'm not sure if this is exactly what u want but u can create variables (like %systemroot%) and i suppose that could work. try going to control panel -> system -> advanced -> environment variables then u can create a system variable with a value which u should be able to access by just typing the variable name in cmd (i think). hope it helps!
  16. Okay, I have a scheduler installed called "Auto power-on" scheduled to open azureus daily at 01:00AM. It does open azureus at the scheduled time but it never opens properly... Azureus' settings are all messed up when it opens with the scheduler. None of my downloads appear on the list because the settings were re-set to default so the directory of the incoming torrents are wrong (hence none of the downloads appear). Now, if i open it manually, it will work normally. Weird, eh? Anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I've tried scheduling the program to open the exact shortcut file i use to open azureus manually, yet i still get that same problem. thanks
  17. hello! i've recently been having a problem where when i open some programs, their previous settings have been forgotten. For example, Winamp just today opened with default skins and all the personal configurations i had done were (i.e. hotkeys, etc.). Same happened with WinRAR and GetRight already, happens rather randomly. What could be making some programs do this sometimes? thx
  18. thx, prcview is exactly what i needed
  19. I looked a bit in the internet but couldn't find out how to make a program close through a batch file. simple question i know.... thanks
  20. hi! I got a new laptop which I take to school and use for work. Now my word files with my work are getting bundled up and i often don't know which versions are the most recent, which files I changed and it's all basically a mess. hope you understand more or less what i mean... Is there some software a simple technique to avoid this?
  21. okay I have a ASUS P4C800-E and i was thinking about buying 2 Raptors @ 10,000RPM and putting them with RAID 0. I know it'll show up as one HD and now i know that i can partition it. But messing around with one partition will have no affect on the other, i.e. reinstalling windows on the primary partition will still leave my movies in the other partition intact...
