  1. Just replace your outdated-looking IrfanView by XnView ! (google it, it's on the top) ++
  2. not knowing hives by heart makes difficult to see what are those "numerous entries". (note: ignore hiveusd.inf) global advice : hive*.inf makes good honey : remove those entries either after setup either via a custom hive (search for hivefix.inf on the board, you'll get a fresh thread). added value of the custom hive method for removing reg entries is that it still works on upgrades or repair-installs (and it avoids you headhaches caused by the unicode format...) ++
  3. "...facts & frictions" ?... uh ? maybe that "9L" is a vaporware in fact ? i know what is a 4L, but Wikipédia says D&D is only at version 3.5. who is trustable ? /frictions about facts, i highly doubt that "brand new specially optimized directX" can run dx9 games faster/better on the same hardware than a "normal" dx9 under XP... some benchmarks (with *old* hardware) will be required to make this a decent argument (but it may require a move @ nvidia/ati for updated drivers supporting old board ? i don't know) anyway, people (like me) needing a new machine for Vista may prefer to buy something like, um, an XBox, or a PS ? (at least, PS makes no noise) +++
  4. add this at the end of your winnt.sif: [components] pinball=off hearts=off spider=off solitaire=off misweeper=off zonegames=off if you really want the hard way, look inside the "removal addons" there : http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1769 once you understood the structure, they're self-explanatory important : do not remove the minesweeper, or you'll become unable to fight spywares, viruses, rootkits and others malwares ++
  5. Hehehe, I remember running into the same dilemma, ended up plugging both power cables. That HDD lasted less than 5 minutes my friend did that.... it worked fine for prolly about 6 months when i noticed it and yelled at him about it. then showed him the warning sticker right above the power connectors. still works fine tho. seems like the question is not "can i connect both power cables", but "can i connect both power cables from two different power lines" 'coz when cables are from the same power line, pluggin' in both will only decrease the resistance (which is already very low in a conductor) am i true or did i created a new revolutionary electrical theory ? ++
  6. AFAICT, all windows keyboards & languagues are driven by INTL.INF (post-setup, setup also uses txtsetup.sif) get this file from your original i386 folder, and copy it to windows\inf then, you will see again all languages if you did removed manually the keybs and you did not used a tool like nLite (that is, if actually you don't have the "language bar" and "text services" installed, this will not work because ther's also a bunch of registry data that need to be present -- a thing nLites removes) is this idea sounding good to your ears ? ++
  7. Are you meaning they did loose 2003 code ? Or that they just sleep since 2003 relelase ? About the Inquirer's article, that's funny... ok, having a "sort of" dx10 on XP can make dx10 games run on XP, but what about hardware ? AFAIK, dx10 include software support for some new hardware-based effects. ++
  8. ODC, the answer is so close to your eyes that you don't see it... you may want to give a try to an alternate explorer instead ! ++
  9. i'm 128th voter... and there's only 22 posts... about the name... my two cents : Windows Vista => Winsta revert the W and you get ... MinstaOS (for "minimal vista OS") okay, my lack of imagination and me are going elsewhere, no need to open the door for me ++ edit: just realized... maybe 64th voter instead ? seems like i got confused between "voters" and "votes"...
  10. You should listen to some good punk music, like NOFX ++
  11. I were believing that download.microsoft.com was a server owned by Microsoft, and that "Windows Genuine Advantage" was a program restricting usage of some files from this server to users running genuine Microsoft Windows Operating Systems. I have been wrong since April 22nd, 2003, about 2 years and half ! http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en note : important memory requirement for such a tool, slowdowns on old machines when converting a wallpaper to .bmp and it may lack some options founds on other wallpaper changing toys (ex: special wall for specific dates) ++
  12. ]Bonkers[, your cmd has a hidden... "feature", that will make it fail if %computername% is empty (Tweaks will not get installed). And you can make it shorter and more flexible : cmdow @ /HID @ECHO OFF net user Philip /add net localgroup Administrators Philip /add net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited for %%i in (setup tweaks) do ( rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 .\%%i.inf for %%n in (Desktop Notebook) do if /i "%computername%"=="%%n" rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection %%nInstall 128 .\%%i.inf ) EXIT if you want to add another INF file, just add its name in the (setup tweaks) parenthesis (case insensitive) if you want to add another profile, add its name in the (Desktop Notebook) parenthesis : this one is case sensitive about the INF section name, not about %computername% ++
  13. this is the preview from it! http://bleddyn.co.uk/forums/msfn/pink.jpg This one looks great !... for fully seeing how superb is this pink, just display the "shutdown" or "logoff" dialogs some seconds "orb" is an idea as bad as writting "start" on the system menu (can you imagine Microsoft doing that ?!?) If one cares (Pgase ?), i'd prefer no "button" (nor "orb", nor "star", nor "..."), only a white or bright-grey (or colored grey) flag becoming pastel colored when hoovered, and full-colored + "beveled" when clicked (or something like) And black. very black. only black. (well, maybe a zest of orange, but it may then look like LE) ++
  14. i just saw that : To summarize, don’t attach any importance to the true. Just think what you want to have what you want. Cool !!! (j/k of course) Thanks Atomizer for all those links. Hope one day we can learn what really happened and try to prevent it in the future. ps: I edulcorate my post in response to atomizer. You summarized BAD, and even if you were j/k, you're SAD (like Death). Who are you to assume i'm this sort of guy ? do you know me? something about me? about my life? about my grandma's mother maybe? (please don't answer, that's only some sort of introducing rhetoric effect ) The thruth is important. But this importance is of very little importance (sic) in front of the possibilities to use the thruth in a so wide variety of ways. As a consequence, looking for the thruth (moreover when it seems to be hidden at first) to reveal it to anybody, or just to explain it to poorly-minded people is a waste of time and can be very harmful (don't forget, you're unable to say all the truth unless you're God) You're hoping to prevent such events ? Thus forget about the truth on 9/11, because you don't need to know it to prevent such events. That's my opinion, because acting in such way may also prevent other events you didn't took care of at first, because it's targeting not the consequences of "errors" (9/11), but the roots that created the possibility of such "errors" (to be determinded soon, hold on a moment please). I hope you understand now better (don't think i care about ) ++
  15. Unless i misunderstood the nLite patches, you completely misunderstood : AFAIK, nLite work in a very binary scheme : "doing <something> vs. not doing <something>" On patches page, the default options are "not doing" (like everywhere else) Thus, if one change the SFC option (or any other), it will make the patch. Nothing confusioning, really On the other hand, what is unclear is not what these options does (reading some manuals or searching on the forums is harmless), but what these options doesn't do. I mean, nLite offers the option to "make the patch" OR "not make the patch" ; but your suggested clarifications doesn't reads the same : for SFC, if you choose "enable", it will just keep your files ; it will not unpatch them if they were patched before. As a consequences, this page (patches) should no longer let user choose between enable/disable, nor yes/no, nor anything like. It should be one checkbox in front of each possible patch, checking it will obviously mean "patch the file", and unchecking it means not "unpatch" but "leave as is" (and this should be said in top of the page). Example : that's all, but i may be wrong on what nLite really does. SFC patch is still unclear to me (i mean i don't patch it, instead i run "SFC /CACHESIZE=0" during and after install and i have no dllcache, nor any WFP popup message because i have a copy of i386 on hard drive ; so i still don't understand what nLite can do for me on this...) ++
  16. Grab "strings.exe" from sysinternals.com and use it in conjunction with find or findstr to look inside uncabbed files in i386 for a specific string you see on this screen. IIRC, "blue-text-setup" is setupldr.bin But you may mess the whole installer, and is such "critical" setup steps, it may then mess a whole computer. ++
  17. now, i'm scared for days, your pumpkins are too impressive for me ++
  18. wooo ! long posts i will not read. just to say : atomizer, i will not do my own researsh on this topic, and i will not try to prove you anything. my opinion is not far from epic's one (i don't know if he was pejorative, i am not) : you can be true, you can be false, i dont care (except if it make me laugh, but you're far from accessing this goal ). if you're true, you can prove it and expose it on public place ; or fail to do so because "consipirators and associates" did a good work hiding their traces (hey, imagine, they may have set "traps" for people like you trying to take them down ? such a "conspiracy" would have required lots of anticipation ! and finding such "evidences" seems to prove there were no "conspiracy", don't you think ?). if you're false, you're loosing your time. i don't care because TRUE or FALSE is definately NOT IMPORTANT (yes, if i were speaking before, i'm no longer). What IS important is WHAT YOU WANT ? ! -> jail Bush and its "team" ? whooo ! it would be very useless for people who die(d) in the WTC and in Irak ! And for those still alive, it would be even less... -> other thing ? ANY other thing can be achieved without all those "researches", "evidences", ... (and in a MUCH MORE efficient way) Move on, atomizer, you can say for example that disallowing OPEC members to sell their oil in any other devise than dollar is enslaving both them and you in a viciously cyclic dependant relation ; and this would be a constructive/productive subject. But the topic you choosed, "conspiracy theory" (as said DL), is making cycles inside itself... you feed it, another feeds it, "consipirators" feeds it, and no one ever eat ! You're owned by these cycles... look over ! ++
  19. i don't know : for any other hardware, there's HWIDs in the .infs, but monitors are installed in a "strange" way. What about changing this : [SysCfgClasses] Monitor, %Unknown.DeviceDesc%,MONITOR,4,%MonitorClassName% ; Default to "Unknown Monitor" replacing %Unknown.DeviceDesc% by %L1915S% ? and maybe moving the [LG] section' content to [Generic] ? ++ ps: seems like there's "monitor-drivers-skilled-people" in this topic : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=82735 see post #21 by MGDx and #23 by erpdude8 (but nothing about unattended)
  20. There's PCHealth files installed via SYSOC.inf, during GUI setup : maybe you are overwriting files before windows re-overwrites them ??? (look inside sysoc.inf, you'll find a PCHealth line with another inf file name, look inside it and you'll find the files copied with their name in I386 and their name on hard drive if renamed : if my supposition is true, you can rename your files if needed, then makecab and place them in I386) ++
  21. The NTFS log is $LogFile, like $Mft it's a metafile not stored in any folder (but represented as being in the root) : http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs-system-files.htm System Volume Information is also used by EFS : http://www.ntfs.com/internals-encrypted-files.htm ...and the 8th day, God created Google... ++
  22. Very interesting posts, but i think you're messing and mixing things not directly related, like the war in Irak and 9/11. I explain : if, like you seem to be supposing (or at least suggesting), no terrorist attack was made on 9/11 and if "governement conspirators" were aware of "something hidden", then you just can't link that to the war. I think you may start from that war, its motivations, its objectives and the people-who-decide (governement ? industrials ?... ?) involved in to retrace back the History. If you take a look to manuals, you'll see that World War 1 (1914-18) began few time after Austrian's Archiduc was killed by a "terrorist" (using nowadays vocabulary). It just was an unimportant event for entire Europa (that is, not justifying millions death), but it's still the trigger historians keep. Now, five years after, the most important things are : - respect people who died in WTC and their families - respect and help people in Irak : most of them are civilians like we, they have nothing to do with this war, and they suffer (or die) from some willing more power ("personal" power or "energetical", that's not the question) In short : stop thinking "FACTS", start thinking "PEOPLE". « More to say ? Yes, War Sucks. » (cf. Starship Troopers) ++
  23. "everything to be right" ??? No, that's "everything gonna be alright" (but you're not the first to make this mistake) i saw... hard to follow you ! I've looked in my files, and all ICM files seems to end in ,,,3,3, except sRGB.icm which ends in ,,,34,0, and is always copied, so it seems correct so far. I think you'll need to remove the last part : ,%lgl1915s%, and the strings section, or it will rename lgl1915s.icm to "LG L1915S Color Space Profile" (with no extension !!!) during setup (take a look to the WAV files, like XPStart.wav = <numbers and comas>,%XPStart%). Your original INF file refers to lgl1915s.icm, and nothing else. Forget about "the root ? wtf ? 8/", i did misunderstood. ++
  24. My wallpaper this month... this week... or maybe just until tomorrow : link ++
  25. I were about to say "you didn't searched", but the "answer" contains no easy-to-find keyword : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...PreferencesMask Hope the next one to have this bug will hit this topic and get redirected ++
