  1. Maybe because they used a non-threaded core! http://rarewares.org/mp3.html
  2. I have a Turion64 X2 here. lame.exe uses from 95 to 100% of my two cores and encodes mp3 at a speed of 24/25x. That's what I call a truely multi-threaded app.
  3. @tordenflesk, afaik vlite is not able to extract wim files on its own, it relies on a minifilter. And that's the way the minifilter works. Try again, right-click, properties, select a group you're a member of and try to tick/untick the full control box. If you can't, this means you do not own the folder. Try again with directly with system32.
  4. Try to do that for the subfolders (Program Files, Windows, Users...) instead of /temp directly. And do you get access denied only when you try to delete or also when you try to change the permissions ?
  5. I just google for something and clicked on an msfn result. And my pages started to appear as outline and I had to change it manually (the setting got saved). That may be the reason why many people had the same problem at the same time. Maybe that there could be a different layout for search engine.
  6. @jaws75, have you posted this on DP's forum ?
  7. @tordenflesk, which version of windows are you running ? If you're running XP Home, see : http://www.forums.cory.lievers.ca/viewtopic.php?t=21 Booting from a bootcd or even from Vista should do the trick. Btw, silly question : your partition is NTFS, right ?
  8. It's hard to believe November is already over! Anyway, here's the topic for December. Not sure my mother's gonna love that though.
  9. Welcome. And no need to justify you.
  10. That's a 'bug'. I'll explain it a bit more in a few minutes. OK. I had that problem, mainly when vlite was using a temp folder on a hard drive that did not have enough free space (<4GB). This is not caused by an app that would be using the temp folder. The problem is caused by the extraction procedure that creates a sort of new user and this user is the only allowed to remove that temp folder. If the extraction could not complete, then you get this folder. How to remove it: You'll need to edit NTFS rights for that and this is not present in XP Home (though it can be easily added). You may want to disable your antivirus to speed up the process (>20000 files) and you should really close everything else that is running. Browse to your temp folder, right-click on it, click on Properties and then go to the Security tab. Click on the Advanced Properties button (it's the last one). Go to the Owner tab and double-click on any group you're a member of (if you don't know, go for Administrators). Tick the box "Replace..... and sub-...". Click on OK. This should take some time. Close the Properties window. Reopen it, click on the Advanced Properties button, stay on the first tab. Remove each entry (there's a "delete" button), untick the first box, tick the other one. Now click on "Add", type Administrators, press enter, tick the first box in the window you get (first row, first column). OK, OK. Again, this will take some time. Now you can remove it.
  11. Why Wiiiiii btw ?
  12. That's a weird tweak : it makes sense but I am under the impression this can't be the tweak in MS's TweakUI. But from MS: Which is exactly what you're saying.
  13. Back home. My theme is Codename Opus. http://www.web9design.com/Portfolio/codename-opus http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/9240396/ (can't check the page : DA seems down ATM)
  14. As far as I've understood, you've put the hotfixes you downloaded in a subfolder of your source folder. Don't do that, use another folder.
  15. Typsoft FTP server. http://www.typsoft.com Simple and powerful.
  16. Wooo, new forum. Nice.
  17. No, no windowblinds ever. One in the list there. I'm not at home so I'm don't really know. I'll try to give a precise answer in a few hours. And my clock is in 18:40 style because I'm using a french edition of windows. There must be a reg thing but I really have no idea what it could be.
  18. Wooooops. Sorry. I swear I thought it was a post from TAiN.

    TCPIP patch

LZX:21 is fastest to expand than MSZIP.
  20. I'd say both what Kiki and TAiN advised.
  21. Take the cheaper. As far as I've understood, you don't need this box. So don't spend much money on it. And a personal server does not need those extra 400MHz which btw is very little.
  22. Exactly and to be more precise (I looked for my original post on another forum), it takes 10 seconds after selecting the OS you want (multi-boot : XP/XP) to the moment the screen seems to shut down (it is just before you get a 32-bit color screen). And with normal GUI, it maybe takes +.5seconds but certainly not more.
  23. ^200000000 I benchmarked boot times with and without GUI, at least 3 times each on a clean vmware install with VMWare Tools of course. There was absolutely no difference : not a single second, not half a second and not even a quarter of a second.
  24. The other one is not wallpaper-sized. But visit DA, http://browse.deviantart.com/photography/people/pinup/ http://browse.deviantart.com/customization...lpaper/females/ http://browse.deviantart.com/customization...per/widescreen/ (that's were I found the quakecon wallpaper) (this one is 1024x768 : http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/43677116/ )
  25. Perverse. I don't have much pictures of this kind on my HD (let's count : this one, and another one, that makes 2 ) Anyway, another pic: no incredible thing (yet) Just a quiet desktop with a quiet XP and a transparent music player.
