  1. She also published the "Red Pill". 1- yes, she ! 2- it is probably serious. imho the main reason it should not work is some rights should be needed to use virtualization.
  2. Yes, they have a problem with alternate method. I think I'll recall some news website about this and see how much I can propagate the story : it's a real shame.
  3. A few words about this. First, compression method. Afaik files on the original CD are compressed using MSZIP cabinet compression. LZX cabinet is slower to compress, but faster to extract and outputs smaller files. Moreover it is 100% compatible. Btw CPU is not used a lot while extracting files, even when they are on a hard drive; decompression speed is certainly always the same. Now, I recently has the idea of cabing all the files in the same archive, not independentlly. It saves some space (10% of the CD). This needs more work, really more work before I can advise anyody to try it. You can make things better (mostly speaking of space) but you have to stick to cabinet because windows setup doesn't understand anything else (unless you want to reverse-engineering some files) And you as Wraith said, you can't please everyone, so just stick to current screens.
  4. Hi, guys. Yesterday my scanner fell from my chair (50cm fall). It's not completely destroyed : the scanning part is working absolutely normally. The problem is the moving part; it is blocked at the middle of its way on the right side, but not on the left side. It seems like a minor mechanical problem but I don't know how to solve it. I'll try to post a picture/video asap. Thanks for your help. PS: this is a canon canoscan Lide 30.

  6. Not necessarily : "technology news". I think it's pretty interesting. This is not warez, maybe hacking but not warez. Moreover you need a physical access to the computer and I don't know if it is able to retrieve passwords from a domain-controller or anything similar.
  7. Your display sucks. That's what is written in WLM. I found your desktop really nice, dock is wide but not high so it doesn't eat all your screen, and your wallpaper is warm and welcoming. PS: now I know how you rate Zxian... and other peoples!
  8. No need. This is one of my new best friend! Close Microsoft-DS! I was getting mad on components but when I tried a repair on my network adapter I saw this error with WINS and others. I thought "VMWare must be faulty" but this was a non-sense so I checked the tweak page of nlite. I thought this one was not ticked. On a buggy install, I opened regedit, went to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters and gave TransportBindName its normal value : "\Device\". This tweak seems to have been fixed recently. That's why the problem was not present in earlier versions. Also, this page seems interesting : http://www.petri.co.il/what's_port_445...w2k_xp_2003.htm (I'm still wondering what to do with Netbios and this is maybe the best page/website I ever found on this topic) B) Thanks for your connection repair idea.
  9. Please specify your chipset and NIC model. Do you have *any* unrecognized hardware in device manager ?
  10. Good news : I said the wole process could not be unattended. False! Now I have to work on it. However I have a few other things to do before.
  11. Exactly. However, not so strange : it would be too hard to estimate this correctly since all computers are different, on XP Pro for instance, you can install IIS or not, it is possible to add software installs thus making windows installation longer. You're welcome. It's always nice to help.
  12. Take a look at this page : http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/13 And this is the remaining time shown when you install windows. It's 100% arbitrary. PS: don't forget to read the rest of the guide.
  13. It may be much faster or not. It takes me less than 1 minute to start the windows installation and then it needs 2 or 3 minutes to copy files. My installation CD is really small and I have no RAID driver to load. Still, when I use a virtual machine, where files are read from the hard drive, it only takes 10 seconds to start windows installation and file copy needs 1 minute. If you have a big CD and RAID drivers to load during textmode part of the setup, then installing from a hard-drive will be much faster. Not because of transfer rates but because of access times.
  14. Indeed. I noticed it yesterday while I was reshacking my dll but forgot to change it. I'll probably make a new version, maybe with other dlls. I'm trying to make the reshacking automatic and I don't really know how does reshacker behaves. I think I will retrieve the content of the section, modify it with an autohotkey script and then let the user copy it to reshacker so he can click on 'compile script' (don't forget that one otherwise you will get corrupted things at the very beginning of the graphical mode install) PS: it think this was one of the only mistake, one of the first entry I copied.
  15. He probably didn't know what RTF was. Btw once you've typed it, you just need to find a friend with Word. Also, if I were you, I would have given my work in both formats telling my teacher just to try the rtf one before the doc and check if there is a difference. It's pretty handy when you translate something pretty long, underlined words helps a lot. Of course, not all errors are spotted but quite a few.
  16. So I can post my idea ?
  17. Guys, no need to wonder whether it is efficient or not!. source : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;196480and, from : http://windowssdk.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us...y/ms649579.aspx And in fact I'd like these guys outside to calm down. France won. OK, now is time to sleep.
  18. Web pages ! You can do anything. Take some XHTML 1.0 transitional, some CSS, print. One wonderful thing is the ability to have a background for a whole line, not just where you have text, but on the whole line! Everything is clean, you can make blocks, put them where you want to... Ok, I'm still inexperienced in Website coding but this seems really wonderful. And I'll see if I can find a place to try WordPerfect.
  19. Your drive problem is probably caused by "Close microsoft-DS". This tweak is not in winnt.sif. Since you're a beginner the easiest and fastest way to get it working is to make a new nlite iso without this tweak ticked. If you want instead, you can edit nlite.inf (nlite.in_ once compressed) and nlhive.inf, both in i386. They contain nlite's tweaks. To be precise, network drives use a protocol that uses port 445. So, network drives depend on a protocol and that protocol depends on port 445. Then, if you don't have the protocol installed network drives won't work. If you close Microsoft-DS port the protocol won't work normally and thus the drives won't. The reg file and the winnt.sif mod do not apply to the same level. You need the reg thing. As for T-12/T-13, this refer to the time remaining before the end of the installation (time minus 13 minutes) See this page : http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/13 As far as I'm concerned, I like cmdlines.txt because you don't have to bother with drive letters. More infos on this page : http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/14/ When a tweak is applied at this stage of windows setup, it is applied to all user accounts.
  20. B) Had to say that.
  21. Close Microsoft-DS port (445) did not work before RC8 I think. It prevents network drives from working. So with recent versions many users who used this tweak now have non-working network drives. (search the forum, you'll find what to do to reenable it) Also, visual tweaks don't work anymore because they did not really worked before and afaik nuhi tried a new method. Try importing this at T-13/T-13 : Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\AnimateMinMax] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ComboBoxAnimation] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\CursorShadow] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DragFullWindows] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DropShadow] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\FontSmoothing] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByFontTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListBoxSmoothScrolling] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewAlphaSelect] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewShadow] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewWatermark] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "MinimumMEM"=dword:00000054 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\MenuAnimation] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\SelectionFade] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TaskbarAnimations] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\Themes] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TooltipAnimation] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\WebView] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 Report if this is working please. Values there disable nearly all visual tweaks except "show content of the windows while dragging". Change DefaultValue according to your wishes.

    XP on 128mb CF?

    Really nice links jaclaz.
  23. It must be a component. Now I have to find the proper one.
  24. I get an error with NetBT in eventviewer when I install vmware tools. It happened with previous version. I'm checking right now whether it is winnt.sif related or not. following is at least half false: Ok, if you do not install "printer and file sharing for microsoft networks" (with winnt.sif) and install VMWareTools you will get NetBT errors in the event viewer. Solved by installing this protocol. I don't know if it happens when a NIC is discovered or when a compatible network is found. If you remove this protocol again, the error does not seem to appear again.
