This is what I use: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\AnimateMinMax] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ComboBoxAnimation] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\CursorShadow] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DragFullWindows] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\DropShadow] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\FontSmoothing] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByFontTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListBoxSmoothScrolling] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewAlphaSelect] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewShadow] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\ListviewWatermark] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "MinimumMEM"=dword:00000054 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\MenuAnimation] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\SelectionFade] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TaskbarAnimations] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\Themes] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\TooltipAnimation] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 "DefaultByAlphaTest"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VisualEffects\WebView] "DefaultValue"=dword:00000000 And regedit works perfectly at this stage. (regedit /s visual.reg)
  2. I don't have any fid* file in drivers. However, I have reg tweaks I import at T-12 to set my visual settings and I have abolutely no problem with them.
  3. Oops, misunderstood a bit. Whenever i'll need english lessons, i'll call you. I were only suggesting in an interogative form that this part of the review is entirely pointless, full of what we french frogs are naming "langue de bois". And my mother tells me "langue de bois" is "cant"/"waffle" in english. Seems weird but she's an english teacher so she's probably right. Documenting nlite is an easy thing but documenting Windows installation is a real pain. And moreover there are some things we know today, we didn't know last year. It's evolving too fast to have a big documentation. Hopefully not ! Ex: SysOC were there... /me tremble de tout ses membres et craint de devoir perdre une main : "Noooooon !" ++ As far as I remember Win9x uses a few big cab files whereas in NT5 each file is compressed individually (except for driver.cab of course). I'll try to find a 9x installation CD and see how it looks. (btw, editing a single bit in a cab files forces you to recompress the whole cab which is really time consuming so it is probably harder to experiment)
  4. I've been facing the same confusion since guides from MS always refer to unattended.txt. The winnt.sif nlite creates is enough on its own. You don't need to rename it or do anything else. If you need an unattended.txt, then you should do it yourself. nLite is far from offering all the available options in this file.
  5. Ok, ok. Here is his name : 6D 72 2E 62 72 6F 77 6E 73 74 6F 6E 65
  6. Beta is just more funny imho.
  7. Exactly, we want a new beta.
  8. wow..... a big happy family..... Family ? Where do you see a family ? There's no more family! And, back to the topic, as far as I know 9x versions are not supported because their installation is 99% different.
  9. These "programs" are more and more space-consuming. It does not explain a 800MB difference but afaik .Net 2 eats more space than .Net 1. I think you should try inside a VM with beta6 and final, without any software or update. It's hard to guess the impact of softwares.
  10. If the drive is not formatted yet, then it will not show up normally. You must have at least one active partition on it.
  11. This specific sequence should be a header. Right ?
  12. [mode=shouting] All 64-bit versions of all OSes will always take more memory. That's all. There's nothing that can be done. If you want to know if Vista 64-bit uses more RAM, you have to compare it with Vista 32-bit with PAE enabled. 64-bit lets you use more RAM because adresses in memory are encoded on 64-bit whereas they are encoded on only 32-bit on 32-bit processors. Makes sense no ? No ? Let's do some maths : 2^32 = 4*(2^10)^3 = 4GB. 2^64 = 16*(2^10)^6 = 16 somethingB. Now do you agree ? When a program is running it doesn't access variables using their names but using their adress in memory. And all these adresses have to be stored somewhere. I know it seems weird to store in memory things needed to access memory but this is the reality. [/mode]
  13. Oh, this doesn't happens anymore in Notepad2! Hum, what is XVI32 doing in my taskbar ? Also, And this never happens in Notepad++ which can also be used to restore your text. PS: notepad2 doesn't use the same API than windows's notepad. That was a Big mistake.
  14. Try hitting F5 while in my computer. Do you get the icon to remove your hardware in the systray ?
  15. .Net Framework and Java ? Any hotfix backup folder (hidden files, NTFS compressed if available so they display in blue)

    language settings

Of course. Mine is empty because I reinstalled two days ago. (and then, I came on the board and discovered nlite1.0 final )
  17. --- injustice? 5 ***** for all the others who rated it! Probably because nLite is lacking some descriptions, especially in the Tweaks section. @Delprat, kcheeeuu, kcheeeuuu, je suis ton père, kchheeuuuu
  18. well then u should write one ........ May the force be with you if you want to review nlite really deeply.
  19. And files get deleted ? I think you should make a clean install of Litestep.
  20. Right-click on "My computer", click on Properties. Then the servicepack version is written. If it is SP1, download and install this update : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...C0-1A52A6F005E4
  21. Not surprising. B) (why can't we make smiley orgy on this board? )
  22. But I can't see a single character. I only see blocks. Remove/impossible to delete was just luck. Maybe a I should play Loto today. bei, I'm curious : were you able to see real chinese caracters in my post ?
  23. You may try this reg file but if CABTOOL needs COM+ it's gonna be harder. :/ makecab_hkcr.reg
  24. DHCP is a technology that ease network installation. It seems this is working. To be sure, I think you can right-click on your network connection and select status (this is in Control Panel -> "Network Connections"). SP means Service Pack. XP SP1 does not handle wireless networks as efficiently as XP SP2 (it lacks WPA2 among others). But an update is available if you need it. (SP0 is XP without any service pack) Have you tried your PCMCIA card with another computer ?
  25. How do you make litestep your default shell ? Do you do it yourself with the registry or do you use a tool ?
