  1. Heh! that must have sucked. When i installed it on my network, on my own server (primary domain controller) i was little bit nervous i've to say but it went all fine and runs perfectly.
  2. At work it runs pretty smoothly as well as at home. I'll wait to get me a licence before transferring my data to it, i've like at least 10 gigs of work who is way too much important, even saved on Cds...
  3. That means you can add one if you want, but it's not supposed to be there
  4. Hello Jason, and welcome. A few questions : what AV and firewall are you trying to install ?
  5. My winroute pro is fully stealthed and anyway only a few ports are really 'open'
  6. Heh sorry for posting late ... our router at work had its memory erased by a violent power shortage. I like features of SavCE because it saves me a lot of time. I am dealing with our software supplier to get a mail scanner like you say, SAV for Gateways. Since we have SAVCE it's much easier to handle viruses and deployment of updates, and all this stuff that i don't want to spend hours at office ;-) Well, besides that, i kind of like Russia
  7. I don't think the file protection is a stupid system. It is more safe to do a Safe Boot restart and put the files you think to be OK then to straight disable it. But well, depends what you want to do heh
  8. About power shortage, we had one yesterday in Prague, because too much people were using climatizers (due to high temps) -> our router took a 'shoot' and it's settings memory was cleared. Result : 26 hours offline (time to go back to work and to get some technical ppl from telecom company to get what's the problem and fix it) So : i hate power outages. (but i can like them depends if i'm using a PC at the moment or not)
  9. Yeah i checked that too. It reminds me of some movie, can't put the name on it. Just it was night, and more beautiful.. maybe one of the earlier Terminator series, or Encounters of the 3rd type ... dunno
  10. That's weirdo. It can be anything. Maybe it's aliens .. whee! Why the hell they always go to US first
  11. As system admin it is my job to check what users are doing on my network. My firewall/proxy/router supply me with great logs, who are coupled with e-mail logging and snort/ids database. Ultimately i've also access to all their files in case i need to check if somebody is messing up. I love net-dictature
  12. I'm running winroute pro at work and i'm perfectly able to access https services. It does not require any specific settings as far as i know. Just enable NAT and TCP traffic on port 80.
  13. the blaster worm affects rpcss.exe process... did you check on MS Knowledge base ?
  14. Normally you can disable it by doing on the desktop : Right Click > properties > Desktop > Customize desktop once there you uncheck the icons you don't want to see and click on Ok until all dialogs are closed.
  15. try to get the removal tool at symantec.com on an uninfected computer, drag it home on a floppy, write protect it (just to be paranoid (or maybe not, the fix utility will have to write a log file on it)), then run the fix. It should be deleting all the things. In case of problems restart your PC in failsafe mode and redo what's written above. Hope it will help ---> now it's time to bed. Next checking of this post : tomorrow 8:40 GMT+1
  16. greetings, welcome onboard!
  17. I usually get this message when changing harddisk controller (i.e. motherboard) or updating/changing harddisk settings and related things. You can have a check on MS Knowledge base page : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;287043 or http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;316401 You might have to reinstall windows to fix this. It's something frequent, so don't worry too much Good luck! Report if you get any other things. Thanks.
  18. How funny, my home Pc was attacked but i was able to fix it in like five seconds ;-)
  19. lol i'm just you know, having fun in my work. Since i've set up snort with ACID it's much more funny
  20. heh.. yep that sucks. For the average user who is happy with Outlook Express that's going to be a problem. I don't care as long as i'm not concerned. *grins wickedly*
  21. try to download utilities and diagnostic floppy image on the site of your harddrive manufacturer ... though, i warn you : two days ago i've had one of our harddisk serviced. Running several tests proved nothing, but after a week it started it all again. In case, run several continuous test and keep your system online for some time.
  22. Yes, i see your point. I've effectively had an hotmail account that i no longer use because of inconvenients of webmail. all that counts is that i can access my normal pop mail by webmail interface, or my desktop @work with Remote Desktop or Terminal Services
  23. I've to agree with my russian friend, that Norton Corporate is lacking some skills.
